    Hi from Canada, Judy!
    Just before you mentioned any names of guest stars you wish you'd reached out to, the first name that popped in my head was ... Beulah Bondi. What a riveting performance she had in "The Pony Cart," for which she won an Emmy.
    Question for a future Ask Judy:
    It might need more than a single episode. Choose a favorite episode for each Walton, one for each regular on the show, and a Top 5 or 10 for guest appearances.

    Dinner scenes are more important than we may realize .
    I read the producers of Titanic (1997) for their own curiosity did a survey of fans who had just seen the movie - what scene was their most favorite .
    Examples were like - the ship breaking apart or , "Jack - I'm flying" scene , Or the dreamy reunion ending .
    After spending 100s of millions on special effects to their complete surprise the #1 scene was actually the dinner scene .

    Hi Judy, you know, in referencing what you would say to your younger self, I thought a lot about that question for my younger self. I really like what Billy Joel once said on an interview when he stated that (not quoting) 'it's not the mistakes you make that matters. It's how you learn from them and grow as a person'. So, for me, I like that answer because it's so easy to fall into the trap of regret.
    I do have one quick question.
    1) With all those revisions, how much pressure does it add to you memorizing lines when changes are made.
    2) I can imagine a situation where you memorize a bunch of lines and then they get cut in a revision. Did that ever happen to you and did it frustrate you?
    Thanks again! I always appreciate your attention to us in responding to questions and it means a great deal to me.
    P.S. In talking music and theory you mentioned you're just starting to learn piano, Judy, if it helps, it took me a year to get comfortable with the music theory in guitar as in learning chord progressions, different chord types (major, minor, diminished, the various 7th chords, various scales and modes and so on). So, trust me. As you progress in learning an instrument, it will make a lot of sense - with a lot of effort and time put into it. No other way around it!
    Cheers.

      @judynorton2598  4 месяца назад +1

      Thanks for the music pep talk :)
      Definitely times when things you learned were cut or changed before you filmed it. I generally didn’t have a lot of trouble learning lines, so not much of an issue for me - but some did need to work harder and longer at it, so I imagine for them it was tougher.

    I enjoy these reruns while im having lunch and just saw "The Minstrel". I'm wondering if you know how they did the scene with 'Grandpa' driving 'JohnBoy' to the hospital?
    They have a conversation while driving and it looks so real! We know from you that Will didn't drive, how did they make the scene look so real? There even seems to be a camera shadow from right outside that driver's side window that bounces long with them!
    It really shows that you love what you do and the "attitude of gratitude" that you have for your past experiences shines through in these video posts! Thank you!

    I agree that you needed to have a dedicated press agent early on. One thing I've observed is the fact that you were noticeably absent from shows like The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. As a matter of fact, I don't remember seeing very many of The Walton children on any talk shows. It's possible that Richard Thomas was on Carson, but I really can't remember. And the same goes for other child stars like "The Brady Bunch" kids, who also seemed to be absent from the talk show circuit. Maybe each television program should have a dedicated press agent to handle the careers & appearances of child cast members.

    • @judynorton2598

      The show and network’s priority is to get publicity for the show so more viewers watch. It isn’t a priority to help specific individual cast members get on talk shows. Talk shows will often have their “wish list” about who from a show they want to have on.

    Just a quick question. How much direction was involved with getting the characters "proper" accent. I was raised close to the Appalachian mountains, a "flat lander", if you will. We have two types of accents. The softer "moonlight and magnolia" accents, then the twangy, and more nasal southern accents. The Walton family had the softer accent, but the "back woodsers", the more twangy one.

    In Master Shots of Parties where the characters are supposed to be milling about and mingling, does the actor, director, cinematographer, or writer determine how any particular actor is supposed to move through a scene? Like in Erin's Graduation party like you just showed, how was it determined that you would first be talking to Curt then move to chat with Erin? Or Michael moving from Mrs. Brimmer to another group? How did the choreography work in those scenes to make them feel just like a natural mingling at a party?

    • @judynorton2598
      @judynorton2598  4 месяца назад

      It will be staged by the director and might be verbally cued by someone if it isn’t dialogue driven. eg: if Olivia moved after she said a particular line, then the camera knows to move with her after that line. If you aren’t hearing dialogue, then it would likely be cued when the director was ready for the camera to make the move, so the cue would be for Olivia and the camera to move.

    Hi Judy, you were recently asking for questions to ask a Hammner family member. I recently watched the Founders Day episode & during "Jasons" piano piece & Earl Hammner's narrative over it, they panned some old black & white photos. Wondering if they were actual Hammner family ancestors or stock photos?

    I think when you are young you don’t think about topics you could talk about with older people. It is only when you get older that you wished you had asked those questions. There is so much I wished that I had asked my grandmother or my parents and now they have all passed on. I also didn’t have the technology back then that I have now.

    Hi Judy, I really enjoy your videos. I'm curious about the commentary that Earl shared at the end of each show sort of summarizing what happened to a character in that episode. How real life were those and why were they shared? Especially when the characters or situations were obviously fictional? Like telling us that Boone Walton died crossing the highway. That's Judy! Love you!!!

      It was a part of the show that was established from the beginning as the show was told from John Boy’s perspective looking back on his life. Since all the stories weren’t completely true, what was said in an earlier episode might be forgotten several seasons later and so earlier end narration might be contradicted. Keep in mind most shows couldn’t be binge watched in reruns when this show was originally being filmed :)

    Hi Judy...Thanks for this informative ASK JUDY segment. I was wondering if you have ever had a situation where a cast member forgot to update his/her script with the newest revisions? When filming began that cast member may be saying lines that have since been rewritten. Also, how easy or difficult would it be to learn those new revisions? I guess it probably depended on how many lines were changed?

    • @judynorton2598
      @judynorton2598  4 месяца назад +1

      The script supervisor would catch that immediately when the rehearsal started - so the actor could read from the revisions as the rehearsal was done, then commit to memory before the camera rolled. Learning lines fast was part of the job.

    Hi Judy, I do enjoy the Ask Judy segments. In this segment you talked about crowd scenes and the various camera shots, etc…. This made me think about a question regarding the “Extras” in the background. When you see them talking, what are they talking about? I’m sure it’s not scripted, but are they actually conversing, or is it more just mouthing words? Thanks again for your channel.

And if you had a magic wand which cast member (family or not) would've been your second choice to play? I know that some actors carry a good luck charm or believe in superstitions while filming. Any of the cast carry a rabbits foot or consulted with an astrology chart, etc.? Thanks ❤ your segments. It's like sitting in on a college class.

(This was the episode where the family picked apples and decided the split the money equally, and everyone gave Mary Ellen extra so she could take a trip to see things in the city.) Wondered why they would show the bare table, as it looked kinda like they just put some boards down. It was a long table to fit everyone. Was it an old table or just some boards?

    Hi Judy, I was wondering, is the revision color sequence, is that the "universal" sequence for all acting or does it depend on each individual show, movie, play, etc.

    • @judynorton2598
      @judynorton2598  4 месяца назад

      It’s the universal sequence for film and TV. Not sure how it works with new plays during rehearsal. On shows I’ve worked on, usually we just write the changes in our own script. but, if a serious rewrite new pages might be given out.

    My head is spinning with all the different shots it took to make a scene!! None of it looks contrived at all! Very interesting thinking that the scripts went through rewrites before YOU even got them and then there were still more during the filming week...so if you had everything memorized, you might have to memorize something different on any given day?! Actors work harder for their jobs than people might think. Some of your advice is applicable to anybody at any age...not to get too caught up in things...I'm STILL working on that.🥰 But I suspect you are too hard on your younger self! And just think, if you had done anything differently, you wouldn't be where you are today and touching the lives of so many people.🥰 (The Butterfly Effect - do one thing differently and it changes things from that moment on!)

    • @judynorton2598
      @judynorton2598  4 месяца назад

      Thank you for your kind words. As for rewrites - because tv filming is “short term” memory work as opposed to doing a play where you need to learn and retain it for the run of the play - it changes how far in advance I learn lines. With the series, I typically learned my lines the night before the day the scene would be filmed. That way, most likely any rewrites had already been issued - but not always :). If I didn’t have many lines the next day, I might learn them before each scene was to be shot. Pretty easy to learn one or two lines at a time :)

    • @tracylamarca575
      @tracylamarca575 4 месяца назад

      @@judynorton2598 🥰Ahhhh - I see! I didn't think of that - once the scene was shot, you wouldn't have to remember those lines again! And yes, no sense "cluttering" your mind if it was just several lines to learn. It reminds me of how I studied for exams in school - I could memorize whole pages of my notebooks for a couple of nights before a test and recall them perfectly, but, of course, didn't keep it all in my head once the test was over!😍 Thanks for the info!

    I bet you could get some good money for any of the actual scripts from the show (not that you would want to). Robert Blake was pushing some of his right here on his youtube channel before he passed away. I guess he was hurting for money after all what he went through.

      Some years ago, after moving that trunk full of scripts yet again and having no place to store it, and thinking “what am I ever going to do with these?” - I recycled them all. I always felt they weren’t mine to sell as they were owned by the company. We have signed and auctioned off scripts for charity. Wish I still had more of them as they would be useful for some of these segments. :).
