My Dad just passed me down one of his humidors and a bunch of his cigars to get me started. I have to say that your videos have given me a great deal of respect and intrigue toward the history and enjoyment of cigars, and it makes me want to become a part of the culture. Thanks for the great videos and keep up the good work.
Dr. Joe.. where are you??? Hope all is well.. you have so much great content to offer the cigar aficionado.. we miss you terribly. Wishing you the best.
Dear Joe, My friend first of all I must admit that you are exactly doing what I re-started a few months ago. I am so glad to see there are like minded cigar lovers in the world. Today I once again had a few confirmations on what I have been trying to figure out. You once more helped me out a great deal to make some things a bit easier. Thank you for this great series and keep it up brother. Keep on Smokin' Arno
Good stuff Joe. I have a good friend of mine that works in Boveda's home office in Minnesota. I told him they should be paying you royalties! I agree 100%, Boveda has a great product and takes the worry away from managing my humidors. I passed your video along to him. Always looking forward to the next installment.
Like the willingness to try new cigars. Easy to be a snob and not try certain cigars but a lot of the fun is trying new and different cigars. If anything it makes you really appreciate the good ones when you have them (i.e. Ramon Allones Specially Selected)!
Mr. A(j)ones still here ;D very impressive collection. Personally I use Adorini Brand (humidors) i think it is German, never failed me. PS. I like the close shots from different camera. You will notice in TV when the switch cameras spokesman always move head to look at the lens of the camera taking it. My understanding you have two cameras recording simultaneously so is is not as easy but you might try. Good Job!
Great in-depth video on cigar aging, humidor setup, and Cuban/Cigar history. Loved the Cohiba/Trinidad video since I am a sucker for conspiracy. LOL But as a noobie to cuban cigars, you have definitely been my go to guy and cigartube-afiicionado. I was skeptical about ordering cubans online but after your videos, I am about to order my first box of cubans from your favorite site. What would you recommend as a first time buyer? I narrowed it down to either Bolivar Royal Coronas, Partagas Serie D No.4, or the Ramon Allones Specially Selected. Cohiba Maduro 5 would have been part of the list, but it's out of my budget for the 25 cigar box. I'll probably try the 10 cigar box after my first order goes through successfully. Thanks and I look forward to your next videos~
Hey Doc.. First I want to say your videos are straight to the point and informative. My questions are, I have a glass top humidor and I followed your seasoning tips and it has been 6 days and my humidor is at 74%. Do you think I have a defective humidor or is it OK to put my cigars in now? Does the temperature outside of the humidor affect the humidity inside of it?
Very Very cool Joe. That second humidor really intrigues me, I think I'm gonna buy a little more Padron and Feente and just forget about them for a few years. Also, I think I'll put my Michael Dixon back into use and use my 2 wineadors solely for boxes. Great stuff. Excited for the Immensos review!
Plume happens in the cellophane. What doesn't happen is cross aromatization, which, depending on your taste or particular organization within your box is either a desirable thing, or something you want to happen.
Knocked it out of the park again Joe. With my Habanos I like to keep them with the wax paper that came in their boxes when moving to my humidor as I've found sometimes the extra cedar flavor isn't as desirable. Though it doesnt look as pretty obviously.
hey joe great video and ultra informative series i love what you are doing and cant wait to see how the show improves in the future (if thats possible) keep the videos coming, and more importantly keep smoking!!!
Great video. I have a question tho. I'm getting a 300 count humidor, should be here in a few days. I saw you only used 2 sponges. Do I use more than 2? Do I have to line the bottom of the new humidor from wall to wall with sponges? Thanks Dr Joe.
Hey Joe! Another great segment! What are your thoughts on Heartfelt beads, HCM beads, and/or kitty litter? The only negative thoughts I've had about using beads is that they do take up a fair amount of room in the humidor.
Great video, very informative. I really like your cube humidor. I am curious as to where you get your Cuban cigars. I hope they'll be available soon for import. Keep up the great work.
Joe, I saw you had cigars in glass and aluminum tubes in your humidor. I take the tops off the tubes and place the cigars in the humidor, still in the tube so they can air and collect humidity as needed. Does that make sense or am I making a mistake? Cellephane allows cigars to breath, but I figured aluminum and glass tubing won't.
@thedrJoeshow- great video! I have a question- I have a the same Daniel Marshall box- mine has wood box mounted on the lid for the foam box humidifer and is their a way to remove these without damaging the box?
You have some beautiful humidors and cigars TheDrJoeShow! I'm looking forward to the questions video; I'm sure someone will ask a question that I never even thought of before! Did you happen to see my post on your discussion board? Take care brother!
Awesome video as usual. One question about the bags, how do you know when it's time to replace them? Do they just quite working or is there some kind of visual notice so you can tell by looking at them that they are done?
chris wood They get hard, brittle, and crunchy inside the bag. They can also be rejuvenated if you seal them up in an airtight container with distilled water. It just takes time. I use 65% Heartfelt humidity beads in my humidors and wineador, but I use 49% Boveda bags in my guitar cases. I keep two sets so while one set is inside the guitar cases the other set is sitting in a glasslock container with distilled water on a sponge. When the set in the case gets dry, I just swap them around. I have found that I can recharge them numerous times and I've been using the same 12 Bovedas for about two years now using this method. I would suppose the same method could work for Boveda bags in humidors.
when he said "I'm gonna show you the other humidors for your entertainment" I was like "fucking conceded" but that was pretty entertaining haha jk I love this show they should put you on pbs, and jus beep out the coursing
I noticed you keep your tubos with the caps on them. There is a lot of conflicting schools of thought on storing tubos. What's your opinion? Do you loosen your caps a little or store them as they came from the factory. Thank you for all your hard work! Keep smoking joe!
David Adams Cigars can be stored in tubos just fine for long periods of time, but they will age differently. There are several reasons for this, one being that they're isolated from any other cigars which prevents any transfer of oils. Other reasons have to do with the chemical components released that affect the aging process. In the tube, the cigar is in its own little environment. So in terms of aging, they will turn out differently. Depending on the cigar and the time in question and other various factors, the cigar may turn out great - or not. Loosening the cap opens the cigar to the environment that all of the other cigars are in, so during the aging process, their is a lot more "fuel" to work with. However, the cigar is still in the tube, so there will be no migration of oils from one cigar to another which is a big part of the aging process as well. In the end, it's up to individual preference. Some people like the way cigars age in individual tubes. I've had many that were quite good. But generally, if I had a box of say Bolivar Tubos No.1 or 2 and my intent was to age them, I would take them out of the tubes altogether, but that's just me. In the end, it has more to do with aging than anything else. Loosening a cap on a tubo for reasons related to the cigar getting humidity or drying out is nonsense. Sealed tubos in a proper humidor will not dry out. So "loosening the cap," is unnecessary - its either in the tube or completely out of the tube depending on how you want to age the cigars. Thanks for the great comment, keep watching and keep on Smokin'!
Awesome collections how in the world can you afford those Daniel Marshalls humidors and Opux X, Padron Family Reserve, Cuban cigars, etc. They are all worth on most of your humidors at least $3500-$5000. I even heard you said Behike...dude I am drooling just to smoke them.
great video I am looking for A1quility for a good price don't want to pay more for name brand but will pay for quality no glass do you have any recommendations
preziouzpnai Absolutely. That's something coming up soon. I've actually started writing that one out so it should be relatively soon. Definitely happening at some point. Thanks and Keep on Smokin'!
+emil osorno The cigar oasis runs based on what you set the target RH to. Unless you can cause the unit to run constantly or set the target RH to at least 85%, then no. A humidor needs to be seasoned at a significantly higher RH than what the target RH will be once the cigars are inside. Whatever you get the humidor up to, once the cigars are added and the humidity source is lowered to between 65% - 70%, the RH will drop, usually by around 10% - 15%. So you must get the RH during seasoning to at least 80%. 85% is even better. There are many ways to season a humidor. What I show in this video is the easiest, cheapest and most hassle free way to go about it. This method is absolutely guaranteed to work. It's time tested. I've seasoned hundreds if not thousands of boxes by a dozen manufacturers using this method. The only time it fails is when there is something wrong with the box - provided everything was done as shown - but that's the thing. I would think it to be very hard to screw up taking a couple of sponges, loading them with distilled water and locking them in the humidor. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comments! Keep on Smokin'!
Lord Garth Someone thumbs-downed you, probably someone with some moldy collection. FOH has done one hell of a research study folks. I know y’all don’t want to admit it, but “plume” isn’t real. It’s really sad to see all of these beautiful Padrons and Davidoffs and rare cigars sleeping right next to those moldy beast. I’ll have a Ramon Allones tonight in honor of those fallen soldiers.
Ohmie oh boy...plume is in fact real. Mold is literally a growing fungus, plume is simply oils and sugars crystallizing on the top layer of the cigar. It’s actually a very simple concept....and yes I read the FOH “study” where they took 10 clearly mold riddled cigars and tested them with no actual study.
2020 and still wishing Dr. Joe would come back.
Same..Where is he? HE was my cigar sifu years ago. The real deal!
Or just an update. If he's out of the cigar world, that's okay, I'd just would love to know what's going on in his world.

Was just watching your series on the cuban embargo I guess the bottom line for me is, does cuban tobacco make a better cigar?
Great video. I have a question tho. I'm getting a 300 count humidor, should be here in a few days. I saw you only used 2 sponges. Do I use more than 2? Do I have to line the bottom of the new humidor from wall to wall with sponges? Thanks Dr Joe.

Thanks joe, that answered my questions perfectly. If you ever find yourself in Indy look me up buddy. You're the man!
+David Adams I live in Mooresville & work at a B&M in Brownsburg, maybe we could get together for a smoke sometime?

Great video.. Good job..
what happened to the wineador?
what are your temperatures in the desktop humidors?
Thanks for the 411, subscribed...also Go Pats!
the static humidors desk gave me too many problems,i solved with two air conditioned cellars Liebherr never had such perfect cigars!
History on Camacho please.
preziouzpnai Absolutely. That's something coming up soon. I've actually started writing that one out so it should be relatively soon. Definitely happening at some point. Thanks and Keep on Smokin'!
if my humidor is reading low (66%) even with a xikar fan, xikar 250 humidifier, and a 72% boveda pack can I attempt to re-season it using your method?
Check your seal and make sure it is good. You also might need to change your humidifier to a different method.
Philadelphia?
can I just season my 100 count humidor with the cigar oasis excel for 4 days? tnx

I never keep the foam. I use the heartfelt beads. Much, much better.
Don't smoke that moldy Davidoff @ 25:57
does anyone know why he talked about 62-65% for ageing but all his humidity is 69%??
It’s always mold.
Lord Garth Someone thumbs-downed you, probably someone with some moldy collection.

The Charred Dog then send them a cigar with plume to counter their argument
Did he just say plume???
Joe, do you get paid by the hour? You are extremely long winded. Please, either stop the rambling or get an editor!
Yawn
Your little overdramatic most of our people will tell you 24 to 48 hours and you're telling people for 5 days😂😂😂😂
