In this video we're taking a closer look at the Ayurvedic super spice Cardamom. Not only is it a culinary spice, but also packs potent medicinal power in its tiny seeds.
Health benefits of cardamom include: Aids digestion. Freshens breath. Balances blood sugar levels. Lowers blood pressure. Helps treat bronchitis. Increases air flow to the lungs. Acts as a stimulant improving circulation. Helps manage diabetes. Helps treat stomach ulcers. Supports weight loss. Improves hair health. May prevent acne. May protect liver health. Reduces inflammation. May prevent cancer. Acts as a stimulant improving circulation. Alleviates gastrointestinal discomfort during pregnancy. Cardamom is used for digestion problems including : - Heartburn - Intestinal spasms - Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) - Intestinal gas - Constipation - Liver and gallbladder complaints - Loss of appetite It is also used for common cold, cough, bronchitis, sore mouth and throat, and tendency toward infection.
We use it with everything, rice tea bread sweet bread, corn bread any pudding milk chai, cake my mom uses for good breath 😊 love it so much ah I think I want to eat now lol 😂
Powdered cardamom should not be stored as volatile oils evaporate. Grind whole pods every time you use them, for good results. For best results, chew 2- 3 whole pods, including skin, after a meal. The skin has fibre and adds to the taste and digestion.
My first taste of cardamon, was at an old-style farming househould with freshly baked bread. I will never forget it 50 years later - and would readily eat up the entire loaf (with/without butter - cinnamon). Totally awesome.
We never administer cough medicine to babies in india. Whenever they catch cold or any ailment in general we give them a potion of carom seeds and cardamom seeds. We call it "suttu" highly potent for babies...
Cardamom is definitely an expectorant! Before i listen any further, i used to word at a spice mill, and i loved grinding cardamom (rare) early in the morning or after lunch cause of the vapors. A whiff of fressh crushed cardomom is just as good as horseradish
Love your videos! I use the seed I grind daily in my tea, along with a host of other spices. I find this and cloves help keep SIBO at bay, and for the taste of course! Good to know there's other benefits to something so tasty! Thx for the video. 🌱
I love indian spices! Heck I love india and gave been a few times and it still to this day my favourite country and so far I've been to a few. I especially love the food and spice and cardamon is my absolute favourite. I love it in coffee but in tea is my favourite in fact I'm just about to go chew on a couple whilst walking the dog . Fantastic video and love the channel keep up the good work!
Great lesson I appreciate this so much. I grew up with the flavors of cardamom and totally love it. Over the years I haven’t used it so this video brings this memory back and I’ll start using it again. Thank you so much.
Thanks for the video! If one at an early age has sampled the taste of most or all of such spices or herbs, it would be easy to understand their characteristics, properties or common constituents. Turpene or turpene oils make one instinctively resort to them when some remedial action is needed. The analysis is so agreeable to those who have found some form of comfort or satisfaction from these gifts of nature. This video projects the spirit of India and the blessings of natures bounty.
It is my personal experience. Some years back i use to eat cardamom a lot in a day. It was like a habit. It really helped me get rid of my allergy which i had of dust, flour etc which use to cause me sneezing a lot.
Thank you, I had a sneeze, allergy response. I enjoy cardamom in my coffee, but didn't have access to cardamom for a few years, due to the corona virus thing and where I live. I lost sneeze when I started drinking my cardamom coffee again, ... But I didn't associate it with using cardamom in my coffee until I read your comment, then it hit me, it's the cardamom. 😊 Thanks again, I'll keep more on hand in case of possible future supply shortages
This is my favourite. I use cardamom in tea and sweet lassi. I use in almost sweet item recipes. Everyone i buy them and grind them into powder so i no need to crush them all the time. Just grind them and keep in a container and use the powder whenever you want.
@@arseniaventura4057 I grind everything and make fine powder. Or you can just buy seeds and make them fine oowder. I like to grind whole cardamom. Smell and flavour so good. Try this....when you have yogurt, just grind yogurt and 2 spoons of sugar, 1/4 spoon cardamom powder in a mixture. At the end put some saffron on top when you serve. Trust me that's my favourite drink lassie, I make it especially in summer. It cools your body and yummy yummy. If you want health and beauty use honey instead of sugar. 🥰
@@Naturelover-cu7qh Thank you!, I am using it for more than a year, just add 3-4 pcs of small cardamon seeds in my coffee and when the pods is soft I just get the seeds and throw the outer layer - and just chew the seeds. Next time I will just grind them. Thank you and Good Day!

Crush them. Then you will get all the good flavour. Use 1 pinch of powder if not crush them and use 2 cardamoms for one cup tea. You will love the flavour. Or you can buy a packet of cardamom and grind them in small mixture, put in a container and you can use a pinch of this powder whenever you want. Time saving. Or you can buy cardamom powder directly. It will be so good if you boil in tea or coffee. In summer if you want to drink lassi, just put some curd, add 3 ice cubes, 2 spoons sugar and 1/4 spoons of cardamom powder and grind them in mixture. On the top add pistachio and saffron. You will love it. Sweet lassi. My favourite. It's good too
Cardamom seeds are sometimes almost brown/grayish and dry. Does that mean they are too old, at least compared to the almost black and shiny ones that has a much stronger flavor?
Elaichi is widely grown in India and Pakistan. But one correction needed in Video. The word “Elaichi” is taken from Urdu language.Urdu is national language of Pakistan and is spoken in many parts of India. Hindi is national language of India which is distorted version of Urdu in fact. Writing scripts of Urdu and Hindi are different but spoken is almost same except the words which were added in Hindi taken from Sanskrit in order to differentiate it from Main language Urdu. Still majority of Films and film songs are in Urdu language because it is understood not only in all subcontinent but also in UAE.
