      Buster...exposed him...he never beat anyone good. The one time he was hurt or had to overcome adversity he was beaten...ie Buster. Mike was a bully who had most of his opponents beat before they stepped in the ring. He was a great athlete no doubt...a fighter ? No. Lewis kod two guys in Rahman and Mccall who he was previously kod by. Do you know how strong mentally you have to be to do that? Tyson never beat an opponent who beat him EVER. Nor did anyone he beat test him in the ring. Need more? He was overrated. ..pleas dont mention Spinx. Once he met up with Lewis and Holy they crushed him.

      rick rich Tyson was getting passed his prime at 23.
      He burned out young. He was good from around 85 ( the start of his pro career) until 89 which is when he was 23. At 23 Tyson was starting to loose his talent. From 89 - 95 Tyson was just a shadow of "Iron Mike Tyson" All he was, was a puncher. A slugger with no head movment.

    According to Evander Holyfield both Tyson and Bowe ducked Lewis. In Evander's words, "Every time they had an opportunity to fight Lewis they choose me instead because they thought I was a lesser opponent." So out of respect he gave Lewis a shot that no one else had the guts to do. In fairness to Tyson, it was more complicated than Bowe's refusal. It was HBO vs Showtime that was causing contractual problems. Mike paid Lewis to step aside so he could fight Evander Holyfield for more $.

    From being a big fan in the mid eighties I've really gone the other way with regards to Tyson. I was never one of these "he could beat anyone in his heyday" people, who seem deluded now, but I really thought he had potential. But to be a great requires far more than speed and a punch. You need discipline, perseverence, mental strength, and you need them over many years. None of the greats, for example, became a drug addict slap bang in the middle of his career, and Tyson may have been into cocaine from his teens. If Tyson himself was to have what seems to be the attitude of many of his apologist fans he'd probably be dead by now, with their "poor Mike" bleatings. Reading a few posts on here it seems many are of that ilk. And where does all this hatred for Lennox Lewis come from? What did he do, apart from win an Olympic gold, win a world title, unify the titles, defend them several times, avenge his defeats, retire undefeated, and remain retired in spite of huge sums being offered him to come back, staying happy, healthy and wealthy? In history, three names stand out among the heavyweights, well, two really. Gene Tunney, Lennox Lewis, maybe Rocky Marciano. Marciano left on his own terms, but couldn't really be described as comfortable, always scrabbling around for money after he quit the ring. The other two seemed perfectly happy with their ring earnings, I don't say they didn't earn considerable fees based on their achievements, but they never had to step through the ropes again. Isn't that the dream of every kid who straps on the gloves for the risk time? To be rich, famous and, it goes without saying, fit and reasonably healthy 'til the end of their days?

    whether Tyson would've beat Holyfield or Lewis if he was in his prime '86 to '89, it's hard to say. anyone can get caught and get knocked the fuck out. anyone!!!! and there wasn't a better speed/power ratio kinda fighter than Tyson in his prime. I would've loved to see Tommy Morrison vs Tyson. they were as similar of fighters than I've ever seen. Morrison had equal power, and just about as much speed and head movement. would've been a great fight, but I doubt it would've lasted more than 2 rounds.

    A "lucky escape" for a "flagrantly under-conditioned Lewis." If an out of shape Lewis stops Vitali, imagine what an in-shape Lewis does. Then consider what a prime Lewis does.
    "According to a recent interview with Lennox’s former master trainer Emanuel Steward, Lennox’s wife Violet Chang did not want him to ever box again, giving him an ultimatum to choose: it’s either boxing or her."
    Emanual, "She didn’t want him to continue boxing, despite the fact that Lewis still wanted to fight." Respect!

    Lewis was the better fighter than both Holyfield and Tyson, but he wasn’t the finished fighter until he got with Manny in 95.
    It’s also a fact that both Bowe and Tyson ducked Lewis. Bowe dumped the wbc belt in the bin, and Tyson in 96 faced Holyfield rather than Lennox, expecting an easier ride. In regards to Holyfield though, have nothing but the upmost respect for him…and he did much better in his 2nd fight with Lewis. It would have been interesting if Holyfield fought Lewis between 93-94. If Holyfield didn’t have his health issue at that time, and this is Lewis pre Manny Steward, I think Holyfield could well have edged a close decision.

      How do you get that? Tyson, as great as he was to watch, KO'd only bums or washed up fighters. Tyson even admitted he had trouble going the distance due to breathing conditions. Ali was famous for going 15 rounds and had a devastating jab, as well as quick speed and reflexes. Ali beat the best heavyweights in history of the sport. Men like Foreman, Frazier, Norton, Quarry, etc. I can not say the same for Tyson. Not only that, but Tyson tended to falter when bullied (look at the Holyfield fights). Ali would get into Tyson's head and toy with him. This is what makes Ali apart from many fighters, the ability to stay calm and focused regardless of the deep fear inside, and Ali uniquely displayed this with comedy.

    • @greenwilly69
      @greenwilly69 10 лет назад +5

      ***** really? Lewis was 37 years old when he fought Klitschko, whereas Klitschko was in his prime, and yet Lewis still won, Klitschko may've been leading on the cards but that doctor stoppage saved him from getting a serious beating; Lewis was coming on strong and was landing his right hand at will with Klit's vision severely impaired, Lewis didn't owe him a rematch and was already talking about retirement prior to that fight anyway, he's one of the only boxers to have defeated every man he ever faced, that is a dominant fighter

    • @greenwilly69
      @greenwilly69 10 лет назад +3

      ***** proving your point? lol your argument is the one with the "ifs", if Lewis hadn't turned Klitz's face into hamburger meat maybe he would've won by points, and if pigs had wings they would fly etc, here's the fact: Lewis won and Klitz can go cry about it, another fact: Lewis retired as the last undisputed heavyweight champion, maybes are for losers and Lewis is a winner

    • @greenwilly69
      @greenwilly69 10 лет назад +3

      ***** your arguments are getting very dull, no I don't judge fights on how faces look or on blood, I judge them by results, doctor stoppages are part of boxing and if you don't get that then you are the one who doesn't understand boxing, and yes he lost to 2 underdogs but he avenged those losses, every good fighter loses sometimes, you obviously have a hate-on for Lewis so you aren't going to change your mind, but I'm sure Lewis isn't losing too much sleep that crybabies like you didn't enjoy his fights

    • @TA152H01
      @TA152H01 10 лет назад +5

      ***** It's almost funny how people say stuff like you do. It's not that it's not true, it's just that it's true for any fighter you want to talk about.
      Tyson lost to a third tier fighter named Buster Douglas. Was Douglas better than Tyson? Who did Tyson ever beat in their prime that was a great fighter? What happened when he got knocked down? He stayed down, and groped like Mr. Magoo. How does Tyson manage to be past his prime at 24, just because that's when he lost? That's awfully convenient - when a guy loses, that proves he's past his prime.
      I could say the same stuff about Ali. He struggled against scrubs like Sonny Banks and Zora Folley in his prime, although at least he knocked the latter out. Then he finally fought a great young fighter in Frazier, and lost. Then he fought Norton three times, a guy far from great, and never could convincingly beat him.
      Marciano? Pick on his opponents.
      Holmes? Ditto, plus nearly getting knocked out a few times.
      Foreman? Folded the first time he got tested, and got bounced off the canvas by Jimmy Young and Ron Lyle.
      Frazier? Fought two great fighters, and lost to them both, twice. Nearly was KO'ed by Bonavena.
      Louis? Fought nothing but bums, got raped by Schmeling, and won a horrible decision against Walcott the first fight. Plus, had terrible movement.
      You get the point, if you don't like a guy, you can pick on anything, and you'll probably be right. Lewis wasn't perfect. So far, no heavyweight has even approached it. All have flaws, and all have styles they struggle with. Honestly, it's much more interesting that way, anyway.

    "Weaker" is a relative term. I didn't say Holmes was weak per se. I said in comparison to the notably strong Lewis he was. Most guys who fought Lewis were surprised by how strong he was - even for his size.
    Trevor Berbick went the distance with Holmes. In fact he gave him a pretty good fight. Berbick wouldn't do anything against Lewis. If he tried to force an ugly fight Berbick wakes up in the hospital. The biggest difference between Holmes and Lewis is Lewis' elite power.

    I realize we are going to disagree here but watch the start. Watch the start of both really.
    You have to get Tyson's respect to slow him down. You see that throughout his career. His big hope is to do major damage early and end soon. Or reduce his opponent to holding on.
    He had all the movement he ever did, early in those fights. The difference between RR and Spinks is RR "hits like a fucking mule kick" and is much larger. So Tyson didn't have his way early and started to slow a bit.

    Let me help you out. Vitali was stopped - that's pretty conclusive. Lewis looked old and slow which may be due to what Jim Lampley described as "flagrantly under-conditioned". Vitali was in tip top shape. The only thing the rematch would do, presuming Lewis was motivated to get into fighting shape, would be to allow Lewis to dominate Vitai.
