Ivar Simonsson Lewis was in his prime at the Tyson fight, he was a much better boxer at later ages because if his fighting style, whereas Tyson relied on speed and that goes away when 30+ if Tyson was in his prime he would been able to duck punches and go in for the uppercuts, Lewis was ducking him in the late80s by staying in the Olympics even though he could have went full professional
Lewis was not only older than Tyson, but he beat him so easily. TBH when Tyson fought great fighters he got stopped. (Holmes was ancient and coming out of retirement, so i don't count him as a great fighter when he fought Tyson). Mike Tyson is very overrated. Who did he beat?
Unquestionably one of the greatest of all time. Experts recognize it. Casuals see the Tyson highlights and talk utter shit. Who knows who would have won in there prime but both are greats. Lewis unquestionably sits above him in boxing history though
Graham Taylor he didn’t care at that point he did it for the money cause he was in debt and begged for a rematch cause his debt was so bad plus he retired in 2005 the fight was in 2002 in his 20’s was back in the 80’s where his mind was right
He's humble and that goes a long way,he took the time to learn his style and master his craft.while Tyson got off to a flying start his mind never came to grips with age while Lennox always kept himself in a good frame of mind.
The truth of the matter is Lennox' stock is rising all the time now. In the U.S he when he was fighting he did not get the credit he deserved properly. But now after he beat everyone and then some, the U.S fans are starting to appreciate just how great and tough a champ he really was. This man did not let his sole two defeats go without destroying the two that he lost to. And his defeat of Holyfield, Tua, Briggs, Tyson, Klitschko, Mercer certainly puts him in anybodies top 10.

To be great first you have to beat great. When Tyson fought great fighters he got stopped. His best wins were over a geriatric Holmes coming out of retirement and former Light Heavyweight Champ Spinks. All you have to do to shut these fanboys up is ask the question: Who did he beat?
Thread revival but Lewis would have needed to survive the first six rounds before his jab would have dominated. Tyson was awesome at stopping inside against bigger men and I think there's a strong chance he'd have tagged Lewis within those first six rounds.
Have you ever listened to the Juanepstein podcast with him and Cipha Sounds? When they do their own thing and talk hip hop without being limited on hot97 it's a very entertaining experience. Peters knowledge on hip hop is astounding.
I don't like his point of view on a lot of things hip hop. Like his obsession with TDE and Kendrick. I find him annoying during Hip Hop convos for some reason.
I'm referring to his knowledge of older hip hop. I think his obsession of Kendrick is based on the fact that he's the been the most conscious rapper to have such huge commercial success in a very long time.
No it was one of his last 4 fights, he fought Etienne, Williams and McBride after Lewis. And Lewis had just one fight after Tyson, against Vitali Klitschko.
Jason Phillips yeah but he lost 3 of the last 4. obviously washed up. Not saying it was a sure thing earlier. It basically would've boiled down to if Mike could've found his chin in time but Mike was much more efficient at finding their chin early in his career but still a toss up
Yet Lewis will never ever admit this. Every time he gets behind the microphone, even to this day, he is still trying to talk people into believing that he deserves a better place in pugilistic history. This tells me that on some level, he knows that he didn't do enough in the ring to go down as one of the all time greats.
lewis never fought a prime tyson. it would have been so different . but you still cant take away the fact that he was truly a great champion. and being super humble makes it even better !
I’m a huge fan of Mike Tyson but I don’t think it would have been any different. Lennox was too big and strong - Think back to prime Mike Tyson against Tony Tucker - Tyson won but not only did he not knock Tucker down, it didn’t even look like he would knock him down. Tyson was the MOST EXCITING fighter of the modern era- In fact, Tyson was arguably the most exciting ever but Lennox was a better Boxer and a bad match up for Tyson. What you don’t see behind the scenes is that these guys, Tyson and Lennox, Tyson and Holyfield had all in fact sparred in their younger days and both Holyfield and Lennox handled Tyson okay. It is a wonder why they did not get their shot at Tyson earlier.
Classic things losers say. Coulda, woulda, shoulda, pathetic. If you only want money, don't get in the ring. You can play what if games all day, bottom line, Lewis beat em all, no matter the shape. Step off
It is well documented that Mike did not follow his championship regiment for that Buster Douglas fight. Buster Douglas one the fight for sure - but he wasn't fighting a match-fit Tyson.
Of course you beat Mike Tyson because Tyson spend 3 years in prison and his level of boxing was not the same anymore as 1986 Mike Tyson prime, If Lennox would've fight Tyson in those years Lennox would've been destroyed everybody knows that. So when he said people thought he was the best, we didn't thought he was the best HE IS THE BEST.
what a brave tough guy Lennox is fought tyson and holyfield in the last year of their career and completely out of shape when he's at his peak very brave, this story inspired me not to be chicken
To be fair, people were ducking Lewis after the Ruddock fight. King admittedly kept Tyson away from him in the 90s (though Tyson was already an unmotivated paycheck fighter at that point), Bowe gave up his title rather than fight him and really, Lewis was pretty easy to duck. He wasn't box office and he got knocked out by McCall. Nobody was screaming out to watch a Lewis fight. Took him years to get back allowed back into the top tier - couldn't get a fight with Holyfied until 1999. But then charisma matters and he can't blame anyone else that he didn't have it.
I like Mike,he is a legend, but he took over the division when there wasn’t any great opponent, may be Michael Spinks but he was more of a cruiser, and,of course, great 40 yers old Larry Holmes, who was long period retired.
Bear in the woods Yeah he was arrogant against Mccall and that's why he lost! What a stupid bunch of excuses. Regardless if you're arrogant or not, if you're going in the fight prepared like Lewis was against Mccall, then you're going to win, regardless of the arrogance. Fact is however, Lewis isn't as good as you claim and he lost. Stop making up shitty excuses. Tyson was way out of his prime on the other hand when he fought Douglas and Holyfield. Not to mention Holyfield cheating with the headbutts.
Oliver McCall knocked him out. And became the heavyweight champion. He really never beat Oliver McCall in the 2nd fight. Because Oliver McCall had a mental break down in the middle of the ring before the fight even really got through the 2nd or 3rd round. So Lennox Lewis ended up winning his belt back. Oliver wouldn't fight back. Something personal he had going on outside of boxing was effecting him mentally and emotionally that night. Hats off to both of those boxing legends. Two champions 🥊🏅👊🏽🥇💪🏽
That's Tyson's fault, not Lewis's. He wanted him years before. He would have fought him in the early 90's if Tyson wasn't in prison. Once Tyson was out, he continually ducked Lewis until he had nowhere else to go and he needed the big payday.
Lewis is older than Tyson of course. Tyson, like RJJ, was just not as good once he lost just a wee bit of speed and explosiveness. But Lennox was a big fighter, not scared, no sure thing at all Tyson would have ever beat Lewis.
Delbert Delbert yeah that's a little ridiculous to say he wasn't undisputed when the only belt he didn't have was his brother's. Then again if they did fight I'm pretty sure big brother would be undisputed champ

Ivar Simonsson Lewis was in his prime at the Tyson fight, he was a much better boxer at later ages because if his fighting style, whereas Tyson relied on speed and that goes away when 30+ if Tyson was in his prime he would been able to duck punches and go in for the uppercuts, Lewis was ducking him in the late80s by staying in the Olympics even though he could have went full professional
bigal for sure
Lewis was not only older than Tyson, but he beat him so easily.
TBH when Tyson fought great fighters he got stopped. (Holmes was ancient and coming out of retirement, so i don't count him as a great fighter when he fought Tyson). Mike Tyson is very overrated. Who did he beat?
Lewis has the best record in heavyweight history
Unquestionably one of the greatest of all time. Experts recognize it. Casuals see the Tyson highlights and talk utter shit. Who knows who would have won in there prime but both are greats. Lewis unquestionably sits above him in boxing history though
Joey O'D tyson would win with one arm behind his back in his prime
When Tyson fought great fighters he got stopped. Lewis was levels above Tyson.
Tyson lost those fights because mike wasn’t mike.
Yeah
He was the best knockout artist of all time but he lost his love for the art.
Never did it when he fought Lewis for the titles though.
Graham Taylor he didn’t care at that point he did it for the money cause he was in debt and begged for a rematch cause his debt was so bad plus he retired in 2005 the fight was in 2002 in his 20’s was back in the 80’s where his mind was right
Kaiden Lo Tyson not having cash or not being right in is head is not the fault of Lewis.
Most of those fighters you named were passed their prime.
The bout between Lennox & Mike is the most watched boxing event ever.
Tyson was best att 80s!!
You fight him 2002!
16 years after hi was on Top
alb 77
Exactly
That was the problem though. Tyson's peak lasted 3 to 4 years while Lennox's lasted 10+.
Dude lewis is older than Tyson ☝🏿
Lennox Lewis you got to give it to him he went out of his way to fight the best and went through trials to get there
Lennox 100% Best heavyweight of all time.. George Foreman: "Lennox Lewis is the best heavyweight of all time"
Mezo Riccio nahhhhhhh Tyson
True! And evander.
@@krishanmenon420 Nah, Ali.
I agree but people don't like him coz he fought with his brain ,not his heart.
I'm a citizen of the world! Right on man that's is amazing
Nah after Lennox met Manny Stewart it was over for everyone it made him way better
For me I’d go with Lennox but when he was in his prime Mike Tyson was a killer with skill almost unstoppable
What Tyson podcast is Rosenburg talking about?
I am a huge Lennox Lweis fan but Hasim Rahman was representing Baltimore! Had to cheer for the hometown favorite
Lennox looks GREAT !!! He's really taken god care of himself.
One of the greats top 10 heavy for sure
a man of no land and world champ is cool by me
Rip Van Winkle was from the Catskills.
Lewis was far too skilled and intelligent to get intimidated by Tyson's repertoire of psychological intimidation and cheap insults....
It's really refreshing to see an ex-boxer that can string a sentence together and doesn't seem to have any memory loss issues....
Tyson and Holyfield 2 off America's great but Lennox bested them both
Easy Grin yeah but Lewis got knocked out cold twice in his prime by two club fighters. Lewis’s chin was his biggest and may of been his only weakness
Tyson in his prime actually knocked Lewis out for 5 min which was confirmed by Cus Damato their coach
@@krishanmenon420 right on sure would have
Lennox Lewis the GOAT.
A good dude. A solid performer
Edit: you guys can’t make an excuse for a fighter “out of his prime” times change and you have to stay motivated and excel, fight and kill the predators around you. If you fall to a killer it’s on you
I would actually love to see the original fight between those two back in the 80's.
Lewis that jab of his omgggggggggggggg so nice....
Lol hell yeah.I like that jab.
Random Tv Right. His safety first approach to boxing was really nice!
Random Tv stop sucking up to this over hyped poor man. His pay check means nothing literally if you're aware of money paper money has no value what so ever because Lewis is the dumbest man ever laughing at the tax man tax what the notes you have written up as blank checks and consider that as valuable a piece of designed paper is not value-based money it's currency not money he's not rich he's a puppet to be fed to the media
FakeAceDisgrace you're boundless submission to living blindly is devastating for America as a whole
The US never wanted to give him his Props...and they treated him badly In the Arenas...but above all he was one of the best and he deserves his Just Due.
Mike Tyson was the best
lXDIEDXTRYING rocky was da champ he beat Ivan drago he beat that other guy Mr t played he took a brick to the face and a shovel to the temple and just kept walking through it to devastate his attacker rocky Balboa da best to Eva do it put any boxer up against Balboa he spanking them it don't matter than can stab his neck wide open he's walking through it to decapitate whoever it is attacking him you can throw him into a furnace and he'll punch out of it one punch than tear through it and knock out the referee Balboa nobody can it do it better ha ha
The salt mines of America...
Wed never uly know that because of the rape incarceration
Adrian Tyson was the best, Lenox isn't as good
To be great first you have to beat great. When Tyson fought great fighters he got stopped. His best wins were over a geriatric Holmes coming out of retirement and former Light Heavyweight Champ Spinks. All you have to do to shut these fanboys up is ask the question: Who did he beat?
He was silky smooth as a boxer and talks silky smooth just as a human being. Glad he's still in tact and doesn't need subtitles.
the last great heavy champ!!
Lennox, Bowe and Tyson fighting each other in their primes of that era would have been something to see
Lennox vs Mike at their respective best - Lennox was too big and strong. His jab would dominate.
You sir must know a thing or two about boxing.
Thread revival but Lewis would have needed to survive the first six rounds before his jab would have dominated. Tyson was awesome at stopping inside against bigger men and I think there's a strong chance he'd have tagged Lewis within those first six rounds.
Wow 6 years ago. You should do a part two interview
I like rosenberg talking sports more than I like him talking hip hop.
Century SAM true
Lennox was the greatest to ever do it. A complete natural.
The Lennox Lewis fight was one of Tysons last 3 fights. He was washed up by the time he fought Lewis
It basically would've boiled down to if Mike could've found his chin in time but Mike was much more efficient at finding their chin early in his career but still a toss up
Checkers Lane The Tyson fights was one of Lennox's last 2 fights. Lennox was obviously washed up.
Yet Lewis will never ever admit this. Every time he gets behind the microphone, even to this day, he is still trying to talk people into believing that he deserves a better place in pugilistic history. This tells me that on some level, he knows that he didn't do enough in the ring to go down as one of the all time greats.
epaulk1969 ohh please his among the all time greats. Only a casual would say otherwise
Lennox Lewis's personality is professional, super humble and lovable.
lewis never fought a prime tyson. it would have been so different . but you still cant take away the fact that he was truly a great champion. and being super humble makes it even better !
Lewis is older than tyson
Prime Tyson fought never Someone the caliber of prime Lewis or Holyfield. If, nobody would speak about Tyson anymore!
@@gongylophis7078 mike spinks was pretty good before mike obliterated him
@@goldenDropBear Spinks was a blown up middleweight, he was beaten before the fight had started.
I for one appreciate an ATG boxer (Lewis) whose speech isn't laden with profanity and trash-talk. Good on Lennox.
Lennox 'Legend' Lewis is the GOAT and would have beaten in prime and anyone else...
What about Muhammad Ali
1) Ali 2) Louis 3) JJ 4) George Foremam 5) Lennox.
Lennox Lewis. you will NEVER, NEVER be at the same level at 80s mike tython.
Classic things losers say. Coulda, woulda, shoulda, pathetic.
If you only want money, don't get in the ring. You can play what if games all day, bottom line, Lewis beat em all, no matter the shape.
Step off
Tyson is GOAT
Persian Life SMH LoL
Never!! Tyson is the greatest ever!
Your right.... his above it ahahahaahhha
Canada will always love you Lennox and thanks for Silver in 84 and Gold in 88 Champ...
Silver in 1984❓❓❓
Tyson would fuck him up in his best 💪🏻
Joe Marshall
Would've been a slaughter
Respect to Lewis from Nepal!🙏🙏🙏
he wouldn't of beat Tyson in his prime though
It is well documented that Mike did not follow his championship regiment for that Buster Douglas fight. Buster Douglas one the fight for sure - but he wasn't fighting a match-fit Tyson.
BlaqAdam Lennox Lewis joined the professionals when Mike was champion, so same thing would have happened with the not taking people seriously.
Not true! Tyson paid Lewis step aside money not to fight him.
his peak was 1985 to 1988, Tyson, Step aside money was paid him in 1996. a lot later.
James Regardless, people fail to realise both fighters were over the hill, Lennox only had one fight after that Mike fight.
Lennox takes a shot at Tyson @1:04.. Lennox is the greatest and doesnt like when you speak “TOO” highly of someone he demolished
Did he say dated
This guy deserves more credit.
2 great fighters I wouldn't like to choose who would win
He beat Tyson, don't act as if you guys know what would happen had their fight were in a different era
@West coast Dre When training for amateurs, that was before he was 19. More like 15 or so.
West coast Dre .....correct. Lennox Lewis was out for 5 minutes. Joe Egan conformed it when he gave a first hand account.
what a brave tough guy Lennox is
fought tyson and holyfield in the last year of their career and completely out of shape when he's at his peak
very brave, this story inspired me not to be chicken
Holyfield and Lewis fought Tyson when he was past his prime.
So were they..
Absolute legend. One of the best ever.
I like Mike,he is a legend, but he took over the division when there wasn’t any great opponent, may be Michael Spinks but he was more of a cruiser, and,of course, great 40 yers old Larry Holmes, who was long period retired.
We all loved Lenix when I was a kid.
If Mike Tyson didn't go to prison, Lennox Lewis wouldn't have a career!!
If the greatest never got robbed for 4 years you would have a 80-0 fighter and you wouldn't even talk or Tyson or this great man.
He never raped Robin. We all know that lol
Well, its most likely true, at the time Lewis almost lost to Mercer and was knocked out by Mccall and struggled to even beat Bruno.
There are no ifs in boxing, my friend. Leave the ifs, buts and the excuses to the girls.
Lennox one problem you fought Mike Tyson too late
That's Tyson's fault, not Lewis's. He wanted him years before. He would have fought him in the early 90's if Tyson wasn't in prison. Once Tyson was out, he continually ducked Lewis until he had nowhere else to go and he needed the big payday.
Tyson ducked and dodged Lewis for years - Lewis = GOAT
Lewis is a legend and I’m not saying he wouldn’t of beat prime Tyson....but the Tyson he faced was a shadow of himself.
Lewis is older than Tyson of course. Tyson, like RJJ, was just not as good once he lost just a wee bit of speed and explosiveness. But Lennox was a big fighter, not scared, no sure thing at all Tyson would have ever beat Lewis.
Klitchko would have been undisputed champ but he wouldn't fight his brother. Come on, Lennox.
Delbert Delbert yeah that's a little ridiculous to say he wasn't undisputed when the only belt he didn't have was his brother's. Then again if they did fight I'm pretty sure big brother would be undisputed champ
They greatest heavyweight camp ever
He thinks he was the second coming of Ali
Roseburg what happened to the Andre Ward interview that was up????
Listen to how arrogant Lennox is versus Tyson's self-effacing, humble personality !
*****
Lennox is not only a third rate clubber, he is an asshole, too
Nelson Mongare
Emmanuel Stewart is s liar
Nelson Mongare
Lol, you will quote any lying ignorant fool who agreed with you!
I'm surprised you haven't quoted Don King! After all, he Is in "the relevant field", lmfao
Mike's ferocity, his dynamism, his incredible speed, agility, athleticism & prowess will go down in history as unparalleled in his prime.
He was a modern day Jack Dempsey. He was truly great, a thing to marvel!
Nelson Mongare,
You still spending your life defending that sorry sack of shit Lennox "the bitch" Lewis ?
You are right, about one thing:
Nothing you say has any "bearing on anything", close quote, lol
Lennox Lewis was kinda underrated for his greatness of his era. He is comparable to Karl Malone of another sport who's greatness was also under appreciated by some people. Both absolutely excells in their chosen fields but their cerebral approaches and systematic displays doesn't sit well with most fans who prefers aggressive and exciting styles for their sports heroes.
MT was not in his prime when he lost to Lennox Lewis. That wasn’t the same ferocious Mike Tyson.
