This was a really cool episode. Way to go. Excellent job. I love it that The Canadian and American sides of Niagara Falls share the fireworks. We do that here in August. More Later. Here everyone goes to the St. Andrews which is the traditional Shiretown for Charlotte County for Canada Day. We also call it July 1st quite often, more often than other areas I am told. The day starts off with the Sea cadets and dignitaries doing the Colours ceremony. (Raising the Flags) There is a huge farmers market and entertainment. Then there is a ceremony at Kingsbrae Gardens to remember the Afghan Veterans and those that didn't come home from that conflict. At 1:00 pm there is a big parade. There is often a concert at the KIRA Amphitheater, last year it was Jimmy Rankin. At night there are huge fireworks off the wharf. There is usually over ten thousand people that come down to St. Andrews to take in the celebrations with the locals. It is an active spot. On the 4th of july everyone heads down to Eastport Maine. Canadians included. They have much the same as St. Andrews but not the big concert. They usually have a US warship in for the Fourth with tours and the crew take part in the parade in the afternoon. And at night they have huge fireworks from the wharf. This year it didn't happen but I think they may have had fireworks in Calais as we could hear fireworks from our deck that sounded too many and too big to be private. In August the Town of St. Stephen and City of Calais celebrate International Days. With activities on both sides and a parade that alternates the starting side every year that starts in one country and ends in the other. The end of the festival is a really huge set of fireworks both communities share the cost of. At one point one side shot them off and the next year the other. However someone realized the cost of fireworks is a lot less on the US side than the Canadian side. So we get more bang for the buck. Literally. You guys should come down here and experience it. it's pretty cool. I imagine nowhere near as big as it would be up there with the cities and all, but it is good do. Also Eastport does the greased pole to get the flag at the end over the cold salt water. It's a hoot to watch. And there are fishing boat races and other stuff. This year is hard because everyone is missing their friends and family so much and there were not as much for celebrations. Though they had some on the US side. You guys could try Dulse, Moxie, Pal-O-Mine bars and Blueberry whatever from both sides for that. And decide who has the best lobster. Both sides here it's the best because the Bay of Fundy is much colder than the Gulf of Maine or the Northumberland Straight. And the colder the lobster the tastier the lobster, or lobstah.... We like Hellen's Restaurant the best for a seafood meal in Machais Maine but the best Fish and Chip is probably at the Red Herring in St. Andrews. And while you guys were duking it out up there and killing each other in the War of 1812 here we had a peace treaty between our communities. though the Canadian Island of Machias Seal Island is still claimed by both sides the Canadians maintain a manned lighthouse on it while the US side does bird watching tours on it. Sorry for the novel, but I love your show and being from a truly international community it is especially more interesting. We eat basically twice the treats and junk food everyone else does and before Covid-19 crossing the border was done multiple times daily.
I’m a Canadian living in the states and my favourite question I sometimes get from Americans is: “Do you have the 4th of July in Canada?”. I just smile sweetly and tell them “No, our calendars go from July 3rd to July 5th”. Most of the time I’m the only one laughing! 😂. Love you guys!

Over 800 members of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment “went over the top” on July 1st, 1916. 68 answered roll call the next day. July 1st is like Remembrance Day. It’s appropriate then to celebrate Canada Day after noon. The provincial list of holidays says its Memorial Day. More interesting Canadian facts!

I'm in ontario, and we have a french Canadian club here that celebrates st jean baptiste every year. They have lobster and baked potatoes. It's great. My dad is french Candian so we also celebrate every year
I was born and raised in Windsor. It was called the International Freedom Festival and it used to and might still be the largest fireworks display in North America. Some place in Kentucky beat it one year but, Google still says Detroit & Windsor is "one of the biggest." And, it says in 2007 the International Freedom Festival split into the Windsor Summer Fest and Detroit River Days.
I was going to mention this but you beat me too it! You guys should definitely try to come and see it next year! Sidenote, have you ever seen the Canada house in Windsor?

I am glad I was sent here from Critical Eats Japan! My father's family was originally from Canada and had moved to Presque Isle Maine by the time he was born. He grew up only speaking French and moved to Massachusetts after the army and Korean War. He took us up only once when I was young. I live in ottawa all my life and its funny to me how when i travel around the country people tell me going to a Canada day in Ottawa is on their bucket list...for me its so normal to go every year...just a short bus ride away.
I think the 11 day record for the longest hockey game was indoor. The outdoor record was the 250 hour game in Strathcona County, Alberta (Bloody Cold). I believe both were for Cancer charities so both were good.
For the last question, I looked it up out of curiously because I knew many players in the NHL in the US were Canadian. The website I checked said from the founding of the NHL in 1917, when all four of its teams were located to Canada, to the current-day mix of 7 Canadian and 24 American teams 44% of the players in the NHL are Canadian which is the highest % out of all countries listed from the USA, Finland, Sweden, Russia etc. So even though the US won the most Stanley Cups, Canadian born players had a big impact on that.
It’s never been a huge family thing for me either. I now live in a smaller community and here I would say family and/or friends spend a good part of the day together. When I was younger living in or near Ottawa I enjoyed going downtown. I got over that as soon as I had kids.
On Canada Day we normally got to Fort Rodd Hill (Parks Canada). We have a piece of the "largest birthday" cake, 21 gun salute, picnic at the park / BBQ later that that night with extended family.
so in Oakville Ontario (which is right next to Burlington) at Bronte Harbor, we have this massive fireworks show where you can't even move because the harbor is filled up with like the entire town, and there are a few barges out on the lake that just send of fireworks like machine guns for hours.

And with COVID, I was worried I couldn't have family when we were all shut down. But I said to my wife....by Canada Day we better be able to celebrate! And we did, I had my Korean Nephew in Law and my Niece over and it felt great to appreciate our country. Jason, I thought of you guys on the Fourth, and always do. The USA I feel at home in almost as much as home....almost lol

I'd say you are generally correct about Canada Day Joseph. Out West Canada Day is more about the extended weekend than the day of celebrations. Best time of year to camp and/or visit with family/friends. Although we all made sure to stay in Calgary for the 150 celebration a couple years back with a famous local artist playing downtown and the fireworks in the background. Was an absolutely amazing time, I wish it was something we could expect for every Canada Day.
I heard some fireworks last night. It’s July 8th today. Lol. The 4th was crazy here. I just sat in my lawn chair in the middle of the street and watched people and their kids shoot fireworks. It lasted until 1:30 AM. People in Austin Texas do it big.
We do have a love for a holiday that equals Americans love of July 4th. For us it's May 24 weekend. Being a much colder country that our typical first weekend of the year we all go to our cottages and trailers to do all the "usual July 4th" activities like beer, barbeque and family

I live in Ontario, about an hour east of Toronto. We go camping or have a bbq every Canada day! There’s a big water front festival in our town and fireworks. 🇨🇦❤️
I knew about the UFO landing pad as my father was born in St.Paul Alberta! 🇨🇦 As a family we would go out to my grandpas, he lived on a 1 acre lake front. Everyone living around the lake would do a firework show! My grandpa and dad did a wicked one off our lawn into the lake. He passed away and my parents now live at the house and we have continued our tradition and now my nieces are there to enjoy our big back yard holiday!
We're gonna keep extending the boarder closure until they start dropping the curve. Probably on a month to month basis but I'd bet this goes on for a year or so.

We have a parade, fair grounds, family BBQ and fireworks every July 1. Westville, NS, Canada. Families get together from all over, returning home sometimes being the only time of the year you see most of your family. Just Subscribed to 11 days as well.

Hey Joseph! I don't know about you but it's the May 2-4 weekend that's a big deal to me, my family and friends. July 1st, was just another excuse for fireworks, heading down to Ontario Place or Ashbridges Bay to watch a REAL fireworks show as opposed to staying at home.
Strangely enough smaller towns in Canada have bigger and better Canada celebrations. One example is Brantford ON with a midway, food trucks and all day concert from well known Canadian bands.
I'm not sure what the hell you and your teacher were talking about at the beginning. lol I just turned 56 in march, and for me, and everybody I know, Canada Day has always been huge. Especially for me,, growing up in Wiarton Ontario, because it's such a huge tourist destination.(As a teen and young adult, the long weekend drunk campout, was as big, as the May Two-Four blasts) Also, the fireworks display the town, and I think it was the Rotary Club, put on over Colpoys Bay, down at Blue Water Park was always spectacular. But even after I left home and I moved to Guelph, It's been as popular here too, with everyone I've met. Canada Day has *'always'* been big

Quebec : St-Jean-Baptiste is usually very big and hard partying (Like 4th of July in USA). Canada day, you could expect is not as big in Quebec. Although those who do celebrate it, they can throw a pretty big party as well.
Here in Québec, we celabrate really hard on St-jean-baptiste one week earlier on June 24th. We celabrate "moving day"on July 1st because move us move around that day when we move.

153 years ago, a bunch of, Irishmen, Englishmen, and Quebecers, led by a drunken Scot announced the ratification of the BNA act to form the Dominion of Canada, one big happy family; and like every good family, we've been bickering about who gets what and how much, ever since.
Critical Eats Japan sent me. The quiz is neat. 73$ dollars is a little low for everyone I know. Maybe 70 on fireworks if you were being a bit cheap and then the food/drinks depends on the amount of people tbh. My family spends more like 600 because its what we celebrate the hardest besides Christmas. But then again, some people don't buy at all. Hmmm

We have a Hockey Game in Edmonton, Alberta that has been going on for over 10 years, and every year they skate to break the last years record.

I heard some fireworks last night. It’s July 8th today. Lol. The 4th was crazy here. I just sat in my lawn chair in the middle of the street and watched people and their kids shoot fireworks. It lasted until 1:30 AM. People in Austin Texas do it big.

We do have a love for a holiday that equals Americans love of July 4th. For us it's May 24 weekend. Being a much colder country that our typical first weekend of the year we all go to our cottages and trailers to do all the "usual July 4th" activities like beer, barbeque and family

I live in Ontario, about an hour east of Toronto. We go camping or have a bbq every Canada day! There’s a big water front festival in our town and fireworks. 🇨🇦❤️

I knew about the UFO landing pad as my father was born in St.Paul Alberta! 🇨🇦 As a family we would go out to my grandpas, he lived on a 1 acre lake front. Everyone living around the lake would do a firework show! My grandpa and dad did a wicked one off our lawn into the lake. He passed away and my parents now live at the house and we have continued our tradition and now my nieces are there to enjoy our big back yard holiday!
We're gonna keep extending the boarder closure until they start dropping the curve. Probably on a month to month basis but I'd bet this goes on for a year or so.

We have a parade, fair grounds, family BBQ and fireworks every July 1. Westville, NS, Canada. Families get together from all over, returning home sometimes being the only time of the year you see most of your family. Just Subscribed to 11 days as well.

Hey Joseph! I don't know about you but it's the May 2-4 weekend that's a big deal to me, my family and friends. July 1st, was just another excuse for fireworks, heading down to Ontario Place or Ashbridges Bay to watch a REAL fireworks show as opposed to staying at home.
Strangely enough smaller towns in Canada have bigger and better Canada celebrations. One example is Brantford ON with a midway, food trucks and all day concert from well known Canadian bands.
I'm not sure what the hell you and your teacher were talking about at the beginning. lol
I just turned 56 in march, and for me, and everybody I know, Canada Day has always been huge.
Especially for me,, growing up in Wiarton Ontario, because it's such a huge tourist destination.(As a teen and young adult, the long weekend drunk campout, was as big, as the May Two-Four blasts) Also, the fireworks display the town, and I think it was the Rotary Club, put on over Colpoys Bay, down at Blue Water Park was always spectacular.
But even after I left home and I moved to Guelph, It's been as popular here too, with everyone I've met.
Canada Day has *'always'* been big

Quebec : St-Jean-Baptiste is usually very big and hard partying (Like 4th of July in USA). Canada day, you could expect is not as big in Quebec. Although those who do celebrate it, they can throw a pretty big party as well.
Here in Québec, we celabrate really hard on St-jean-baptiste one week earlier on June 24th. We celabrate "moving day"on July 1st because move us move around that day when we move.

We did the same thing over the Detroit River with Windsor!! Not sure if it's still going on.
My family never really celebrates it when we lived in or visited Smiths Falls we would occasionally go to Ottawa but we just watch the singers on TV and fireworks.

Critical Eats Japan sent me. The quiz is neat. 73$ dollars is a little low for everyone I know. Maybe 70 on fireworks if you were being a bit cheap and then the food/drinks depends on the amount of people tbh. My family spends more like 600 because its what we celebrate the hardest besides Christmas. But then again, some people don't buy at all. Hmmm
