Laura, I have watched so many craft tutorials and there are too many people talking about stuff that has nothing to do with what they are doing. Your tutorial was so refreshing and professonial it kept me watching til the very end. Thank you for doing this. It is was deffinetly worth the time it took you to make it.
Thanks so much for the video. I have recently started book binding and bought a sheet of scrapbooking paper that's called Tea Stained leather, that gives the same effect. Everyone loved how it looked, but it does cost $2 a sheet. Your technique looks a lot better, gives me more control and is cheaper. Thanks again.
Love this technique. I have done a technique 'like' this for years now. I paint my book or object first, then put mod podge all over one side, the put a whole sheet of crumpled up tissue paper on top, gathering as I go if I want more texture. Quick work. Then you can add stain or not. I use this technique for background painting roses. It makes the leaves come out beautifully because of the texture. Thank you for sharing your technique.
I am so impressed. I have been looking to do something like this on a journal( my first BTW) and I just knew what I wanted for the cover, and just came across your technique. PERFECT. I know what I will be doing today! I am looking forward to checking other of your techniques and of course checking out your blog..Thank You
Love the deeper texture of the small ripped pieces of tissue, I have done this with a single layer but I am trying your technique next time, Thanks for sharing, Kat
I have been following you for sometime especially your blog, I thank you for all that you share with us! I love this tech. I am working on a book now one side is done and I am loving it. Thanks so much. I am going to try your tin box book this week. Thanks!!
Thank you for sharing! I papered my first book last night and I can hardly wait to put finishing touches on it today. I was easier than i thought and it looks great :)
I did this process but notice the Mod Podge takes time to dry completely. I call a Mod Podge manufacturer and I was home not to pain over Mod Podge for 3 weeks because it takes three weeks for my Podge to cure. Have you done books quite some time ago that still look as good as when you did it? Thank you the tutorial was great
I really enjoyed watching you video Laura can't wait until I am healed up so I can try some of your techniques...thank you for sharing you love of creating!
I had a question about using this technique on a bottle and if you would need to prep it first with Gesso. Unfortunately, I accidentally deleted the question so hopeful the person who posted it finds the answer here. No, you don't have to prep the bottle. I used this techinque in my altered bottles tutorial and just used the Mod Podge to apply the paper and nothing else.
Your explanations and sample examples of your techniques as you go are wonderful. I really enjoy watching. I'm glad I found your channel. Subscribed. :)
A terrific tutorial, you really explain so well how each step is done! Thank you. My I ask, does the gilders paste seal itself? I have a similar product but it doesn't seal & when you touch afterwards, it comes off on hands. I love the books, fab results!! Take care, Caroline :)
Hi Laura, i'm from England. i realise this video is 5 years old, but could you please list all the materials used in this amazing demonstration? I'd love to try this out. i worry some of the products you use may not be available here in the UK. thank you. Tim
Thanks. I used tissue paper (the kind you use in gift bags or you see stores use to protect your purchase), Mod Podge glue but you could use any glue that dries clear and is not tacky. I used white acrylic paint. I used Ranger Distressed Stain Vintage Photo Color. I added Patina & Inca Gold Paste but you could use your finger to lightly brush some teal and gold acrylic paint onto the cover. I don't know about your local store, but I looked online and all of the products are available in the UK.
I love this technique! I saw this on Sandy Allnock's channel and she directed me to you. My question is this: I have not been very successful in cutting an area out of the pages. The only way I can get it to work is to glue the pages together first, which is fine sometimes but I want to make my granddaughter a journal with the center cut out but keep the pages loose. How did you get yours so perfect? I use an Exacto knife but still get jagged edges.
I use a box cutter with a fresh blade and a metal ruler as a guide. If you need to clean up edges you can use a Dremel with the sandpaper attachment to sand down the rough or uneven edges.
You can use anything you want. Distress inks would work great. If you use something watery like paint you might what to seal it first before applying paint.
I love this technique! question is, if I wanted to add an embellishment would I do it before the tissue or after or does it not matter? thank you for sharing - lovely video.
Thanks! It all depends on the look you want. You can go either way. If what you want is just the shape of the embellishment then add it before you add the tissue paper, otherwise add it after.
Oh my, I am in love! This is exactly what I've been looking for to cover my bible. Does the distress stain remain tacky at all? I saw in comments you recommended sealing it if handling (for the paste)---mod podge? Ppa?
+Sandy Allnock No it does not stay tacky. But I recommend sealing if it might be handled frequently, which may be the case for you. Mod Podge is fine or any other sealer you like to use.
Oh I love this so much, I was wondering.....I don't have the colored guilders paste (is that correct) that you used to add the color after the stain. Is there something else that would work to add the color after staining? One more question, would the Tim holtz distress inks work for coloring and staining it?
I saw your gorgeous stuff on Pinterest and was so glad you've done videos. I've had trouble with mod podge remaining tacky FOREVER (is it the Oregon weather?). I've ruined many tags that all stuck together & pulled off paint. The tags would pull apart but my Shannon Green "napkin decals", although seemingly bone dry, all stuck together & were impossible to pull apart. Do you know of anything that will seal them & prevent this?
+AnnOna Moss Hmm it could be (dampness). Maybe use something else to seal it like Gesso or an acrylic sealer. You could try it on a piece of chipboard first and see how it works for you. I used Mod Podge as it is the most affordable and accessible to the largest amount of people.
Thank you Laura for sharing your techniques. I have a question, the paste that you rubbed on the book at the end of the video.what is it called and who is the manufacturer?
It's up to you. If you think it will be handled a lot you might want to seal it. It also depends on what you use to color it. The Gilders paste I used drys well and won't rub off.
Thanks! I've never used colored tissue paper so I can't say for certain. I'm thinking that the color from the paper might bleed when wet so it probably would effect the outcome. But if you paint over it or use Mod Podge over the paper before doing the next step it should keep if from bleeding through. You might try it on a small piece of chipboard before using it on your project.
This is beautiful! I’m so happy to see another artist from the ‘modge podge’ universe 😂💚💚💚💚 what is this “mod” shiz... I swear it used to be MODGE PODGE... been buying it for at least 8 years. Sending you love 🌸💕💚🙏🏻🌈
I love your work BTW, wish I was your neighbor and I would waltz right over just to watch you work on projects. Of course I wouldn't be empty handed. I would take you my home made foods and enjoy your company as well. Hope you have a great day. :)
+sowsplace I used a box cutter with a new blade and a metal ruler. Hold the ruler along the line you want to cut and slowly cut through the cover. Use the hole in the cover to mark the hole in the pages and use the blade and ruler to slowly cut through all the pages. Be careful to keep the book square so that you don't end up cutting the pages in a slant.
Thanks, and yes I know. Try saying correctly several times and you'll figure out why. I manage to get it right a few times. It's a great tongue twister.
I did this exactly like the tutorial except I used crepe paper. It turned out wonderful until after the stain. Now it's sticky all over. any suggestions? thank you

Watching this was like being engrossed in a thrilling movie in which you cannot wait to see how it ends up. Beautiful!

What a refreshingly organized and professional tutorial. Thx.
This is an amazing technique!!! I have got to try this. It's beautiful!!! Thanks for the video.
Love the deeper texture of the small ripped pieces of tissue, I have done this with a single layer but I am trying your technique next time, Thanks for sharing, Kat
Thanks again Laura. Love the simplicity of these covers and really hope I can achieve the same results. Great techniques.

I live in a very dry climate (Arizona) so it dries very quickly here. Yes, the books still look as good as when I first make them.
@@ArtfullyMusingLaura thank you so much for your reply I love the process
Yes! I used this technique on a lampshade! It looks beautiful when the light is on😃😃😃😃😃
GORGEOUS, I love the colors you used and now I think I can do this too!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing your talent with this newbie!! Take care~~
I really enjoyed watching you video Laura can't wait until I am healed up so I can try some of your techniques...thank you for sharing you love of creating!

Tara, these covers are gorgeous! I have a question. My tissue paper doesn't look like yours. Could yours be waxed paper by any chance? Thank you.

Wonderful technique and your boxes are gorgeous, thanks for sharing..
This is so awesome. I have everything except the book. Going to go get one to do this.
Absolutely stunning technique. Your projects are gorgeous! TFS
Excellent tutorial and technique. Thank you for sharing your talent!
Do you put a sealer on the finish book?
No, because the products I used provide protection, but you could if you wanted to.
Beautiful books. Thanks for sharing your technique.
Thanks for demonstration as I got some nice ideas for the next project....
Thanks so much for this tutorial. It was very easy to follow. I plan on giving it a try today.
A great technique Laura tfs. I am wondering why you didn't paint the book cover white first? wouldn't that have saved you the second modpodge layer?
Excellent video.............just what I've been looking for. Thank you so much
This came out Gorgeous!!!! 👏👏

Great idea to use my dremel tool! Thanks Laura! Love your videos
You can use anything you want. Distress inks would work great. If you use something watery like paint you might what to seal it first before applying paint.
Great organized video. I like the technique.
Thanks April and I'm happy you enjoyed the tutorial
those are really beautiful pieces...
I Love your technique! So new of an idea and it looks great!
Maleen
Glad I found you, your work is beautiful!
Thanks for sharing, great technique! Can't wait to try!
The finish is gorgeous. Both books look great. Can I just ask what brand the gilders paste is, the teal colour you used looks like a must have to me.
Simply beautiful! Thank you.
Beautiful! Thanks for the tutorial. Question - do you seal it after the gilders paste?
Thanks! If it is just an art piece you don't need to but if it is going to be handled I would seal it.
Love your ideas!
Loved your tutorial & I can't wait to try it out - thank you!! :)

That is really cool looking!
Great technique! Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful and well done instructions

I love your method of teaching us. Thank you. Can I use this tech on ceramic?
Thanks and I don't see why not.
can you do this technique on a wall in a bathroom, will moisture affect it at all?
+kimberly martin Just be sure to seal it.
Thanks for the very clear tutorial. Very nice blog and instructing. jo
Wow so very cool . Thank you .
Great tutorial. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Laura for sharing your techniques. I have a question, the paste that you rubbed on the book at the end of the video.what is it called and who is the manufacturer?
Thanks Susan. The product is called Guiders Paste and it is made by Baroque Art
Laura, I just LOVE your channel!!! You RAWK!!!!❤ And I was wondering... do you seal the book once it is finished?
It's up to you. If you think it will be handled a lot you might want to seal it. It also depends on what you use to color it. The Gilders paste I used drys well and won't rub off.
Great video and thanks for sharing! What's the name of the gold stuff you put on at the end and the green stuff? Thanks!
+Najia S Thanks. Gilders Paste

AbsOluTeLy FaBuLoUs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad I found you !! Wonderful !!
Do you let layer dries before adding the new layer?
Yes.
Hello,do you have to put something on it to seal it when your done ? Thank you for this video really enjoyed it going to try it . Dot
It depends on how much it will be handled and what you use in coloring it. Mine is rarely handled so I didn't.
escuse me ,what kind of product of using at the last step? Is it the pastel powder? and could you recommend the product name for me?Thank you so much!
+吴明玉 It is Gilders Paste. It's creamy and comes in a tin.
Yes, the gilders paste will not come off after it drys.
Beautiful!
This is a great idea!
I really love it!! Gonna try to do something from your videos ; ))
beautiful !
Did you use the tissue paper one buys to wrap presents or stuff the baggies?
+Dona Paquita The paper you stuff into baggies
OK thank you :)
I love your work BTW, wish I was your neighbor and I would waltz right over just to watch you work on projects. Of course I wouldn't be empty handed. I would take you my home made foods and enjoy your company as well. Hope you have a great day. :)
Thanks Nicky. The brand I used is Baroque Art.
what type of tool did you use to cut the square hole in the cover and pages?
+sowsplace I used a box cutter with a new blade and a metal ruler. Hold the ruler along the line you want to cut and slowly cut through the cover. Use the hole in the cover to mark the hole in the pages and use the blade and ruler to slowly cut through all the pages. Be careful to keep the book square so that you don't end up cutting the pages in a slant.
thank you Laura
good work thank you
This is amazing! I LOVE this!!! The only thing is that it's MOD PODGE, not MODGE PODGE lol!
Thanks, and yes I know. Try saying correctly several times and you'll figure out why. I manage to get it right a few times. It's a great tongue twister.
Can you use acrylic ink for the stain?
I don't know as I have not tried it.
I did this exactly like the tutorial except I used crepe paper. It turned out wonderful until after the stain. Now it's sticky all over. any suggestions? thank you
+Tri Haley Paint it with a sealer, that should do the trick.
+Laura Carson so I can use mod podge and see if that works?
+Tri Haley Sure
+Laura Carson Thank you!
