    Almost in the dry before spring rains.
    One person timber frame operation rules. Two hands just ain't enough. Less handled timbers makes back feel better. Keep coffee hot and battery powered tools charged.

    Unbelievable. Just half the trips (or even less) up and down the ladder in ONE day would have done me in. The amount of labor you do alone is mind blowing. You make it look easy but there's so much to it and none of it is really easy and you do it by yourself! SMH Just wow. #SMO #SmokyMountainOutpost #Smoky #Dolly #HardWorkingMan #WhatWeDoin'

    After you burn wood do you sand before you apply timber oil? It looks like the black soot is gone when your putting on oil.

    • @SmokyMountainOutpost
      @SmokyMountainOutpost  2 года назад

      No I do not sand. It get mixed in what little there is. If I did it heavily I probably would

    I'm glad you're wearing a safety harness working that high up.
    Since you work around/with sharp edged tools a lot consider two other pieces of safety equipment to always carry: a tourniquet and a four inch pressure bandage. Yes, I know you've been trained as an EMP, yet a lot of us, especially those who carry protection devices, don't carry first aid devices as we should. I would be loathe to hear from other channels one day how you accidently cut yourself working around the homestead and bled out.
    If you're already carrying 'things' please disregard this post.
    God Bless

      It’s called Australian Timber Oil (Natural Finish), by a company called Cabot. We use several of their products.
      The natural finish does have a tint to it

  • @jtsmith1654

    Also why did you not notch the rafters on the plate?

    • @SmokyMountainOutpost
      @SmokyMountainOutpost  2 года назад

      Because I don’t think it’s needed. I have seen others do it and it’s cool, but I tend to do things how I see them in my head. The joint at the peak is well enough to hold any lateral movement which in turn holds the outside wall in place. I also don’t notch the beam for floor joists. I use a joist plate to rest them on and blocking between them. I have adopted different things I like and incorporate them into the build.

    I’m liking the timber frame build. I’m a new creator on RUclips. Can you tell me where you get your music?

      Hey terry, thanks for checking in! We use many different sites, but our main one is Epidemic Sound at the moment. You do need to pay for a license subscription fee, but it definitely helps to have music to choose from that you won’t get in trouble with.

      Hey welcome! Thanks for stopping in. Hope you enjoy.
      It’s called Australian Timber Oil. From a company called “Cabot”. We use the Natural finish. Although it says Natural, it does have that amber tint to it. They also have other finishes as well.
      We have also used a Clear Protector from the same company.
      Great stuff

    The burn look is fine but if your gonna do that then why not do the alligator burn instead?

      Didn’t want the wood completely blistered and blackened, a light flame brush with the oil we use creates a really nice contrast

      I understand the process is frustrating to some. I’m sorry for that. We try to video everything we did for the week and then edit it to be as interesting as possible. We are still continuing to try and improve our entertainment.
      Do you have any suggestions that we could think about implementing to help improve and be more accommodating to your liking?
