    In this diy video, we are working on building and finishing the roof rafters for the timber frame barn, workshop and sawmill. Continued high winds and rain have slowed down progress but steady on we go. We are using old school hand tools as well to fashion the woodwork like the early pioneers did. Follow along in the series as we build in stages. We also make a new mallet for wood working.

    The workshop is really coming along, you'll have the tractor out of the weather in no time. I really enjoy watching you build timber frame structures, there's a lot of thought process and details to keep in mind, and you seem to have them mastered. I also like the way you edit in occasional shots of the scenery around you with the hills and mountains, and of course Smoky and Dolly need their time in the spotlight as well.

    Outstanding, the fly rafters look very nice and I was wondering if you had compensated for the overlap, cutting two inches off after they were installed was probably the best! As always Blessings and keep up the good work.

    Looks very good! On one I built on my other piece of land I had 24” over hangers on the ends I just let my ridge beam extend 24” and let my bottom rafter beams also extend 24” I was able to use a rafter at the end on the over hang and completely do away with the outlooks and didn’t have to notch the rafters.

    • @SmokyMountainOutpost
      @SmokyMountainOutpost  Год назад

      I wanted to but I can only cut 16’ material. I couldn’t get the extra needed. However, the outcome is the same. I thought of that very thing before milling

    • @TheHarleyhillbilly
      @TheHarleyhillbilly Год назад

      @@SmokyMountainOutpost yep that limits what you can do I had a guy bring his mill over to my land and cut my logs he could cut up to 22’ so that is what I had him to do. I made mine 12’x18’ with 2’ overhangs on each end. I can get right at 21’ feet with the rails I have so I am going to do a 16’x 18’ with a 2’ overhang on one side the other side will be up against the cabin.
