    The Thorn looks like it's inspired by the Rolex Air king 1400 + a hint of Datejust. Idk if I like it 🤔but it looks nice on your wrist!

    Nice review! About that 34mm: how many links are ‘fixed’ on the endlinks and not removable? 4 on each end?

    • @AndySTWT
      @AndySTWT  2 дня назад

      You are correct 4 in each side

    I'm into that Thorn. Maybe they will make a V2 that on which the "exploration road" text can be omitted.

    How’s the thickness on the thorn? Looks surprisingly thick for how small it is

    • @AndySTWT
      @AndySTWT  Месяц назад +1

      It is actually 11.9 mm

    • @AndySTWT
      @AndySTWT  Месяц назад +2

      And in person does not look thick because 2 mm are from the domed sapphire crystal

      Does the bracelet taper at all? Does it go from 19mm down to 16mm at the clasp?

    I'm not intending to knock homages but I can't see the point in owning one. You're constantly reminded that you havn't got the real thing. In some ways homages are like a movie prop. Another thing is that when you examine them up close they fall down in various ways like screw down crowns that are not smooth or poorly fitting bracelets.

      Michael, you make a great point. I think homages are an excellent way to start getting to know watches. They’re perfect for wearing in situations where you might not want to wear the real thing whether that’s in risky environments, during manual labor, on vacations, or similar occasions. They’re also a great option if you want to try out a style or size to see if it suits your wrist or lifestyle before committing to the real deal.
      Sometimes, the real thing might simply be out of reach financially and that’s okay. Or, maybe you just don’t want to spend that kind of money on a watch and that’s perfectly fine too. Homages offer an accessible and practical alternative without the pressure of maintaining or insuring a high value or vintage piece.

      Very true. When I started work in 1980 aged 17 you could buy a Rolex submariner for £360 about 3 weeks wages. Even if I was a millionaire I wouldn't buy a Rolex as I think they're now way overpriced.

      Eh.. I have Omegas, Montblanc, TAG, MIDO and some more Swiss watches. I'm much more inclined in wearing my San Martin lately. Don't really care anymore what people think. It's way too much value for the money when compared to "established" brands. I feel my San Martins have better or superior quality than the Oris that cost over $1k more. And you also avoid the expense of maintenance, if the watch breaks, you swap the whole movement which are usually very robust, mostly Seiko NH35..

      The only reason why not having "the real thing" would bother you is because of personal insecurities. The part about quality not being the best on a lot of homages is valid however. I know for a fact that a lot of the watches from some of the more "expensive" aliex brands are built and finished well enough that they would realistically sell for far more if they were made in European countries. You can't exactly expect perfect build quality and QC for $100, although, you're already getting way more for that money in the Chinese market compared to pieces made by European, Japanese or US brands. I'd say most Chinese watches(from reputable brands) have their sweet spot around $200-300, where the fit and finish is top tier most of the time.

      Depends on the size of your wrist. I wear 36mm often and my wrist size is 7.5 inches. I have a few white dial 36mms and I wish they were a little smaller because the white dial makes them appear bigger than they are.
