Regarding the birth control pill scene. It wasn't that the doctor was naïve, it was actually illegal to sell birth control to unmarried women until 1972 when the Supreme Court ruled that unmarried women had the same rights as married women.
Glad to see a channel starting this show. It's one of the best shows of all time to me, up there with The Sopranos. It's a slow burn at first but if you stick with it by the end of the first season you'll be sad every time an episode ends.
I agree it’s one of the greatest shows ever made. It never changes it’s pace though it’s always on the slower side but that’s why it’s so detailed and well written
Still my personal favorite show of all time. High quality through all the seasons and it has so much depth. Every time I rewatch it I pick up on new things.
Ahhhhh, Mad Men. You are in for a suave, sophisticated ride, my friends. This is up there with West Wing for my favorite TV shows. I envy anyone who gets to watch it for the first time and doesn't have to wait so long for the next season.
Just gonna say as you make your way through this series - which I loved - that the finale does not disappoint. I look forward to watching this series again with you two.
I am SO excited!! I just watched your reaction to Philsopher's Stone and I really enjoyed your commentary and came to your channel to see if you'd done the next one or not and I see Mad Men reactions?! I've never seen anyone react to it and it is my FAVOURITE show! I finally forced my brother to watch the whole thing with me again last year (my 10th or so time re-watching) and he loved it. So excited for this journey for you!!
Sloooooooow burn of a start. I know others have said it, but it is so worth it. Every season covers roughly 9-15mos., leaving each episode to cover a month or less of that year. Always moving forward, like a slow freight train ready to crush all their lives, hopes and dreams, one by one.
You have great thematic insights for a first-time view. People selling themselves in a parallel world from the America that does not exist? A main theme or two well caught
"Mad Men" is a quality piece of TV, but it is SLOW, in the best way, but not a lot of people can live with it. 4:28 Don talking with the waiter was a good start. 5:05 Rosemarie DeWitt 6:00 The elevator scene makes me cringe. As a father of daughters I want to punch them all out. 6:30 Joan! She is one of the best parts of the show. She owns every scene she is in the entire run of the season. 7:09 Sal... 7:27 There are a lot of times I would gladly run Pete Campbell over with a truck. 8:21 That doctor...I mean he is helping but he could do without the remarks. What an s stain... 8:25 Maggie Siff as Rachel was another terrific character. 9:03 The Lucky Strike folks are such an insane bunch...Lee Jr. is a royal sleeze... 9:50 "It's Toasted" is brilliant... 10:25 I thought highly of Don when he did this, but it wasnt out of nobility. He doesnt like little girls is all... 11:45 Peggy and Pete...Pete doesnt deserve ANY of the women he is with... 12:25 The reveal as a family man who is a skeeze WAS great. The whole show is very very very good, but again, its a slow burn. There are moments where I would get up and yell at the TV and there are moments of total cringe. Its worth the trip for it all.
@@watchthiswithjoeandkevin6 Those characters grow and change over the course of the 10 year period that follows. They dont stay douche bags, the evolution of the personalities and growth all the characters go through is the best thing about it.
7:40 - well, that's the grown up world: sometimes you have to spend time and work with people you dislike. You deal with it. Either try to establish better relationship with "problem" person or just stick to being a professional and any "over the line" actions should be reported to the boss. (mean words/opinions don't really count)
Your reaction was good overall. I was just kinda annoyed by the editing. It felt abrupt and the scenes weren't allowed to play out entirely the way I would've liked.

Yeah. But that was a cover your ass line. He obviously knew she wasn't married

I'm so glad more people are finally reacting to Mad Men! Subscribed.

We are obviously just starting, but this is a well-crafted show with a talented cast.

Easily one of the fifteen best shows I’ve ever watched 💯

how the actual fuck did they call sal being gay in his first scene?! incredible gaydar
Jon Hamm was hilarious in Bridesmaids. Also everyone smoked and the misogyny was off the charts
He's a fabulous comic actor. Re: The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

We plan on doing the entire series.

The women are pretty much in control all through the series. Miss that and you missed everything.
I still remember the shock when they showed he was married with kids lol
Mad Men is amazing. You guys could use better lighting and background.

Yeah, that elevator scene showed how gross and entitles these junior executives are.

You're right, of course. Still, just brutal.
The naivete of these fellas is almost amusing

selling the fallacy of the American dream...lol
Such a tremendous pilot!
Clips are too short to understand what is going on, esp. for those of us who watched 10+ yrs ago.
Yeah, it's a common problem with reaction videos but they're in a bind because if they show much more it gets taken down for copyright violation.
We understand. Unfortunately, RUclips doesn't mess around with copyright enforcement.

I tried to start this show 3 times, couldn't get past episode 4. It's just not going anywhere...
I did the same thing with Peaky Blinders. Just couldn't get into it. We shall see!
