- We go out today for a trip to do a spot of fishing at the canals and trying out the smallest lure I have used, the 4.5 gram Grim Reaper.
Warm up first with the 25 gram chrome Grim Reaper before dropping down to 4.5 gram with really small hooks.
I am catching kahawai in this video and they definitely put up a good fight on light tackle.

How exciting Mike.... no bait! Very successful little try out on them lures crazy how they eating the whitebait similar colour to that silver lure! Good job Mike.. heya Rubba💞💞
No bait, didn't loose any sinkers and got a feed, even for the ngeru and kuri had some Lisa 🙂
You do know the dioxin levels there are very high. Personally iI wouldn' be hanging out anywhere near those canals let alone eat any kai from there. But great fishing
The regional council have done a great job mitigating the canal issues and that waterway is looking really good compared to what it used to be like. I'm more concerned about the spraying my secret puha patches in that area.🙂
Tarawera is the black drain river and way worse where this falar Mike is fishing and we still eat the Kahawai from there for years where been fishing there 💯💪🏽👌🏽
What an awesome little fishing spot Mike, those Grim Reaper Lures are pure fire mate!!

Awesome slay up bro with the small lures 👌can see why they go for them when you showed what was in their gut
Never thought I would enjoy this sort of fishing bro using small lures. Been putting this rod to good use lately and haven't bought bait in months.🎣
Was there a few years back and that hole mouth just in front of floodgates was loaded with ky & Trevs
It's looked fishable for ages, always used to check it out when I'm foraging in the area
Glad to see grim reaper doing lighter lure( suits my existing setup)👍
Dean told me they got a lot of different sizes, these smaller ones are perfect for this sort of fishing. The heavier ones I flick into the pampas on the other side of the bank
