thanks for this!!! we do a lot of workouts like this at practice! i’m so excited for cross country season! this year i wanna break 23 for my 5k. my personal best is 23:11😁
Hey Evan (or anyone really), do u have any advice on dealing with heat? I know it’s gonna be hot in cross country season and I wanna do off season training for that, but it’s draining, so besides perhaps building your way up to that, is there any other ways to deal with heat, or is slow progression the only way?
Yeah build up your mileage but run in the middle of the day. So for the first time or few times just run like 2 miles but at like 1 pm. Then just build from there
Yes what he said will help. My 2 recommendations would be to start putting electrolytes in your water if you havent already, and to start consistently using a sauna if you have one available at a gym or something. This will help you build heat resistance. Also during the fall when it gets a little cooler, always run with a hoodie on for extra heat resistance training (unless it’s a very hot day for the fall or winter)
Middle school coach, at this level its a HUGE diversity with the team, being that I have runners from 11-13. Body difference, stride difference. Of course my smallest runners are the fastest, but endurance? Completely different game. Muscle mass is the largest difference, so I spend 1/3 of the time on leg muscle drills like stair routines and squats. Unless I have seasoned athletes, I'm usually starting from scratch with new runners each year. I lose most of my 7th and 8th grade runners to football the next year. I do my best to accommodate my top runners, but as I'm the only coach for 20+ kids, I still need to maintain supervision of my team as a whole, and that is the biggest challenge on the course.
One Josh McDougal , he was amazing back on the early 2000s and college, but I talked to him at a big Jr Olympic meet and he told me the majority of all his intervals where done on hills, wether it be 400s ,8s or whatever. And yeah he was pretty damn good
Hi Evan, I want to thank you for being a massive inspiration for me and while i'm definitely not as good at running as you i've been trying to improve my skill at running and now am usually doing 2.5-3 miles every day or 2 days, and am maybe going towards a 5:50 or 5:40 mile as i go into 8th next year, thank you.
What’s up Evan, I’ve been watching you for a good month and I finally subscribed. You are a great runner and I want to be like you. I’m just entering 8th grade for my first cross country season. What should my mileage be per week? How long will my transformation take? How do I workout my calves? Lastly, what should my mile pace be for a 2 miler? I have been watching all of your workout and running videos. I have been doing your core workouts( my abs hurt ). Maybe if you see this, can you please respond I need the information. - have a great day, Conner
I have my weekly mileage at 10 miles and I do the 800m repeats and 54321 interval runs once a week. I fit the core workouts in and I eat protein bars after every workout
That’s around what I am going to do, I ran with you in the Carolina distance carnival btw, my best mile this season was right at yours with it being a 4:43. But anyway keep up the good work I was just seeing what other ninth graders like me are running for mileage this summer

I myself am planning on getting top 3 in my state this year but I don’t know how it will turn out. This helped though so thank you for that W video.
800 repeats are something I do usually. The intervals are something that I think would be good and I’m definitely gonna try that one.
You got it 👊
Hi Evan, I am going into High School and I was wondering how many miles I should run a week to train for a sub 18 minute 5K?
My cross country season starts in 3 ish weeks. The runs are very short, like about a mile. What workouts do you recommend for the 3 weeks I have left?
we just started last week I'm in Canada so thanks for this :)
first 😃

Hey thanks for subscribing! First of all, do you have a coach?
I have a coach for my school during the season but I don’t have any off season trainer or anything

any recommendations for daily trainers that can have a lot of mileage on it?
I’m not exactly sure, but I definitely don’t recommend the Hoka Mach 5s 😂
Last cc season we did 8x800 on a hill, it was both of the last two workouts combined 😂
Where do you find an 800 meter hill!?!?
@@Evanrunz well we have a loop that is downhill for the first quarter mile and then uphill it still stinks
Yo we need a mileage vid, what’s your summer Mileage looking like and what’s your highest mileage week?
Starting out low and slowly building up to 45 in 6 weeks
