Interesting thing about spider fangs, they’re actually heavily modified from the chelicerae of other arachnids. He mentioned the pedipalps hold the prey still to inject venom, well basal Chelicerae actually are tiny little claws! You can still see them on scorpions. It’s the equivalent of if you didn’t have a jaw and you had 2 tiny little hands to rip apart your food for you and they push the bits in your mouth. :D

There are two types of venom that she uses. One is for defense, causing muscles to seize up. The second is for her prey, or if whatever keeps bothering her doesn't get the hint. If you nudge her, she'll bite, releasing the first. If you apply pressure, as if you're trying to kill her, she'll release the second. Juvenile Black Widows and males have the first venom. The second develops in the females once they're adults. There is also a sister breed. They look like the Black Widow, being shiny black. They lack the hourglass, though. Also, bug bombs/sprays don't work on Black Widows due to their exoskeletons. They're more affected by scent. Lemon oil is effective in running them off. I decided to learn about them since I was bitten 12 times a few years ago, and before that having been bitten at age five. The pain was unreal. A couple of the symptoms doctors look for in bite victims is abdominal pain and fever.

They are noticeable because of their shape, legs, and gloss. Very unique looking spiders. Males have no red, so its a very bad way of identifying them. Plus its on their underside, so its not even easy to spot unless you are behind the web.
@Yuri Lix fr especially female mosquitoes, all they do is drink blood, to reproduce and spread diseases. Unlike the male counterpart, they just chill (because they dont drink blood at all) and even spread pollen.
I actually have two of these puppies, I’ve had one for upwards of a year. They’re actually super chill animals, and I’ve actually handled them. As long as you pose no threat and sort of just act like a stick, they’ll have no reason to attack you and waste venom. Pretty much all widow bites happen out of defence. And yes, I’m fully aware there was still a chance of getting bitten, but I accepted that chance. Black widows bites are almost always non-lethal, unless you have some kind of heart condition that may cause issues.
Can't call it waste venom when they don't use a lot. But yea it is possible to hold them in your hands. Brave Wilderness has video proof of this. No this is not a sponser.
I used to work as a cleaning person at a desolate FedEx warehouse and came across so many black widows there. I caught one in a jar and it got into a ball and pretended like it was dead. a couple of days later I saw it create a web in the jar. eventually I let it go into some plants but it was scary cause it ran out so quick. The biggest black widow I saw there though, was one that was inside a cigarette container. I opened up the lid cause I was trying to clean the interior and I came across the biggest black widow, it was crawling up it's web up toward the light and I closed the lid so quick I never opened it again or got close to that cigarette container again. Gave me the creeps, who knows how long that black widow had been alive in there it was fat, I wouldn't doubt it if there was other little mini ones in there as well.
Fun fact. A black widows bite is actually very similar to a bee sting. It isn't as deadly as we have been led to believe. If you are extremely young, old, or are allergic it can be deadly. But for the most part it isn't deadly.
The arms are called Pedipalps! Or just palps for short. Not only do they help the spider hold prey, but they actually do more than that! They can use them for defense, burrowing, and for a spider’s reproduction! However only male spiders have the thickened pedipalps to transfer the sperm to a female spider. The females still have 2 pedipalps, just a lot thinner than the male’s. I just wanted to info dump what I learned about a spider’s pedipalps :]
If I'm rigth they can control the quantity of it depending of its prey, if its small it will use low quantities of it, but if it's a human it will use everything they have to survive, their venom is the only thing they have to defend themselves.

I've worked in pest control now for 4 years. I've been bitten twice by black widows on two separate occasions. They're not as deadly as people think. First time I went to the E.R. they didn't give me any antivenom because it could have adverse effects. They sent me home and said if I start vomiting and have cold sweats to come back immediately. I went home and had what felt like a mild flu for 3 days. Second time was about the same but a little worse. The muscle pains are what got you the most but still, not terrible.
The webbs I've always encountered are usually low on the ground, very sticky and strong. Ever run through an orchard in the morning dew and find yourself running through a tree spider web? Funny, everyone does a special dance when breaking through it😂
Hiya south Texas here, we got tons of these and similar species. Their webs make a loud snap when you break em. Their venom is still bad jus not as deadly as we used to think. More people get injured trying to kill them than being bit.
Black Widows are quite docile and will not come after you to bite you. They only bite when forced to. Like when you squeeze them. I live in Mexico, and they're all over the place here. I respect them, but I do not fear them.
Dw tho, they actually don’t bite all that often. They only bite when threatened, scared, hurt, or if you touch its web, then it’ll think your a bug and quickly run to the prey bite it and run back (or hold it in place till it’s dead) this DOES NOT mean you should go actively seek them out to go pick them up or anything. (Please, don’t be like me. Picking up anything and everything💀)

When you play with fire, you will eventually get burned.
Fuck that
😳
Fun fact. A black widows bite is actually very similar to a bee sting. It isn't as deadly as we have been led to believe. If you are extremely young, old, or are allergic it can be deadly. But for the most part it isn't deadly.

No me staring at the ceiling and praying that no spider ever falls onto my face
The arms are called Pedipalps! Or just palps for short. Not only do they help the spider hold prey, but they actually do more than that! They can use them for defense, burrowing, and for a spider’s reproduction! However only male spiders have the thickened pedipalps to transfer the sperm to a female spider. The females still have 2 pedipalps, just a lot thinner than the male’s. I just wanted to info dump what I learned about a spider’s pedipalps :]
I find it genuinely amazing how a tiny creature like that can wipe out something 50x bigger than itself.
Why do they even need that much of an op venom
If I'm rigth they can control the quantity of it depending of its prey, if its small it will use low quantities of it, but if it's a human it will use everything they have to survive, their venom is the only thing they have to defend themselves.
@@Kelquir And even all that venom isn't enough to kill a healthy adult.
@@Kelquir I may be wrong but I thought that it was for antivenom
So it takes one of the most venomous spiders to match my cooking
Bro that spider fangs looks like snake fangs 💀
As a 193 year old man from India, I can confirm.

Ah So that's how Natasha Romanoff became known as Black widow she was bitten by a black widow spider and became known as the deadliest spider of all time 🥶
No Black Widows were harmed. This one is an actor
"lets take a look at how they inject venom into their pray"
The spider: ☠️
Hard to believe something so small can be so toxic it’s scary
Find me searching my whole room at 2:00 a.m. for black widows now
So basically the black widow nuts every time it injects poison
Fun fact, there hasn't been a death from a black widow since the 80s.
It’s all fun and games until the spider gets up and walks towards you
“These are not fangs”
Me: That’s just what the spider would want you to think
It is venomous
My brain: hi, Venomous
Bruh, even though it's dead, just talking about something that's so small being so lethal gives me goosebumps.
My guess would be the spiders fangs injecting venom
"Look at this black widow spider " see this butane torch?
Incredible to me is how someone can extract the venom glands without destroying them.
That's an extraordinary skill.
I would liken it to disabling an unexploded bomb. Only on a micro scale.
The "Fangs" aren't actually teeth, they are generally classified as a modified pedipalp or arm
When I was little my grandma saw a black widow crawling on the wood we brought inside for our fireplace and she immediately smashed it with her bare hand. Being so young I was absolutely terrified and I thought she was gonna die lmao
I didn't know the spider was upside down till he focused on the actual fangs
Not afraid of a spider at all. I can go up this big boi and slap it, I’ll win. Ain’t no spider giving me its venom. I’m a man, and more than just Spider-Man.
A spider in a tiny jar would look super cool as a pendant on a necklace
I saw one of these lil dudes strolling around on my back patio at night last night. I now have a fear of my entire backyard whenever I go out there at night. I’ll be thinking they are everywhere!
So THAT's how he became Spider-Man
Spiders scare me the most, makes me soo uncomfortable but why tf am I still watching it ?
the struggle to get it out of the vial was unintentionally pretty funny 😂
No matter how I look at it Insects just seems to be alive and jump out at me in sec.
Bro's voice at the end was starting to sound like he was experiencing the symptoms and making a video on it before he died 💀
Coyote - I'm about to be bitten by a black widow spider
Mate, Imagine your most venomous spider being a black widow😂😂😂😂😂
I've worked in pest control now for 4 years. I've been bitten twice by black widows on two separate occasions. They're not as deadly as people think. First time I went to the E.R. they didn't give me any antivenom because it could have adverse effects. They sent me home and said if I start vomiting and have cold sweats to come back immediately. I went home and had what felt like a mild flu for 3 days. Second time was about the same but a little worse. The muscle pains are what got you the most but still, not terrible.
Black widows are rarely fatal for humans.
"Oh hi venomouussss"
As a plumber, who very regularly has to crawl underneath houses, I ask… why tf am I still watching this🤣
I'm pretty sure you can surgically remove the venom glands from spiders
The webbs I've always encountered are usually low on the ground, very sticky and strong. Ever run through an orchard in the morning dew and find yourself running through a tree spider web? Funny, everyone does a special dance when breaking through it😂
Me that has a fear of spiders: Oh great.. Not spiders again...
The future of me that has no fear of spiders: I'm not scared!
Hiya south Texas here, we got tons of these and similar species. Their webs make a loud snap when you break em. Their venom is still bad jus not as deadly as we used to think. More people get injured trying to kill them than being bit.
"this is how the black widow injects it's venom"
[Me, thinking it will be different to other spiders]
"it's injected through the fangs"
👁️👄👁️
I'm not afraid of spiders, i'm afraid of his bite.
I was wondering if this spider would have bitten Peter Parker then there would not have been any Spiderman
I'm fascinated yet deeply scared by this spider.
The black widow spider gives you the Taco Bell virus
Black Widows are quite docile and will not come after you to bite you. They only bite when forced to. Like when you squeeze them. I live in Mexico, and they're all over the place here. I respect them, but I do not fear them.
A black widow was crawling on my hand when I was like 4 or 5…I screamed so loud I can’t even scream today.
*chills went down my spine* I thought, “Wait..What the F is on my back?!”😂😂
Dw tho, they actually don’t bite all that often.
UPS driver came in with a huge raw looking hole in his leg, he said he was bitten by a black widow. apperently the flesh around the bite was rotting away. "Looked awefull".😮
*the guy that eats spiders*: oh so that’s why I am not allowed to leave the hospital
