Killer machine. I'm also impressed at how quiet the cab is. When you run or work for a land clearing company, that cab is your office. There's good reason modern equipment has all the creature comforts. More comfort = more time in the operator's seat before fatigue sets in.

Manzanita, primary fuel for a fast travelling fire. The manzanita burns high and hard and ladders it right up into the pine canopy. Once that happens in windy conditions, there is no fighting it. A friend of mine in malobu Canyon had a house with a swiming pool acting as a surge tank for a high volume sprinkler system. He still lost the house because the wind borne manzanita embers went right over the "wet zone" and his own landscaping burned back into the house. People out in the subrban areas that live along the brush areas need to learn more than stop, drop and roll..... A weekend spent learning fire safe practices on the cal fire website can save a lot of misery.
Or buy a dozer.. I am kidding of course even though I did but I live in south alabama big fires aren't common because it's so wet. What a job it must be to fight fires out there!
I know a guy in central ca that runs one of those prime tech 300s. He runs a tracked chipper paired with it in areas where he’s going to take down a bunch of trees. The masticator or mulched will take down the tree and the tracked chipper with grapple arm then chips it. Saves a bunch of time versus the mulched trying to chip up the tree.
One of these just cleared a big piece of land near the high way where I live. At least a 500 foot by 500 foot piece of land. The machine then sat by the road for about a month. I'm guessing until they needed it at their next job. Plus I'm sure it was good advertising. I had never seen anything like it.
Saw one of these parked along I-29 between Omaha, NE and Kansas City, Mo and you could just see the path of work. Crazy machine! And LOL love the doggo in the cab. Assuming he's there to supervise making sure the bigger trees are saved to pee on LOL
Man that thing is sick!!! I’m trying to get more into this work I live up in not cal foot hills and just got a brand new cat 299 D3 xe and man the toughest part is figuring out how to get the work
Back in early 2000s we called these things hydro-axes. We would rough take them centerline for road and they could mow down 60' right of ways off centerline faster than we could give it to them. We kind of dreaded them because we had to work faster than them, which was impossible. 2008, 2009 housing crash happened and it has not gone as fast since. We are due for another boom. Keep them maintained and we will race you again.
He did an impeccable job I love how he explained and he gave in-depth information priceless priceless video I want one of those things I bet you I would make good money
Its amazing how much brush is in there and what it takes to get it knocked down. I can remember doing that stuff as a teen with hand tools man that was hard work. These new machines are just awesome. I really hope the costs continue to come down on the equipment so it becomes far easier and more affordable for land owners to do this!! Nice work👍
Watched this because they are mulching at the hunting club and I wanted a little background information. They used the kubota skid steer but some of the steep terrain they cleared is almost unwalkable but they drove in and out like it was nothing! In Alabama, 12 foot pines 4 to 6 feet apart, steep and rocky! They may not have finish mulched it nearly as close because of rocks but I was impressed!
That machine is amazing. I did wildland fire 20yrs or so ago. Did a fire in SoCal, cut manzanita 15ft tall with a 20 man crew. That stuff kills saw chains, super hard, so it was more amazing to watch this machine rip thru it. I am looking into starting a business doing this. Can you please tell us what you charged for this job. It would help figure things. Per acre or something. Thanks and keep up the good work.
You'd pick up the speed by over 60%, that's a great idea. Yep if you could just loop around like with a bush-hog and never have to stop and back up, it would certainly be something the forestry service should look into.
Its one way of dealing with brush fire fuel, mulches it then tills it into the ground, Its that or the land owners have to do spot controlled burns to get shot of the brush, looks as though it has a decent winch on the back if you need work a really steep slope.
@Vbelt, you mentioned that you guys had to put a rush on this job because you were getting into the dry season. My question is, does mulching season overlap with prescribed fire season, not that California allows much of a window for prescribed fire. As a side note, does CalFire contract mulchers on active fire?
@@VBELTandSON That makes sense, hot machines, rocks, and dry fuels could lead to a pretty big liability. If you could get a fire contract you could probably buy a couple of those monsters, and make the hand crews lives a lot easier to boot. Stay safe on those slopes, and thanks for the fast response.
I don't see any use having a huge machine like that if you have to sharpen it like a small one 4 times a day..... a two barrel team where one barrel is being sharpened whilst the other is working on a smaller cheaper machine seems better $$/time management!!! Maybe if it had a wider barrel (triple width) with a bigger diameter that would decrease load on sharpening but the barrel would need to be hollow, less weight.
This machine is equal to 10 skid steers. Only one transport, one operator, one set of carbides and zero need to stop production and sharpen knives. Also a skid steer will not go where this machine was running.
