  • This is a long video on how to do a short term or long term repair the Fusible Links on a 80-90's Nissan D21 truck or Pathfinder. I'm sure it applies to most Nissan's of that era. I take you from how to find out if it's bad to how to carefully pull it apart and fix it with new Fusible Link wires or temporary wires of the same gauge.
    The wires I used in this video are temporary and should NOT be used long term. The reason is not that the gauge is wrong, it's that the jacket is NOT designed to hold the fire and melted wire internally. IF you don't use the correct fusible link wires the jacket can catch on fire when it melts and theoretically catch something else on fire in the engine compartment. So change it as soon as practical. Also monitor them for signs of over heating until you can change them out.
    The video is long so just skip through the parts to the ones you want to see. You can buy complete wired units on eBay or the dealer if you can find the part number.
    The part number for the 1995 Nissan D21 or Pathfinder is 2402201G00.
    Thanks to a astute comment from RUclipsr "Kenabi", who informed me about Color Coded Fusible Link wires. So I looked them up, I now know about them, and I'm passing the information on to you.

    Part 1 of the video on how I discovered it is here; studio.youtube...
    ***** Note ***** that NISSAN in 1995 did NOT follow these color codes so you will have to determine on your own what fusible link amperage you need, then order it, Note the color will be different from what the vehicle originally came with since Nissan did NOT use the same color code as used today. It is my recommendation that you just replace it with the correct fusible link as soon as possible.

    I had this problem after I rebuilt the engine, damn near drove myself crazy. After talking to an old Nissan mechanic and seeing this video I was able to pinpoint the problem thanks to the two of you. Part is on it's way!!

      Until the part arrives you can use some crimp on wire spades and bypass the harness. Just don't forget to replace them when they come in because they are "Fusible Links". Check the video description and you can download the Factory Service Manual. The EL section is for the electrical. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

    God bless you Keith.
    My exceptionally reliable 1993 D21 surprised me the other day. I jumped in to go but everything was dead. The battery was at 3 volts. I was pocking around the positive post "rats nest" and did not see anything obvious until I unplugged that fuseable link thingie. The inside was so badly corroded I can't believe it worked for so long. I found the OEM replacement part on eBay and will get it in about ten days.
    Thank you so much for the helpful video.

      Oh you're welcome Mossback, It took me a few hours to find mine but I have years of experience working on cars and electronics. I knew if this threw me for loop for a few hours it was going to take someone without experience a long time or have to pay a ton of money to pay a mechanic to find and fix it. So I made it just for folks like you. Glad it helped you out. Best way to thank me is subscribe and ring the bell, if no bell that's ok I understand. I'll take all the help I can get the grow my channel. Thanks for watching and the thanks, I appreciate it. Feel free to ask for help anytime. Best Wishes & Blessings to you too. Keith Noneya

      Note that these are fusible links and the repair is temporary until you can get a real one. If you search "Nissan fusible link" on ebay and enter your year the correct one should come up. They don't cost much either. Glad the video helped you. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

    Why can't you just bypass the fusible links & straight wire it? What's gonna happen? A lot less headache.

    • @keithnoneya
      @keithnoneya  Год назад

      Hi Vonda the Fusible Links actually serve a purpose in that they are designed to burn up and be easily replaced if you get a short in those lines. This although will work the wires I chose might actually catch fire where if I had used the Nissan Fusible Links that possibility is a lot less likely. I used those wires because I needed that Pathfinder the next day and could purchase the correct Fusible Links later. So I do recommend that you replace them later with the correct part if you do this patch to get your truck running. Great question, I hope I answered it for you. Thanks for watching. SIR! I need your help. The fusible link that you're working on is present on my battery but it is snipped off shortly after. There is only about a quarter inch of the green and black wires present. There is nowhere for these wires to attach to, and I am super confused. I have two random wires connected to the positive terminal along with the thicker gauge wires. I have a feeling that those two wires are supposed to attach to the black plastic piece that you ultimately connected the black and green wires to. But I don't know fore sure. Please help!!

      Take a picture of it or post a video so I can see what you're talking about, then we can go from there. Also in the description below I give a link to where you can down load the Factory Service Manual for your NISSAN. You need to down load the EL section when you get to the download page. You may have to join the forum but it's free. You should be able to find the wore colors to tell you where they go. You can send the pictures to me at the email I use for RUclips, keith_noneya@att.net I'll look at them and let you know what I think. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

    What is name of the 3 red wires. When I put in terminal fusible link. Just the black and green wires come up. Thanks!

    • @keithnoneya
      @keithnoneya  10 месяцев назад

      Try these; www.ebay.com/itm/166175114317 They are fusible links too. You could go to the dealer and get a part number for them. If it costs to much then do a search for that part number on eBay or the internet. If you can't find them look in the video description after you find the wire gauge and use the link to the Factory Service Manual and see if it lists the amps for that link. Then look in the description for the link to the Fusible Link wires and build one. Worst case just use wires the same size and replace them if they're bad. Be warned though if something goes wrong the makeshift may not blow and you could end up with a fire in the engine bay. If you go that route it's on you if something goes wrong. I hope that gives you some options to look at. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

    What do you suggest when female connectors are burnt and corroded really bad???

    • @keithnoneya
      @keithnoneya  Год назад

      If you can replace the connector with some on line that's great, if not try and repair them like in the video or try heading to the wrecking yard and cut some off a vehicle there. The last option is to remove the connector shells and just use some insulated Crimp Connectors. Try the Yellow Male/Female option with this link; www.ebay.com/itm/145046227706

    So I just accidentally reversed my battery cables, saw some smoke.
    My 93 nissan d21 still starts! BUT and a big but---- all my lights including brake and tail lights (accept headlights) are non operable!
    I checked all fuses and it seems like nothing else blew out. I'm really just not sure what may have happened because it seeks most of the time when the fusable link goes out, the vehicle no longer runs. Anyone have any advice for me?

      You can get a FREE! Complete Factory Service Manuals if you join the NICO CLUB.
      *** After you create an account and password. ***
      [ Then select "Service Manuals" on the right of the header, then on the left in Red, select "Nissan Factory Service Manuals" Link here: www.nicoclub.com/ download the EC section for your year. you might be able to figure out what fried. That should get you in the right direction. More than likely you fried some of the inside fuses under the left side of the dash, just to the left of the steering wheel.
      I would also check those fusible links connected directly to the battery, and the pull out fuse I shown in part 1 at time index 1:55 here: ruclips.net/video/A51r0wbxV-o/видео.html
      Hope that points you in the right direction. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

    Why not buy new wire harness.

    • @keithnoneya
      @keithnoneya  3 года назад

      I fully agree with you, It's the best option for sure. However if you need your vehicle fixed right now, like some folks in remote Alaska I knew, it will get your vehicle moving. Personally I needed the vehicle the next day so my son could drive back to college. So this is a great stop gap to get your vehicle rolling. If you use this stop gap make sure you use the same gauge wire as you take off and it will work. I never changed them out and it's still working. Check out the Description below the video, I have some links on how to find the correct replacements. Thanks for watching. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

      Where would I be able to buy a new wire harness?

  • @kenabi
    @kenabi 4 года назад +2

    this is... not advisable. all of those wires that are in those two plugs are fusible links, and you can buy the bare wire in sufficient lengths from most auto parts stores. the colors are the ratings, and use the same length.
    by using regular wire in place of them for anything but (maybe) an emergency run to get you _to_ said parts store, you run the risk of blowing the ecu or other components if you have a fault in the system that took out those fusible links. if you have a fault later on, this mod will give any shorts a direct path to your ecu.
    if you want to quick and dirty it, you can get fusible links in the square plastic bodies ( J case fusible links) and replace the existing fusible links with wire that has spade terminals on the ends (remember to color code!). it would be a bit ugly, but it would keep the protections from the fusibles.
    straight runs are bad mojo.
