Very helpful. What is the chance that this o ring alone is the culprit and not the y pipe itself or the other o ring in the opposite fitting? With respect to time, I'm hoping I can change this o ring and keep the y pipe in reserve. Great video!
For me the ring fixed it. The rubber ring is the softer material so it deforms over time. It is most likely the problem. In my experience The y pipe usually fails by cracking when it fails
I just found this same leak that I have to fix, but I have a more serious issue that I need answers for! I have a 2014 f150 and I am having a electrical issue. First the radio display did not come on after picking up some lunch and the radio sounded like it was on AM. I checked the fuse, it was good, after I put it back in the display worked. Later that night, the lights kind of flickered going down the road. I stopped at a corner store, then headed back down the road. I hit a crack in the road and the whole truck shut off for a couple of seconds then came right back on. This is a worrying issue for me, this is my only mode of transportation. It is a STX super crew 5.0 liter. Please, if you can give me any information on what might be the problem it will be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you
@@woodyrevels8048 it sounds like it's a bad ground. There are ground cables to the block and to the frame. I'm not sure where exactly but check those connections. I hate having to pay rediculous shop rates when sometimes it's an easy fix. It's just a matter of finding the problem.
@@kerriecroom7562 true! I'm still looking for anything out the ordinary. And just incase I missed something the last time I will check those grounds again. Thanks brother
The part number is at the end of the video. That part was the one the dealership sold my buddy for his f150. For my truck I used one out of a kit of assorted rings. I just held the old one up to the new one to get the right size. I don't remember the size. I believe it is 4mm thickness and 37mm inside diameter for the upper one and 4mm thick 31mm inside diameter for the lower one
Couldn’t help but notice the green coolant. Newer fords need red or orange coolant due to the aluminum blocks. Just an FYI to those do it your selfers.
I use green because that was what was in the truck when I purchased it. My understanding is that either are fine but the green and orange shouldn't be mixed together. I also think that the orange is supposed to last longer
Or less. I replaced O rings on both sides but now leaking again, 1 month later, on thermostat side. Can't decide whether to get another oem plastic ford part or dorman aluminum replacement y connector
Jake Gandy great, well i just got done doing mine in like 10° weather and snow storm starting. Got O ring from dealer motocraft for 13.95 plus tax. pricey piece of rubber. hopefully it lasts longer than a month or a year. probably better order more. lol. Thanks for reply dude.
@@daveaffolter9697 thanks for the quick reply woke up Thursday morning with a giant puddle underneath my truck and then my brother woke up this morning to a puddle underneath his truck must be a common issue
Very common. They usually go bad after you take them apart and put them back together. It's strange that both yours and your brothers started leaking at the same time
@@daveaffolter9697 yeah I have a 2016 and he has a 2013 we both started them up and let them run for a little bit and it seemed to go away but it probably will come back and just the other night we had a really big cold snap so that probably did it in. @@BIGTRUCK7.3 the first time, I took mine to a reputable shop to replace the water pump. When it started leaking I realized instead of replacing the o rings, they tried to put gasket in there. When that water pump failed (after about 100k miles) I replaced it myself
I have a 2013 F150 and have what appears to be leaks on both sides of T. Replacing the Oring on the hose from top of radiator to Y looked fairly simple-what about Oring on Thermostat side. Does the Y connector need to come out to access ORing or is there a simpler way?
I just had a coolant leak on my 2013 Mustang GT on this same hose n Ford Dealer does not sell the o-ring. They wanted to sell me the hose for $90. O’Reilly has the o-ring kit for $15
I hope you have it fixed. I wasn't thrilled when I saw it leaking after the new water pump. It hasn't leaked since I replaced the the o rings. I have had to replace the thermostat recently though
Pretty easy repair. I have to do the lower o Ring on mine now. It has a slow leak. I couldn't tell at first because the top one had a heavy leak so it was all wet

Great I took the wrong one out, I took the plastic one out and it broke..
Thanks! I couldn't find that damn gasket for the life of me. Problem fixed
Great video, made it look so simple👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

SUPER HELPFUL thanks man 🙏
Thank you
Mine started to leak on extremely cold evenings.

I wish I could help you but I have no idea on that. Since it acted up when you hit a bump I would suspect a loose wire somewhere
Did you get this figured out yet? I'd guess loose battery cables.
@@kerriecroom7562 unfortunately no!! Still having a problem with it!! I've checked the battery cables they are tight and clean!

is it really this easy? I just had an estimate of over $400 to replace the hose and T connector!
hmm??? did you have trouble connecting the hose back to the Y connection?
It is a little rough but eventually it went
What size was the o ring

i don’t understand why if it’s an O ring issue why wouldn’t it last with a new O ring in place?

Do you have to drain the coolant when doing this? I just had the same problem happen today
You will want to drain at least some of the coolant to where it is below the level where the o rings are

dorman Part No. 926-168 (this kit includes 3 different o-rings. it's a good idea to replace them all)
Exactly what I needed. Thanks a whole bunch!
