      I think a larger version could be quite useful if it incorporates the attributes that make the Arquitens great. I’m thinking something between the size of the Arquitens and the Victory. Maybe around the size of the Vindicator or Immobilizer. It could be a valuable escort for the ISD if the Empire had smartened up and stopped treating solitary ISDs as the solution to every problem. They could also be useful in systems that don’t warrant a full ISD for patrols. A single small fleet could be based around 1 or 2 Victories as the heavy hitters, ideally with 1 or 2 of my proposed upscaled Arquitens, an Immobilizer, a Ton Falk Carrier, and 3-4 standard Arquitens. Or in even less important systems, pair a couple of standard Arquitens with a single one of the upscaled variant.

    There's one thing I think you get wrong: Technically, the base model Arquitens we see in Clone Wars and Rebels doesn't really even have a docking bay at all. What happens is that in Rebels they dock up to three TIE fighters between the front mandibles of the Arquitens, and those can be dropped off in the middle of a battle. Possibly that was a functionality that was added by the Empire, since most Republic fighters are much less compact. Presumably the "two Lambda shuttles" capacity would be if they docked the Lambdas externally at the airlocks on the sides.
    Moff Gideon's Arquitens is just randomly way bigger than the Arquitens in the rest of the franchise, and even in its episode the scale doesn't really make much sense because the size of the opening that the TIE exits would be too small for a normal Lambda to squeeze into. But I guess a big open hangar was better for starting the fight scene.

    If those had been available (along with their fighter compliments) the CIS leadership, including Dooku, would have never gotten off the ground and the planet would have been blockaded and completely occupied.

      I'd say palpatine pulled strings to not make it a slam dunk for the CIS. If you look at the numbers, the separatists had 60 core ships present, which means there were 60 lucrehulks in orbit. Lets assume the republic could get 5 venators there on top of the 12 acclamators that were present. Even if the CIS had the older, auxiliary lucrehulks, it'd still be a slam dunk for them. Why the CIS didn't crush republic forces could only be explained by manipulation from the sith.

    I never really thought this ship was super great. I always thought the Carrack was just better. The arquintens has average firepower for a ship of its size and is pretty slow. But on the other hand, its pretty cheap to build and is pretty tough.
    The carrack can be specialised based on what role you want it to play. It can be a anti-capitol ship or corvette killer (10 heavy TL, 20 ion Cannons), or it can take on starfighters (10 heavy TL and 20 point defense). Its very fast (keeps up with a lot of starfighters), roughly the same size as the arquintens (longer but more skinny), and can take just as much if not more of a beating. And it has the option to carry 4 starfighters if thats important to you. Both ships have their place though

    • @persuisixh4804
      @persuisixh4804 10 месяцев назад +1

      Arquidents also served as a mobile command ship, had mon cal style shields, and had munition launchers. Someone say versatility?

    • @undraftedboomer5055
      @undraftedboomer5055 10 месяцев назад

      @persuisixh4804 Carrack is just as versatile. It too served as a system patrol vessel, operating on its own. While not stated, its communications and sensor systems were likely comparable or better than that of the arquintens.
      While both ships are relatively old, the arquintens was designed at the start of the clone wars. Whereas the Carrack entered service in the last year of the war, comparable in age to the imperator (ISD). Now both ships got decent upgrades after the clone wars, but the service life of the carrack lasted far longer than the arquintens. (Commonly used by Thrawn and Zsinj in their campaigns)
      Back to my previous comment- when compared to the carrack regarding firepower, the arquintens is basically an imperial customs vessel (imperial coast guard).
      Those concussion missles are powerful, and can launch multiple types. Some can even launch the way better proton torpedoes. But launchers and their misses are quite expensive, and in Starwars, these missles are considered "short range weapons", even when compared to heavier turbolasers... While I don't doubt they can carry capitol ship grade missles, they likely carried the smaller anti-starfighter focused missles. Unless they are in a battlegroup expected to see combat, the anti-starfighter concussion missles were enough to take on Pirates and smugglers.
      The Victory SD switched to ion cannons because the emense cost of concussion missles + more frequent resupplies. Ion cannons are quite effective against enemy Shields. This combined with the raw turbolaser capacity of the Victory (and carrack) makes these ships deadly in a battleship role. (Carrack is more of a corvette killer or a buffer against enemy frigate movements)
      The carrack could have either 20 ion cannons or 20 flak laser cannons. These flak cannons could tackle both starfighters and incoming missle barages, as stated by lore.
      I've never seen anything saying the arquintens has moncal-like-shields. That doesn't mean it's not sturdy, as it had a great reputation in the clone wars for being a quite protective ship (both hull and shields). But the carrack has that reputation too, only it stretched into the Civil War as well. It had probably comparable shielding if not stronger (newer design + larger volume) and honestly a stronger hull. It made dandy use of compartmentalization, with many separate sections including their own life support. Important officials made use of the craft because of its survivability.

What are some of the more unique ways of measuring weight, distance, time, speed, temperature, and so on? Are there any fun cultural quirks that get in the way? And of course, what do these things mean for us?

    • @timpoirier1552
      @timpoirier1552 Год назад +1

      The hyperdrive rating is an inverse scale relative to lightspeed.
      A rating of 1 is equal to lightspeed.
      A rating of 2 would take twice as long to travel the same distance.
      A rating of 0.5 would take half the time.
      Thus when Han says in A New Hope, "She'll make .5 past light speed" hes telling us the Falcon has a class 0.5 hyperdrive.
      Most ships have a backup hyperdrive somewhere in the 10-16 rating.

    • @chrissonofpear1384
      @chrissonofpear1384 Год назад

      @@timpoirier1552 Well, no, not really. No hyperdrive is 'equal to lightspeed'. That would be useless. No-one would ever get anywhere.
      To cover journeys of only weeks across the galaxy takes MILLIONS of times lightspeed.
      To do what films since Rogue One, or even really Revenge of the Sith (Coruscant to Mustafar) imply, in terms of travel, must be tens of millions of times lightspeed - even approaching 100 million.
      And particularly bad in the latest film, maybe.
      But yes, in other regards, most roleplaying game sources do treat it as 'each lower class number is twice as fast'. With the Class 0.5 being into the unofficial 'hotrod' scale.

  • @paulbritt5443
    @paulbritt5443 Год назад +1

    Given the pros and cons of this ship I think I would rather have the c70 charger retrofit of the consoler. It has 5 heavy dual turbo lasers a medium laser cannon or heavy ion cannon, top speed of 1,200 kph and a class 1.5 hyperdrive. It can hold 4,000 metric tons of cargo, only needs 9 crewmen because much of the ship is automated and fi BBC nally it can carry an additional 20 troops or passengers. Did I mention it has 4 escape pods and the luxury escape pod known as the salon pod. The only thing I would change is upgrade the shielding, swap the heavy turbo lasers for light turbo lasers so I can target star fighters and capital ships also. And instead of 20 organic troops I would have 40 BX commando droids after all droids require less space and you don’t have to water or feed them.

    I love the Arquitens, it's one of my favourite ships in all of Star Wars, but there are a few things that bug me about the official stats. First, a slower hyperdrive and slower max acceleration than a Venator? I would've imagined that should be the other way around, since a light cruiser is expected to be faster than a ship of the line, right? If nothing else, the escort ships should be able to at least keep pace with them. Second, it seems like the official sources call the turrets on the dorsal and ventral surfaces the dual guns, and the broadside mounts the quad guns, but looking at the actual CG models used in TCW, the turreted guns are the quad guns, and the broadside mounts seem to be the dual batteries. Especially in shots like the flyby at 3:30.

    • @jrggrop
      @jrggrop Год назад

      Depends on what it was designed to escort. Could be the original role envisioned for it might have been to serve as a "heavy" convoy escort, to beef up the anti-starship capabilities that other escorts like the Charger might be short on. Serving in fleet battles instead of more second line duties might have been the result of it being available in numbers and reliable, rather than it being the ideal fit.

    Huh. Didn't know that the Command Cruiser from Rebels was smaller then the Light Cruiser from the Clone Wars. Wonder if there was a reason for it? Also, the part about the fighters at the beginning was a bit confusing for I thought outside of Gideon's Cruiser such a ship never really had a real dedicated fighter compliment, with only Command Cruisers having the ability to externally dock fighters in the middle of its forward prongs.

    • @chrissonofpear1384
      @chrissonofpear1384 Год назад

      I don't think a fully consistent scale for the Light cruiser exists, yet, @Robert Drexel . The Rebels version was roughly scaled to 325 meters, then down to 237, to my recollection.
      But the class-546 version used by Moff Gideon, is larger still. Maybe as much as 680 meters.
      Though concept art, showed 381, at first.

    The Aaargh-Kittens is one of my favourite ships and I find it really hard to explain why.
    I guess because I always felt the star destroyer is just too big and powerful a threat to be used as the base imperial presence as it so often is. Sure a small rebel cell might be able to avoid and outmanoeuvre an ISD, but the Light cruiser feels like a threat they could outsmart and actually reasonably take on directly.

    In the modern context ship classes from Corvettes up to Destroyers are considered as Escort Ships and ships such as Cruisers up to Aircraft Carriers are considered as Capital Ships so its interesting to me that a cruiser here is considered as a escort ship though during in ww2 many light cruisers were used in a escort role
