I'm still here. Currently my favorite camera I've used and own is the Sony a7iii. As I am mainly a filmmaker, I am very tempted to come over to canon (literally never thought I'd say that).
Great video. Waiting to get my 1Dx. Currently using 5dMk3 with magic lantern. It's fidgety but fun for raw video experiments.
I'm working on my 1DX Mark III video too. And so far, I love this camera. 5.5K 60p RAW, 4K 10Bit 4:2:2 are just awesome. And I love everything internally. As I do a lot of run and gun shooting, I don't really like using an external recorder. Nice Video by the way :)
Thanks so much! You're videos are some of my favorite out there. I also don't like using an external recorded. It is nice to have great internal options. I may end up using the Ninja V on some interviews to record in ProRes LT as it will be better to edit on my 2013 MacPro though haha!
Tyler Edwards Thanks for checking out my channel too. Yes, that’s right. For the long run, it would be nice to use an external recorder. So nice Canon is giving us the clean 10Bit HDMI out option this time. As you know Canon. They used to block that feature and want you to buy more cards 😉

Thanks man! Ya, the omission of HD24p is odd, but it is coming in a firmware update. Having gotten the camera so early, I suspect I will be waiting for a while for that update haha. I am more upset that it doesn't have built in timelapse movie mode like on the 5DIV/EOSR/6DIII though. That would have been a really great tool to have on camera.

Glad to say that I’m upgrading from a Sony A7iii to the 1DX mark iii due to this video (yes in 2022) ! Found a used one in Lausanne Switzerland for a decent price with only 22.000 clic. Can’t wait to shoot some insane 5.5k RAW !

ISO 800. Otherwise, I have the camera set to canon log all the time, but with raw, that is kind of irrelevant 👍🏼

Great video! I also watched the one on the C200. This is very helpful as I'm looking to add a new camera soon. Also, that beach footage and marsh area looks like the East side of Kiawah. Where was it?

Thanks for comparing the footage. Most videos I've seen comparing these cameras is all theory. I get to play with a 1DXiii this week and compare it side by side with my C200. Can't wait especially since I'm looking at adding the 1DXiii as my second camera. Thanks for looking into this as one who is doing much of what I do. Do you find it a problem having limited recording length on the 1DXiii with your weddings?

Thanks Didier! It wasn't all that difficult to match either :) Appreciate the comment on the lighting too. The key was the Aputure 120DII in the light dome mini ii and then diffused through a 4x4 1/2 grid cloth. The practical in the back was an RGB light that I gaffe taped to the cabinet and then the kicker was the godox sl-60w with a 1/4 CTO. If you were wondering haha

Thanks for the great video! Have you noticed any of what they call "oil spills" in your camera? It's the lubricant on the mirror mechanism spilling onto the sensor when you fire off the 16fps mechanical burst mode.

Enjoyed, thanks for posting. Very pleased to see the RAW comes with the same gamut as the C200 & works with the c-log2 camera lut in FCPX. Contrary to other reports, the 120p HD looks fine to me!
The RAW encoding was a big question of mine when I pre-ordered and I was very relieved to see that it is the same as the C200.C500ii and that my C200 RAW LUTs work perfectly on the 1DX RAW haha. The 120p looks great to me too and upscales to 4K quite nice, but based on early testing, it definitely needs to be exposed properly. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!

I was looking at this camera as a B-cam as well. I also run a C200. I need a gimbal cam. For me, I think at this point it makes more sense to by a C200b for $4k. I would’ve gone with the R5 If it was reliable.

Great video! Would you say there's improved DR and sharpness compared the Mark II? My favourite camera of all time is the 5D Mark II!
Thanks man! I appreciate you watching. I'm assuming you're talking about video between the two cameras? If so, yes the DR is improved due to having Log and 10-bit color depth. As for sharpness, that is to be determined, but I am going to be making a comparison video of the two cameras in the near future :)
thanks for sharing the info bro i love the 1D series from Canon, i am in to cinematography from past 8 years and my first camera was 550D and later its 70D and next was 1Dx mark2 for its dual pixel auto focus i didn't even buy the 5D camera though i loved working on it for more than 100 projects, i just saved my money and bought 1dx Mark2, and even today i shot a project with it i love working with 1DX mark2 and now i am waiting for my 1DX mark 3, i was just waiting for canon to keep it internal 10bit and they made it, Thanks to canon, canon really doesn't loose their family who trust them, and i have a small doubt bro if you can write it, as you mentioned this 1Dx mark 3 got 10Bit 4:2:2 in 120 fps in HD, does it mean full Hd 1920 or Hd 720?

Thanks for your thoughts and insides about this. I am also using the C200 and I am very much into a B-cam. Using the C100 MKII at the moment (and 6D Mark II for stills and as 3rd if needed) but definitely want to upgrad to have everything in 4K 60p if needed. Thought about the 1DX Mark III but not sure about this. I am waiting now for the EOS R5. Once it's fully teasered. I will decide, which of the ones will fit better. At the moment it seems ti be the EOS R5... but we will see:-)

I had a chuckle when you mentioned you were spruced up for an interview. Your shirt could have been ironed??? I enjoyed the video and as a pro myself I would love to get one of these cams. I have the A7R3 now but Its too small. I pimped it out with matt box and cage but its hard to turn up to a $5000 shoot with what looks like a toy.

Thanks! At this point, it is hard to tell as I haven't done much side-by-side with the two cameras, but I plan on making a full comparison video in the future. I really would like to wait for DaVinci Resolve to support the 1DXIII CRM files before comparing the two cameras in RAW.
What lens were you shooting with?
What's funny is that so many people are getting hung up on the shape of cinema cameras its getting quite silly. In one of the BMPCC4K groups I joined on Facebook, members are hoping that the next BM camera will be shaped like a RED or ARRI. As if the "shape" of the camera has anything to do with features. But, some claim its because of the form factor that they feel better about adding accessories to a box shaped camera. Why? So they can look like they own a RED when its actually another brand? I don't know. I've had no problems rigging my P4K to shoot for movies.
The point is, no matter how amazing the Canon 1DX mkiii is, there will be people out there who want it only if it's shaped like a box. Weird, man.
I hear ya Todd. I believe each of those form factors have their place depending on the production, budget, and shooting style. That's why you see many more C300/C500 Mark II's and FS7/5/X9 in the documentary space than RED/Arri and vice versa for narrative work. Agreed that many people don't understand form factor and just want to look cool lol. Thanks for watching sir!

I think Ted Sim put it pretty well when describing the "look" of the 1DX: it's use in high-quality RUclips video has made it one of the looks we expect in high quality RUclips content. Shoot to format!

Ya you need to download the raw plugin for fcpx on canons website. It is on the product support page for the 1DXIII

All I heared about the 1DX Mark III until now was , that it only provies Clog (1). Even in RAW. But you seem to have Clog2. I looked on the TecSpecs on the Canon page and it also says Clog. Was there an update?
No update. Since raw isn’t clog anything until it is encoded in an NLE, my guess is they decided to encode as clog2 to maximize dynamic range when loaded in fcpx. If you use the DPP app, it encodes as clog1 still.

try to use more light in a situation like this, it was a little bit dark. but great talking, try to lower the angle of the camera so you film from a little bit of a lower angle that makes you feel more powerful!

Great question! For conferences/keynotes, it will continue being used as a C-Cam. I also shoot projects for a client that requires a 2.28:1 aspect ratio, and having the 2.4:1 ratio on the BMPCC4K is really nice as there is minimal cropping involved. It is also a great overhead cam (top down shots) as it is so lightweight (example: cooking video showing overhead shot of prepping ingredients). I have no plans to offload the Pocket 4K. It is too useful as a camera to me still :)

I guess it would depend on how soon you’re looking to get those cameras. As of now, the C200 Mark II doesn’t exist. If you can hold out and are just focused on video, I wouldn’t get the 1DXIII first. Although it is a great camera and great image, it can replace having built in NDs, XLR, ergonomics of a proper video camera like Canon Cinema line

I find the evf very beneficial. Obviously less ideal for gimbal work, but that’s where the 1DXIII comes in 👍😉

Would be nice to have an intermediate 10-bit codec. Bigger deal for broadcast work which is why the C300ii dominates that market (in Canon’s lineup) 👍
What is your opinion on the HD quality at 120fps??? Another RUclipsr (Dan Watson) , uploaded recently a video , talking about the camera and the HD quality which he refers as “muddy and nasty”! Would love to hear your thoughts about the HD 120p video quality
Initial tests look great to me but good exposure is a must with Canon Log1. In low light or under exposed, it can look muddy. Still want to shoot more with it before I make an actual review 👍

No, not directly like on the Blackmagic Pocket 4K/6K. The hdmi is 4K 10-bit 4:2:2, so you can record to an ssd using an atomos ninja v or something similar.

They are very different tools. In what way are you asking how they are compared?
1dx iii is mainly for photography and a “plus” for little videography. On the other hand, bmpcc 6k is the opposite.
Tyler Edwards sorry I should have been more specific. I currently own a few pocket 4ks and and a 1dx II. I shoot a lot of wedding videos and I like the idea of having a camera that can be put on a gimbal with DPAF and match my pocket 4ks. So I guess my question is how do they compare in terms of dynamic range? Do you feel confident that you could cut between the two cameras? I’m trying to determine if I should upgrade from the mark II.

Haha nah I won’t be getting rid of the BMPCC4K anytime soon. C200 is 2020...very worth it. The cinema raw light future proofs the camera too 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

felipe olvera 18-35 is my favorite lens on the C200. I have my eyes on the sigma 24-70 art for the 1DXIII 👍🏼
Canon 1Dxiii does not have 24fps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a $6500 camera does not have 24fps......

well its only $6,500 dollars lol. i do like the fact that its a dslr as im also a photographer and also that it now has raw but the price point is... Canon are so deliberately over priced IMO. I'll just stick to my bmpcc 6k for now.
You know bmpcc 6k is no match for this camera ...I can say xt3 is my cam ....why do bmpcc owners feel like they need to emphasise or justify their purchase or say this is expensive....this guy made a video about 1dx mkiii now fantasizing is ok buying is ok....enjoying the show is okay....But telling us that your 6k performs better...why we do know what a bmpcc is we also know how to buy one we don't care...just think about that

I think the R5 will be the right step, maybe there will be a R1X or whatever. As a filmmaker, seeing people running around with DSLRS tryin' to be filmmaker is fucking cringe. LEave that DSLR game for Vlogs. :)
As a filmmaker, I use the right tool to for the job. A DSLR can go where proper video cameras can’t either due to weather conditions or location restrictions :)
