  • In this video I'm gonna show you how you can turn any Patcher Preset into a plugin in FL Studio. This will not actually turn the Patcher Preset into a VST Plugin, but you can use the Patcher Preset inside FL Studio as if it was one. It won't make it compatible with DAWs other than FL Studio, like Ableton or Logic though.
I wanted to make this video mainly so I can link it under all my other free Patcher Presets, so people know how to import them into FL Studio and how they might maybe want to use them.

I've known for a while that you can save plugins as favourites and get them to default to opening whatever preset you prefer by default. I love the feature, because I routinely have the plugin browser open on the left-hand side and I like having thumbnail images to pick from, while I still have loads of rarely-used plugs that I don't need shortcuts for. I also learned that you can make whole new category folders, so I've got one folder for all my drum machine plugins, another for subtractive synths, another for Romplers, and in the effects folders I can separate my compressors from my delays and reverbs, or however I want to categorize them. By using categories it also meant I could save multiple versions of the same plugin and get them to open in different states (this is quite useful for things like Kontakt or UVI Workstation, if you want it them to open at a drumkit preset sometimes, and a synth another time). What I couldn't work out was how to have multiple versions of the same plugin in the same folder/category. I suspected that renaming the files might work and your video has happily proved it. It's slightly odd when the image thumbnail disappears, but editing the nfo is easy enough. With a little experimentation, I've managed to get two instances of the same plugin to show up in the same folder, with two different names (e.g. UVI Piano and UVI Synth, even though the plugin is called UVIWorkstation) but also with two different images. (It initially worked by accident by saving a preset to a new folder, and then dragging the files into the same category folder as the original one). *Time passes*
I've just confirmed it's possible with Patcher as well. It just takes a while for the names and images to show up. (I made a new category called "Patcher Presets", and saved my default Patcher preset in it. Then I renamed the 3 files to "Patcher 1" and altered the png name inside the nfo. I then switched to a different preset and saved that as a favourite. It defaulted simply to "Patcher" as expected, so I changed the 3 files in the folder. It didn't seem to work, but when I rebooted FLS, all the different versions - with their own names - showed up. I presume I could have as many as I like, and could call them "Patcher Autopan", "Patcher Sidechain", or whatever, and each will get its own different thumbnail. This is all a bit fiddly, but I think it will save me time in the long run, and makes my browser images look "prettier" if nothing else, so thanks for inspiring me!

I think it's sad that we can't put a display on our diy patcher plugins... Like a display that shows values and that we can connect knobs and faders to

I don't think its a must have, but it's often pretty handy to just have everything. I think its a good deal, but not something I would definitely always recommend for everyone.

@@SimonTheSpeedmon You are right, I apologize.
I followed the same steps, but when I save the plugin in version 21.2, every time I open it, it always shows Map and Surface at the top.
In contrast, your plugin from the video doesn't do that.
How can I achieve that? I would appreciate a video tutorial."

@@samhz-prod Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean, but for me it also always has Map and Surface at the top, no? I don't think there is a way to change that, at least I'm not aware of one.
