N&W 1218, Southern Style 1987

1218, Southern Style documents that 3 Excursions pulled by N&W 1218 in the fall of 1987. First, we see 1218 operating a trip from Ludlow, Kentucky to Danville, Kentucky over the weekend of September 12th & 13th of 1987. This is followed by 1218 running a trip from Ludlow, Kentucky to Chattanooga, Tennessee during the following weekend of September 20th & 21st of 1987. Finally, we see 1218 operating an excursion from Birmingham, Alabama to Chattanooga, Tennessee during the weekend of October 10th & 11th of 1987. Numerous run-by's and even pacing scenes are included with 1218 at speed past the changing colors of Autumn.
This program was produced by the now defunct Lasting Impressions, a video company that operated out of Louisville Kentucky from 1982 to 1991 making railroad videos. Most if not all of the Lasting Impressions shows are lost with only 10 having been found up to this point in Time. Nickel Plated Productions does not lay claim to the ownership of this program or its copyright. Ownership/copyright belongs to Lasting Impressions. This has been uploaded in an effort to preserve its historical contents.

Ken Durham's shows are very well polished but very obscure these days. I'm hoping that through archiving his work that it can be viewed on a much larger scale & able to enjoyed once again. Its ashame Ken's work hasn't made it to DVD. I remember the inclusion of Footage from Ken's 152 shows in your video its restoration. Do you still have those around? I've been a longtime fan of your work since 2012/13.

This is the best video of 1218 on the internet I’ve seen thus far. That opening shot gave me chills, hearing that in and out of sync exhaust.
I’m honored to have been able to see 1218 in person at the VMT. Hopefully one day in my lifetime, her firebox will see fire set to it once again.

I still find it somewhat hard to believe that this locomotive was stronger than the Challenger 3985. What a majestic engine that 1218, and a beautiful hooter whistle to suit it.

I knew guys who went up to ride and chase this but I couldn't make it. But it came to Jacksonville that November and I got to ride behind 1218 then. Coming back from Valdosta that night, I felt like I was IN an O Winston Link photo!

I also remember on this trip to Danville the train being shot at as in went by. Actually it was the car i was in. Think this was before we went thru Lexington.

I was on the Ludlow to Danville trip, I remember boarding at Ludlow although there are passengers already aboard. Did the train back on to the bridge out of the yard first? If so i don't remember that.

I got to see the N&W 2156 I hope they can restore the 2156 and the 1218 to operation so they can double head with an excursion train
