The fact that she wanted her guards is hilarious because she knew that Cruella is going to come for revenge and harm her so she is anxious even with her dogs with her. But we all know that her dogs have a new master then that Barones. Cruella is any day better and I’m sure that her dogs love the baroness’s daughter then her herself
She didn't even seem the least bit hurt when she thought Cruella turned her dogs into a coat. If anything, she only looked mildly offended at the inconvenience she caused.
The detail I love the most is that the Baroness has NEVER toasted for anyone except herself. But here she got so flabbergasted and anxious that for the first time ever, the Baroness toasted for someone else, ironically that someone else was her sworn enemy that she had tried to finish but failed.
They could've linked the plots better with the 101 Dalmatians. Because as it was shown in the movie she used a threat to cause fear by kidnapping her dogs but she didnt kill them. In the end after getting revenge she indeed let them go. The animation version of cruella just seemed too dark as if as she got older her mind became less humane and more wicked. But regardless the plot of this movie was great but it's kinda perplexing to see opposite sides of this character. Like if we think about Disney's tinker bell from her own series and from peter pan, she seemed like something vast changed in her that she even decided to attack wendy and possibly remove her. The lore just goes deep ig but yeah it needs a bit brush up to keep the character original rather than a sudden character break.
For Tinker Bell, the og version in Peter Pan is closer to the fae she's based off of, who in folklore are only large enough to experience one emotion at a time, leaving no room for empathy. I saw a theory saying they likely had trouble turning a character like that into a mc for a kids movie, so they had to change her and make her more emotionally complex, and all around less psychotic. I think it would've been interesting with the OG Tinkerbell tbh
There was a theory created from the fact fairies from Tinkerbell are created from a child believing in them. As children grow, they often stop believing, thus killing the fairies who were Tinkerbell’s friends.
Tbh in terms of lore this movie is shit BUT the movie itself, the story, the characters, designs, the plot twists and especially the dialogues are BRILLIANT. You cant see it as part of the 101Dalmations but this movie can be self standing and is the best piece of art Disney created in the last years

This film as an addition to Cruella's already established life is awful. As a standalone film though, it is fantastic and brings actual depth rather than just 'funny evil woman likes killing dogs because yummy spots'

It's not truly supposed to be a prequel for 101 Dalmations. It's a "what if" story that gives a play on the character in a different universe.
