TOTP back then had this weird mix of just pure playback promotional performances and artists breaking the mold and doing a one-off live version just because they were on TOTP. Good memories.
This is one of the few instances where singers/groups do not lip-syn on TOTP, that's kinda cool! Brilliant song - one of my fav dance tracks of all time!
Starting in the 90s, more live acts were featured as part of the many revamps. Early on - many acts had to be backed by the inhouse band - but then sneaked studio mixes in...
for people discovering this Shamen hit here for the first time, check out the official studio-recorded version of the song - it's rather more polished! Understandable, this is live and it's difficult to get right live.
Fucking cracking track by The Beatmasters as always, because let's face it without them The Shamen would be a complete bunch of unknowns in the 90's music world.
@maxihadda that's not quite right; acts usually mimed until the 'new format' of Top Of The Pops (TOTP) was broadcast in late 1991. I seem to recall reading in the music press that artists were strongly urged to sing and perform live. This live performance (and the live performance they made on TOTP two weeks earlier) in 1991 was, at the time, quite uncommon Goodness knows when TOTP reverted back to miming, though!
As some have already established this sounds alot like a streets of rage tune. You should check out LONE im pretty sure he produced some the music for that game its incredible
Becusase there is a guitar in the whole song? Almost every Shamen song has guitars, they use guitar emulators and sampling guitar sound. 0:32 till 01:04 is the guitar in this clip: ruclips.net/video/x1blhzcqf_I/видео.html
Mr C was f**kin hilarious....little talent but..f**k the guy gave it LARGE when it came to enthusiasm as the geezer above says...it was a shame and tragic the bass player drowned prior to their success...very sad
1) I think you mean Mr C saying things while the music was running 2) The long haired dude, Will Sinn, had died by the time this was aired. He had a drowning accident some hours after they filmed the music video that went with Move Any Mountain.
I still haven't quite recovered from the 90's.
'The Shamen' = One of the pioneers of dance music
Aq
does nobody agree this is the greatest totp performance ever it was live mr c nailed it they played twice that night live

Probably because lots of bands couldn't play live anyway.
👍👍
The shamen were wank, Mr c wankest rapper ever
didn't play twice that night, when mr c says live and direct on totp for the second time tonight , he means second time on totp after the week before.
Mr C is a Legend ;)
This is one of the few instances where singers/groups do not lip-syn on TOTP, that's kinda cool!
Brilliant song - one of my fav dance tracks of all time!
I remember this performance because I was so impressed that they mentioned being on Top of the Pops in the lyrics.
Fantastic group and a great song.
I miss Colin soooo much. What. A. Boss. Hope he's happy whatever he is doing
Will Sin RIP in peace.
ITALY loves SHAMEN...
I remember being at a Shamen live in Monza (Milan), winter 1987...GREAT!
xx
I was in the studio for this - White shirt, long hair, dancing on the stairs behind them :)
I love Mr. C! He's so fun and energetic!
Hats off for performing live! Very rare back in the day!
So much of TOTP is lip synced. How is it that this, of all songs, is performed live? Awesome!
Starting in the 90s, more live acts were featured as part of the many revamps.
Early on - many acts had to be backed by the inhouse band - but then sneaked studio mixes in...
The female dancer is now my english teacher
absolutely lovely

Wow a dance act performing live on TOTP!!...? Who'd have thought!
You picked one of the very few live act examples for your stupid comment
Utterly fantastic live, great song. RIP Will Sin
Max respect Colin Angus too.... would never be the same without him.
Great tunes, great times. Loved the early

Mr C is not dead.
@@JamesSmith-qy3eu And, in 2021, I can report: Mr C, still not dead.
Fucking cracking track by The Beatmasters as always, because let's face it without them The Shamen would be a complete bunch of unknowns in the 90's music world.
Colin and Mr C...wickeeeeeed!!!!
R.I.P. Will Sin.
STAGE 4 Start!!!

Plavka doesn't even have a mic.. but she is still amazing just moving
Plavka isn't on stage here.
I can move any mountain
@ykmsp Actually in the early 90s all acts sang LIVE on TOTP
@stuporstar Weak and forced? You kidding me? Mr. C was the strongest part of this performance!
Nice from a grup that started out with rock try too find they first album that the same with Underworld ;)
@deano8718 She is now my english teacher
Love the big hair on the dancer, does anyone know who she is?
+Richard Macaskill i think its Plavka Lonich
Joff Staple no! It's Cheryl hemmings, my mother
🙌🎹🎤💯🔥👍💊
That's a nice guitar. Still trying to figure out what part of the track it's supposed to be!
the visual part
@Jdub14000 wich caracter ? Axle, Max, Blaze or skate ?
memories of Mottat tennis week. I feel sick,
More or less street cred than :
Michaela Strachan or Pete Waterman ?
The Hitman and Her ! LOL....
In the days before Internet saturation....
@BigFatHarry
Mr. C? The rapper?
The Shamen = los sucesores de Kraftwerk
Colin looks like he’d turn up at a country estate with Jeeves and Wooster mooning after a milkmaid
@Jdub14000 Grand Uppercut ! :D
@BigFatHarry
lol - he does actually. Both heavily influenced by the Orgazoid too.
Slave to the rave,
Rave to the grave!!!
@GlennnD Grand uppa!!!!!
Can't agree more, hamming it up somewhat. Live lyrics though, for TOTP a risk.
@MercBranding Do you have proof?
The singer reminds me of Jez from Peep Show.
BigFatHarry Hadn't noticed this but yes !
AND THIS
@GlennnD Axl was my man!
Plavka on stage?
No that was me 😊
Great vocals ........! Lol
Emi Tentenl ^^
lol 90's
'Live scratching' PMSFL
It was awesome.
mr c now busy promoting the dodgy jab
Mr C was fucking shite. But he did go on to make a truly awesome UK techno record label.
Why is CGA "playing" a guitar?

Not only did Collin ruin the song by saying things while the music was playing, but the long haired dude wasn't there.
1) I think you mean Mr C saying things while the music was running
2) The long haired dude, Will Sinn, had died by the time this was aired. He had a drowning accident some hours after they filmed the music video that went with Move Any Mountain.
Yeah! He on about Colin Angus surely!! LEGEND
I can only imagine he means Mr C and not Colin Angus as Kacey Anders suggests?
NostalgiaKarl K.F. The cd version I have the added verbal ‘spin’ on it.
Horrid noise.
