Back from holidays just hours ago, I got mine and immediately went for a short break-in run. My first impression was they will perform exceptionally well for my running style and foot structure. Midsole is perfect in comfort and energy return; outsole is grippy as a F1 tyre. Icing on the cake, I paid them 32.5 euros less than usual retail ... Conclusion: it's very likely I'll switch to ASICS for my road shoes rotation too, after several pairs of Adidas (which of course I love).
Was waiting for this one, thanks Loyd. I was considering this shoe for the first section of my first 100 miler, but I think I’ll pass for now. Hopefully Catamount 2/Agility Peak 5/Caldera 6 will be a winning combo
I couldn't agree with this comment any more!!!! The plates just don't work. I have both fujispeed 2 and tecton X 2 and they just don't work for me. I wish they did because i spent so much money on them.
Carbon plates are popular among the elites because they are paid by the brands to wear. They're also running at a completely different level compared to us mortals 👍
I used carbon-plated running shoes for a few years, during which I observed increased stiffness in my hamstrings and glutes. After transitioning to regular trail shoes, the tightness in my hamstrings resolved. Initially, I experienced greater fatigue in my glutes and ankles with non carbon trail shoes. Based on my experience, prolonged use of carbon-plated shoes has lead to a reduced range of motion in the glutes, calves, and ankles, potentially due to the altered running biomechanics.
I totally agree, this is why I always say it’s not great to run in carbon plated shoes all the time. Using them in races isn’t a problem but using them all the time can lead to issues 👍
Hey Loyd! I'm a big fan of what Asics has been doing lately but how does the plate feel at slower paces? I really loved the Endorphin Edge but realistically on long, tech-y trail runs im usually moving pretty slow and I didnt feel like I was getting much out of the Saucony one late into a race when im doing 9 min miles for many miles... is this any better? Love that Blast +
Have you ever thought of testing SCARPA? They are an italian brand that only makes trail, trekking and climbing shoes.I love my Goldengate ATR (Scarpa's Presa sole) and my Spin Infinity (Vibram sole).
I know the Scarpa brand well, I've had quite a few pairs of their hiking boots over the years Michael 👍 I will be trying some of their shoes out on the channel in the future. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
The Goldengate ATR has surprisingly snuck up and became pretty much my favourite trail, or even road to trail, shoe. It's rockered trail shoe done right, if you ask me. A darned surprising and inspired design.
Ive got the tecton x 2 and the fujispeed 2 and ive been trying to make them work. Ran 100 odd in borh and i still can't make it work. Hoped it would just click one day. Still, the best shoe ive ran in is the reebok floatride adventure 4. Trabuco max 2
Thanks Loyd. I don't need any plate trail shoe, I am not a elite trailrunner. I like the nb summit unknown v4. Like to Run4adventure. A nice friday for everyone. 🌞🏃⛰️
Thats some great laces. This is so similar to magic speed 3. But do you feel the effect of the plate on the trail? I am not sure you need the plate in trail unless for me it is for dirt track and relative short distance.
I'd say the FujiSpeed sizes up a bit longer compared to the Xodus Ultra. You could wear the FujiSpeed 2 for 100k, I personally wouldn't because of the stiff carbon plate. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🙏😊
Hi Loyd my main bug bare with trail shoes is that they are so bulky. I purchased the Asics Fugi lite 2 (non carbon) and absolutely love it for my faster runs on the trails it feels non atrucive on foot. I use the Asics trabuco max 2 for slower paces. I know you like the Saucony ultra but i find it heavy feeling and cumbersome. I also have the NB Hierro which i also like it sort of sits between the two Asics shoes in terms of performance and feel.
That's the thing with running shoes Keith, it's so personal and every runner feels shoes differently 🤔 I'm surprised you find the Xodus Ultra feels heavy and cumbersome, especially compared to the heavier NB Hierro?
Tried them on recently. Way too much bunching at the front for my foot shape like Lloyd pointed out. Looking forward to trying the Fuji Lite 4, loved the 2 and 3 although the foam packed out way too quickly on the 2, still need to run more in the 3.
The lightness is attractive, but I'm concerned that the protection against stones on the toes is insufficient. I think these are essential for trail running shoes. I look forward to a full review after using it with UTMB.
Great Review Loyd 👌. Have been waiting for some first impressions of the shoe. I have never had an asics trail shoe before, but have just ordered a pair of the fuji speed 2 as was also impressed with the price for a carbon plate trail shoe compared to others, and also like the fact that they are lightweight for a trail shoe too
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video. I totally agree. It is a good price compared to a lot of the other carbon plated running shoes out there 👍 Thanks for watching 🙏
They actually ran pretty good in the ETC race I used them in. They felt good driving up the hills and the outsole was fantastic coming down the other side. I was surprised with how well they performed 👍
These were worn to win the world championship short trail and OCC this year. I also think they do pretty good on technical. Personally, they are too narrow and stiff for me to do a long race, but didn't have a problem on technical terrain.

I remain unconvinced that the marriage of carbon plates and trail running is a good thing. I recommend a divorce.
Perhaps, but the marriage is popular among the elites (notable exception of Salomon).
think of it as rock plate
Try out the Hoka Tecton X2 and you may change your mind. Twin parallel carbon plates.

I have the opposite experience. Less issues in carbon shoes. We are all built differently.

Have you heard anything about the Topo RUNVENTURE 4?
where i can buy that hydration vest? what is the name?
Maybe save some money and get the fuji lite 4, the non plated counterpart, no???
If you don't want a Carbon plate in your trail shoes then the Fujilite 4 is a good option 👍
Any thoughts on a head 2 head with the Hoka Tecton X? Show down of the trail carbon race shoes…..Thanks for all you do! 🤙🏽
I'll see what I can do 🤔
Thanks for watching 🙏

Man. Do you sell your used trail shoes Loyd? We have same size 😅
Would you recommend sizing down 1/2size in these? You complain about the length and volume
I personally would go half a size down in them, they were just a little long in my normal uk9.5 👍

Maybe the Carbon plate isn't working for you. I'm still not convinced we need Carbon plates in our trail shoes 🤔
Thanks Loyd. I don't need any plate trail shoe, I am not a elite trailrunner. I like the nb summit unknown v4. Like to Run4adventure. A nice friday for everyone. 🌞🏃⛰️
Hi Loyd! Should I get these or the OG exodus ultra runshield for 10k-20k mild trail runs..
I’d personally go for the OG Xodus 👍
Thats some great laces. This is so similar to magic speed 3. But do you feel the effect of the plate on the trail? I am not sure you need the plate in trail unless for me it is for dirt track and relative short distance.
how is the sizing compared to xodus ultra? would these be enough for a 100km run?
I'd say the FujiSpeed sizes up a bit longer compared to the Xodus Ultra. You could wear the FujiSpeed 2 for 100k, I personally wouldn't because of the stiff carbon plate. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🙏😊

Another great review. Looking for a fast 50k trail shoe. Would you pick these over the NF Vectiv pro 2 and saucony Rift ? Thanks mate
I would pick the Fujispeed 2 over the other two shoes you mentioned 👍
Hope this helps, thanks for watching 🙏
@@Run4Adventure thanks!
If they are better than the vective summit I'm going to the ASICS store?
I haven't tried the Vectiv Summit yet? 🤔
Tried them on recently. Way too much bunching at the front for my foot shape like Lloyd pointed out.
Looking forward to trying the Fuji Lite 4, loved the 2 and 3 although the foam packed out way too quickly on the 2, still need to run more in the 3.
We must have similar foot shapes 🤔 I'd quite like to try the Fujilite 4 myself. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
@@Run4Adventure we do. Same shoe size as well 😜
Too narrow like the NB Supercomp .They should offer a wide version!
I'd say the Asics shoes are a bit wider than the Supercomp Morgan 👍
@@Run4Adventure ok that’s surprising!
Stian Angermund just won the OCC in these.
He sure did but I'm pretty sure he would have won the race wearing any shoes 👍
Thanks for watching 🙏

Trabuco vs Fuji?
I’d personally go for the Fuji but they’re both good trail shoes 👍🙂
great review, im looking for a new trail shoe
Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching 🙏
Great and informative video as always Loyd. Will you be reviewing some of the TNF Summit shoes
Really glad you enjoyed the video. I'm trying to get some of TNF Summit shoes as I type 👍😊
Hey Loyd.
Looking forward to ETC video 👊🏻
Race day video should be on the channel soon 👍

Eyes peeled for Chamonix's most famous resident: Jon Fielden 🤘😎
?????🤷♂️
@@Run4Adventure i didn't see him 🤣
