Well said, Sam. One of your better, if not best, videos. It’s nice to see you open up and show us more of who you really are. Maybe you should try to insert more of the “philosophy” of street and other photography genres into regular posts. I would like to hear more of your thoughts. Cheers. And Happy Holidays to all!!!
Thank you Richard! It‘s great to hear that you enjoyed the video and my philosophy talk. I definitely want to do another video like this and talk more about the philosophical side of street photography. Happy Holidays to you too! :-)
I’ve been doing street photography for 40 years. I do it because I love it. I feel in my element and I feel like I am the artist. Love, love, love street photography ❤❤❤❤
Nice. What we can learn here is staying friendly, staying relaxed, slowing down, being consistent. There is not a single moment where you see a flurry of activity. I don't see that Sam is in hurry to go somewhere. That brings him excellent photos.
"We almost look like we are hunting, which we are" so relatable. So easy to get "hunter eyes" scanning for subjects. Then I try to chill, enjoy the atmosphere and lighten up a bit. Great video.
It is important to blend in, I fully agree that when you are in a bad mood do something else that fits your mood. When the crowd rejoice you should sing and dance with the crowd. I think that is the best way not only to capture but also to enjoy the moment
I chuckled loud with the "When I'm in a coffee shop with my wife and my husband --- " part!!!! I love it HAHAHAHAHAHA *soooo raw! Thanks for the laugh! Besides that, I'm so happy I stumbled upon this....I was doing events for 2 yrs now and I'm drained. I'm hoping to do street photography again and I'm hoping to find light to do it again. Thank you for this tips! Helped me get inspired!
Samuel, it is clear your lessons are well worth sharing and are appreciated. I am an old-time street historian, shooting to help me remember life in a time capsule. When I go back and look at my old photographs, I feel transformed back in time.
….is a privilege!
Great job Samuel, please do create a part 2 of this video! You bring out the essence of photography in this one and the life lessons that help emphasize the “Feeling” of a photo and how to capture life. Great job. My favorite shot from this was the 2 individuals in wheelchairs taking selfies…..Beautiful!
I'm just starting my journey with an old second-hand Lumix but I'm loving it! Your videos are inspiring and so easy to watch and listen to. I would love to have a part 2 of this video Good luck and keep inspiring!
Very wise words Samuel. I’ve been doing street photography for 10 years now. The insoles are so important. It’s all about capturing our time here and in 20-30 years our photos will show a very different time of place. We are the visual historians of the future. Oh and coffee is the life blood of any street photographer. Talking about coffee it’s time for mine. Well done Samuel, great video..
Your 10 years photography is my first! I always love doing photography, with my phone, or just regular photo for job needed but I feel like I want to do more than this, I want to do something with my photography, just because I learn it since high school, doesn't mean I get better at it, I just know how to use camera and take composition, but there's no soul. So, I want to add new perspective by doing street photography so, not only using what I already know, but give it a chance to be something I enjoy ☺️ thank you for sharing your experience absolutely lovely 💙
This was a great end of year video, I think the question of "why" we do our chosen photography is a great question. I can feel my reason changing this year but something I want to think over to hopefully narrow my work for the future
Wonderful! A delightful blend of philosophical motivation and introspection as well as practicality (the insoles suggestion is spot on - as a full day of city exploration can be basically be a marathon).
Thank you Samuel! I stumbled upon your video during the pandemic and it inspired me to try street photography and take black and white photos. That time I don't have a proper camera so I use my old phone. Now I have the original fuji x100. I'm in love with the process, it teach me to slow down. Again, thank you very much! 😁
I really liked the thoughts you shared with this one. I had thought it would be more basic tips and tricks but you quickly went philosophical, and in a good way! These thoughts are best delivered in a way that's not too serious or self-important, and I think you handled it just right.
Thanks Sam, your philosophy and program seem very solid indeed. I think I'll adopt it myself! Your channel was one of the first I found when taking up photography again (during the pandemic). This was a nice video, very nice. The downward tele shot in Lesson 4 was cool, where the street was the subject and you looked like a little toy! Hats off to your videographer...! So, as we say in Germany, Thank you for everything you've done this year. Please keep being nice to us in the next year. And do have a very good year in 2023!
One of the freshest new channels I have discovered and you are also German. Perfection. Thank you for the genuine insight you give. I agree with your positive view on street photography. It is a privilege indeed.
Thanks for this video. And the lessons. I was never Interested in street photography until I discovered your channel. Now I’m fascinated with it. I came to your channel for Fujifilm tutorials and I stay for the life philosophy. Thank you again for sharing a little of yourself.
Hey Karen, very nice to hear that! Always nice to hear from people who are watching and are new to street photography. I hope you continue to get value out of my videos :) Have some nice Christmas holidays!
@@SamuelStreetlife thanks! Wishing you a lovely holiday with your family! I’m spending part of the holiday time making friends with my x-e4 (which replaced my decade-old Nikon 1, which I adored).
Since this video gives some kind of level of motivation and food for thoughts - why not go for "motivation part 2". Thank you for this one and thank you in advance for part 2 🙏🏻
Samuel, your pictures and philosophy behind them are inspiring. Thank you for the lovely video. Will you have a book or a zine coming out soon? Would love to have your work printed.
Hey Diana!! You know I am working on three different books/zines at the moment… It‘s all very overwhelming having to go through so many images and deciding on the right layout and sequence. But eventually there will be a book and I will talk about it on my channel when the time is right :) Thank you and hope you are doing well!
Thank you for this, its good to remember street photography is fun. That Lost in Translation reference threw me back as well! Part would be welcome indeed!
You have made a great video to illustrate these 5 simple lessons. Lesson number 4 resonates with me very much. Thank you from a new subscriber. I look forward to seeing more of your work.
I wish we had more street photographers with the technique of Vivian Maier. Such tonality, detail and natural realism. A square format is also a big plus.
I was having a coffee in Bordeaux, France. A super-cool guy cycled past on a red bike, and he was wearing a green suit with green shoes. My best ever "Street" photo. My Fuji X100V helped. Set to full AUTO it got the shot perfectly, in the space of a couple of seconds. Sometimes you don't need to walk, Street-Life will come to you.
Beautiful Hamburg, especially at this time of year... Samuel you always surprise me in a positive way. It's really one of my favorite videos you ever made. Thanks, have a merry Christmas with your wonderful family and I wish you all a very happy new year! Tschüss 🙏
Great video. You are a very sympathetic personality. Especially lession 5 comes from a great wisdom and motivated me to think about my photography and life itself. Thanks for that. And yes a second video about this topic is highly appreciated..
Your best video so far! Really liked how you approached the subject. I agree it’s very important to interact with the people on the streets, if you want to connect with the subjects. It makes the photos better and more meaningful as well.
I like that, "think about it" that should be the street photography motto. Me myself need to practice that; I still call myself an urban photographer when I'm not in the right frame of mind.
Excellent video, good points and some stunning images. BTW: Being from Vienna, it is nice to see your examples from chapter three showing showing my hometown.😊
Great tips these ones are certainly very very advance it shows that you have a maturity in your photography craftmanship, no technical stuff only the essence of photography which to me is the most important part when you have some year looking deeply into photography. Hope that one day I will do a video like these one. Thank you for sharing!
Totally inspirational vids, fam. Based on the vision that you and Sean impart, I just ordered a GR3x. It's tiresome lugging around my FF for street. I'm goin' mobile...! Whatever your future endeavors, I'll be checking you. Cheers.
Really enjoyable video and refreshing not to be hung upon on the equipment! Very motivational. I am curious on one point though.....if you could only use ONE focal length forever for your street photography, what would you choose?
When you said take photos in coffee shops, I paused the video, looked around, and instantly took a nice photo in the coffee shop I'm in. Tanks! :D
Haha the best outcome 😁 awesome!
I love this story
Damn.

oh yes we want part two, please!!
Congratulations on your 10th year of doing street! On to the next 10! And a part 2 would be much appreciated! Blessing to you and your family Samuel!
Thank you Reuel! Many blessings to you as well :) Appreciate your comment.

In awe of your moustache 😍

I’ve been wondering what you do when you’re in the coffee shop with your wife and your husband…this video finally answers that question for me. Thanks
😂

When you said “my wife and my husband” I spat out my water 😂. That was hilarious!!

Glad to hear that George! Always good to question the „why“ of what we do :) All the best man!
Thank you, much appreciated. A part II would be really good to see.
Nice one. Thanks Sam. Yeah a part 2 would be nice. Take care.
Wonderful! A delightful blend of philosophical motivation and introspection as well as practicality (the insoles suggestion is spot on - as a full day of city exploration can be basically be a marathon).

Been watching you for a long time Sammy. Great to see how your channel has grown. 🖤 The coffee shop tip is real talk or sometimes a bar in my case!
This really is an excellent video and one of my favorites on your channel.

I really appreciate how frequent you post videos recently. Good work Sam!
I try my best😄 thanks!!
Great video. Not the obvious tips that I can find in other videos, just vibes: good ones.
Very nice video, Samuel. I'd love a part 2. Love seeing your work!
I liked your advice, your way of shooting and your pics. Good job!
I was having a coffee in Bordeaux, France. A super-cool guy cycled past on a red bike, and he was wearing a green suit with green shoes. My best ever "Street" photo.

Thank you for sharing. You are a true inspiration. I would love to see a part 2. And 3. And 4...
I enjoyed this, especially regarding your reason for Street. Can we have a Part 2 please.
Thanks for watching Phil! And yes, will work on Part 2 soon :-)
Really interesting talk (especially point 5). I wish you well in your future endeavors.
One incredible video, Sam. Especially appreciated lessons 4 and 5, your photographs, and afterword. Thanks so much!
Great staff Samuel, very helpful. Part two will be highly appreciated 😊
Goat. Thanks for all the knowledge
Having just moved to Madrid and with my motivation in full decline, this has definitely helped me get back on the horse :)!
Great video. You are a very sympathetic personality. Especially lession 5 comes from a great wisdom and motivated me to think about my photography and life itself. Thanks for that. And yes a second video about this topic is highly appreciated..

What a great gift pre Christmas. These lessons all apply to having a beautiful life too! So yes please to part 2 🎉
Thank you for this insightful, inspirational video Samuel. Now that I am subscribed to your channel I will await "Part 2". Happy holidays to you!
Very Good Advice! Enjoy the freedom and fun!
Knowing your mission, basically finding meaning on what you do, is the million dollar thing, specially in times like these...
Mission or purpose really a good reminder. Something Koudelka had a real grasp of.
Would love to see a video on your Lightroom catalogue and how you sort/stay organized.
I recently found your channel and I’m loving every video!! The coffee with your wife and your husband cracked me up 😂
One of my favorite videos this year! Here’s to another 10 years brotha~ 🎉
Absolutely fantastic!!!
Richté jut! Auf jeden Fall 'n Part 2!
Excellent video. Thoughtful, funny and very helpful
Your best video so far! Really liked how you approached the subject. I agree it’s very important to interact with the people on the streets, if you want to connect with the subjects. It makes the photos better and more meaningful as well.
Thank you. I needed that.
Of course, Part 2!. Great video. Help me a lot. Thanks

You are so right Samuel. I’ve learned something from you today 👍
As someone starting out in street photography, I'll definitely be taking these tips out on the streets!
I really enjoyes this video Sam, thank you. I feel inspired to get out now haha
Great content. +1 to part 2 of this series. Thanks for content!
Yes, part 2 please!
Thanks Samuel. Yes please, part two.
Nice tips! BTW amazing capture at 08:59
Best cold open. 👏 Thank you for sharing your advice and photography so generously.
Thank you for watching and commenting! :)
Thanks for these tips Sam! Great stuff! And please include more videos of your “husband” in future videos. Thanks!
Haha! He is very shy but I will try :-P
Excellent video, good points and some stunning images. BTW: Being from Vienna, it is nice to see your examples from chapter three showing showing my hometown.😊
I found your commentary on TikTok to be a great explanation, by contrast, of the dynamics of street photography.
Sam, I really loved the photos you showed us at the end of this video. Were they all shot with the Ricoh or a mix of cameras??
Bring on part 2 Samuel 👍
