    Two metro rakes from China arrived at the Kolkata port on Wednesday evening around 7 PM and were unloaded from the vessel on Thursday. These rakes, manufactured by CNR Dalian Locomotive & Rolling Stock Co., began their journey from China on April 26. Once assembled near a railway yard at the port, they will be transported to the Noapara maintenance base by a diesel engine. A Metro official indicated that the new rakes are expected to be added to the fleet soon, likely serving the north-south corridor (Blue Line) between New Garia and Dakshineswar. Initially, the first train was a prototype, and delays were caused by extensive trials and the pandemic. The new rakes have a more foolproof design and are anticipated to commence commercial runs following basic inspections within a month. The Railway Board first contracted the Chinese firm to build 14 rakes for Kolkata Metro in May 2015, with an original delivery deadline of October 2018. However, design approval from the central Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) delayed the process. The first of these 14 rakes arrived at Kolkata port on March 3, 2019, marking the end of the Integral Coach Factory's monopoly as the sole supplier of rakes to Kolkata Metro. The Chinese rakes are seen as a reliable replacement for the old, snag-prone rakes and as a means to alleviate the pressure on the existing air-conditioned rakes.

    Kolkata metro is operated by Indian Railways, but not West Bengal Government or any private organisation. Indian Railways purchased metro coaches from china. But it should be manufactured by any Indian Railway Coach factory. Chinese coaches are sub standard.

In fact Kolkata metro is the only MRT system in lndia under the Ministry of Railway, where as all other metros in lndia comes under Ministry of Urban Development. This was done by Mamta Banerjee herself when she was the Minister of Railways at the centre. That is the reason she never attends any metro inaugration in Kolkata. Kolkata metro is the 17 th zone of the lndian Railways under a GM of Railways. So please do not spread disinformation.

    No new orders were given to China after the Galwan incident, CRRC Nanjing was forced to tie up with Titagarh Rail Systems to complete the order for Bengaluru metro.
    Also, the order for Kolkata metro was given to CRRC Dalian in 2015, the first prototype had many problems which lead to further delays.

    Kolkata metro does not have any Non AC rake since October 2019 for passenger service. But they have 2 Non AC rake which they use for trial run and testing new lines.

    A lot of your info is partially incorrect, for example this is not the first two rakes but the second ans third. One was deliverd years ago and had lots of flaws in it.
    Secondly, all non ac trains have been phased out of operations, though the fact remains that all of the ac metris (except for green line) are made by icf only.

    that metro rake which you've put the photo of in thumbnail is by far the best rake operating in Kolkata... I've just rode it yesterday,,, I loved it. It's more spacious , faster acceleration and ac is chilled .... it looks very streamline ,,,, office goers pefer to commute in this particular rake I overheard.

    For your kind information the rolling stock of Mumbai Metro one is made in China.
    Also, multiple infrastructure projects in India use Chinese equipment. Even the sardar patel statue has Chinese components.

      Statue of Unity's construction was started in 2015 and it was ready in 2019. Our relations with China weren't as bad then.
      Even Mumbai Metro's RIL Line which has Chinese rake was opened in 2014.
      All further Mumbai Metro's rakes are procured from BEML.

    Simple answer:
    1. Order was placed before massive deterioration of India-China relations.
    2. We cannot cancel it due to international trade agreements, and international reputation as it will have an adverse effect on other international trade and/or projects.
    3. Also, major delays caused by COVID, and West Bengal government's active non-cooperation and deliberate attempts to "derail" the project!
    The project is in WASTE Bengal. Momota Didi and the TMC have actively tried to interfere. Delays have occurred in the Kolkata Metro because West Bengal government has put hurdles in the project.
    The project is 100% owned by central government for that very reason. Because, MomoWhoreTa Didi BanWhoreJee refused to pay for it.

    The Kolkata metro is owned and operated by Indian Railways, and the order was placed in 2015, way before the border/LAC clashes occurred. Not sure why most Bangalore, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Gurgaon, Nagpur, Noida metro coaches are of Chinese origin though.

    West Bengal is under opposition of Centre since 1962, Indra Gandhi Government in center gave Metro to Kolkata under the initiative of the then Railway Minister Late Gani Khan Chowdhury. It was total success Metro Railway was having profit. After the death of GK Chowdhury due to political agenda Fund was not released by Centre for Kolkata Metro. And hence work got delayed. Please Note Jyoti Basu government was not corrupt like present Government in WB.

      Kolkata Metro is Operated by KMRC - Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation which is Subsidiary of Indian Railways like Konkan Railways. And In KMRC Body WB Govt. is also Present.
      and The Development was Done by KMRC and RVNL with some Private Bodies also like Shapoorji Pallonji Afcons in Orange Line.

    I don't understand why Kolkata Metro does not order rakes from Titagarh Wagons, they are supplying rakes for Namma metro. It will save transportation cost since it is a West Bengal based company.
