Battered shoreline, piles and piles of freshly deposited stones and hidden Lake Superior agates!

  • Created by InShot:inshotapp.page.link/YTShare. In this video we head west from Whitefish Point lighthouse in search of the allusive banded Lake Superior agate. The winds the day before dramatically changed the shoreline. One fancy cabin high on a hill is now just a few feet from falling into the great lake...one more storm could wipe her away for good. Freighters we're prevalent steaming out of Whitefish Bay heading to ports in the western regions of our great Lake Superior. Other agate hunters we're scarce, yet the agates were not...we found a few nice gems. Oh, many awesome unusual rocks were found as well as some incredible driftwood. It was a day I won't soon forget. And just before I got to the beach I caught a glimpse of a family of swans in the outflow of the mighty Tahquamenon River...where it joins the breathtaking Whitefish Bay. Awesome day for sure!

Me and my fiancé went up to Misery Bay Beach and Agate Beach about a month ago to go agate hunting.. Sad to say we left with no agates. We did find a lot of really interesting rocks, some of which we still haven't identified! Seeing you throw some of the agates back for others to find is so thoughtful, especially since a lot of these beautiful beaches are so picked through. You're giving me more hope that we may someday soon find our first agate!

Thankfully though, I found the problems before they got worse...God knew what needed to be done...that said, I will probably now have to wait till tax time to find a vehicle. Excellent day out there, very peaceful with the waves. Makes me miss rockhounding down state on the Clinton River, where we used to live, in the city. Sweet log, totally an old one! Love the unakite, wish I could find nice ones like that. Man, I need to travel up there. Overall really peaceful video, really fun and enjoyable to hunt with you along the shore. Sooo many rocks to look through too, love it. Green-winged teal is the name of that duck! This world is so special, thanks for sharing a piece of yours! It's crazy how fast the rocks wash in and out along the shore. Pretty agates, nice not seeing too many people out there searching too. Manifest that new ride, I can see you driving it now! Awesome information too, thanks! I've always wanted to search the black sand for flour gold. Wood is the best, I very much enjoy it too! Very relaxing journey, thanks Dan! Nice banded iron! Gorgeous agates, so beautiful, love how they form! Great day!

I love the ships too. There’s a free app that tells you what ships are near you. It’s called Marine Traffic and it tells you the ship name and where it’s headed. The Paul R. Tregurtha is my favorite since it’s the longest. I also love the John G. Munson. There’s a RUclips guy called Vibe with Mike who shows the ships up close, coming into Duluth Harbor. Great closeups! We are looking for a 4 wheel drive too. It’s hard to know who to trust when trading in. We have a 2017 Nissan Sentra, but would love a 4 wheel so we can go to these places, like Vermillion. What weather sites do you like to use for checking wind conditions? Is this video from Friday, Nov 10? I am sure I speak for many people here, it is so refreshing to see you leave the agates and omars for someone else to find since you have all you need. All too often, I see a few well-known RUclips rock hounds pick up 10-30 lbs of Michigan rocks and fossils in each of their videos. It is obvious that they are picking up well over the state law of 25 lbs/yr within a couple weeks of videos.

    • @upperpeninsulabeautiful

So I check weather channel daily so I can pick the best days possible to make our videos...I like to make my beach days count since I can't get there often. This trip I made yesterday the 14th. The huge wind storm was the 13th... incredible winds. And I never heard of that Michigan law...but very interesting indeed! But I have a ton of experience hunting agates and I'm convinced the numbers are dwindling. Regardless of the state law...for me personally, I'm going to take much fewer...I want our kids and their kids to have some to find. Thank you for supporting my conviction to leave many on the shore...! And thank you for the comments...not everyone says what they think! Our family is trying our best to make a positive channel! We appreciate you!

@@upperpeninsulabeautiful That's interesting. When I view the weather site history for Whitefish Point for yesterday, it said that winds were 20+mph from 11am-9pm that day, but notice that they were coming from the south so maybe that is why the waves didn't look bad. Does that weather info sound roughly correct? I do see the 20-35mph winds from the north on the day before that may have pushed the new batch of rocks onto the shore. Thanks again for all you do! I learn something new every time I watch one of your videos.
