Hey rockdad, that little knobbly number at 20.37, please, please face and polish! And that big one you want identified? Well, I reckon its a spud! 😆😅😉🤣 cut it open if you can, i suspect you might be pleasantly surprised eh. Luv the video 💓🤗
Haha ill have to!
The great lakes is also the largest diamond field in the world. But most of them are under water.
Dude even just the adventure to be had in the search of an area I’ve never experienced, is just so rad to be able to be a part of. Love your work Tay!
the magneticness!!!!
Yeah just love it dude!
To all of it... thanks brother! One of the gifts with this whole YT thing, is sharing my area with you all! Love it. Going to keep diving deeper into sharing that scenery 🤘
I'm wondering if the green rock is epidote. Not suree if Ispelled that right. I bet that water was freezing! Thanks for the video!
Squirrel moments are the best! That's a really cool discovery! Thank you for a really fun video. Take care!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this. Just came back from a trip to the north shore with my daughter - having just recently started following you, we were inspired to try hunting in a bunch of new places. It’s late in the season and we didn’t find any big rocks, but we did find more than our share of smaller keepers and have broadened our scope of what we look for. Even jasper..I think we have enough to tumble a batch!
How far up do you go on the North Shore? Do you have better luck finding rocks during the end of fall/ beginging winter time. Probably not as busy like summers time.
I've gone past grand marais 👍👍
Biiiiir cold,
🥶
found more agates at my thrift store today!
Nice!!
You should make a video of your agate collection!!
Not a bad idea 👍
That rock at 6:10 with that braichiated in brown's is beautiful.. I'd love some.
That brain stone is what some call galaxy stone because of those bits through out it .. and that other that you call a galaxy stone is more of a different type of agated jasper... but I definitely am not a authority on it.
I would say its not galaxy stone, I do love galaxy stone though, check this out 👉 ruclips.net/video/jpeTFoefJi0/видео.html
@@AgateDad I watched that video before. And the brain rock is just bigger with bigger other stones captured and they wiggled out of the surface..
The agatey basalt streaked one isn't the same.. but I'm not a expert.
The great big world of people, many think alike.
The ladies from my lapidary shop... since 1978 members say they are just bigger or smaller bits of the same thing..
I'm anticipating what it might look like inside of each.. that milky bluish is really cool.
I could have a totally off thought...
Such a great video! You are always so enthusiastic and it put a smile on my face!
Happy I am able to do that!!
Could you please tell us where you got your "scoopy thing"? Thank you.

@2:02 , 9th icicle from the left ,, what’s glowing ?
Might have to go back and look now lol
hey agate dad i am first i dm d you how you doing
I love learning new things. Thankyou Agate Dad for your knowledge.
I had to chuckle when you showed that mason Jar with a collection of rocks...my sister and I used to take a jar like that and go around looking for pretty rocks, glass, marbles...anything that caught our eye really....lol
You need to get muck boots if your feet get wet they will still be warm. You will be surprised. Go to a farm store.
🧡💚🧡💚🧡💚🧡💚🧡💚🧡💚🧡
The black magnetic rocks could also be really eroded iron ore! Caused by weathering on the beach it may appear duller then usual. Also enjoyed the videos! 👍😊
Great finds! Making us want to go agate hunting but we can't venture to our favourite sites in England at the moment because they're on lockdown xx
Thanks! Hopefully soon things will get back to a healthy normal state and they'll be waiting for you!!
Super vídeo
I enjoyed seeing how many rocks were magnetic.
I need to get up to the north shore of lake superior in Minnesota!
I was shocked to see you risk your life going after a stone. Don’t you realize the danger of slipping into the frigid waves-sooo powerful? Next time think of your family before doing something so foolish. Just sayin’
The rock you showed around 7:50 appears to be a serpentine group specimen. The green looks like serpentinized olivine and I'm guessing the whiter color is a very light green with fibrous texture under the microscope. There is a ton of serpentine around where I live in WA state. Serpentine has 16 varieties that I'm aware of and they range in hardness values from very soft to very hard. (If memory serves me correctly 2.5 through 5.5 or even 6 possibly on the mohs scale depending on the species.)
You are the gold standard sir!! Hope 10K comes soon for you!!! Thanks for another great video!
Oh my gosh thank you!!
Probably too long ago to mention, though I just came across this tonight, but the rock at 6:13 is a "puddingstone". Except for a piece of bif--banded iron formation--which was formed BILLIONS of years ago, puddingstones are conglomerates whose innards are in the billions as well. Interestingly, Michigan is the epicenter of some of the most unusual and ancient rocks in the world! (Wish I'd known that when I lived there.) Others: greenstones, petoskey stones and Yooper lights--which glow in the dark!
I was going to tell you on your last video concerning those black stones. To take a flashlight to them , or your phone light , the stronger the light the better . See if the light will penetrate the stones . If the light penetrates the stones they're not meteorites. You could open a window on the stones by using that new lapidary machine you have . Hint ! Hint ! Thank you . Enjoyed !
Thatd be fun!
That big rock with all the pits is really intriguing . It will be interesting to see how some of your finds look when they are slabbed. Take care and stay safe :)
Man i really love the luster of those Jaspers. Let's get this guy to 10,000 before 2021 😎
How cool would that be!
Great videos. Love your passion for rocks and your laugh. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Thank you so much!
Here in massachusetts porphyry is also called magnetite ..I actually never knew it was called porphyry until I learned it from you.😊
How do you get the scoopy marks off your rocks? That is the one problem I have with mine. We tried dipping the end of scoopy in rubberized paint but that just peels off.
I guess I havent tried to get off the marks, I would assume just a scrub brush. Now ill have to go try and see!
Interesting! Might have to give it a try.. I just can't cover up scoopys face..
Thats good to know! I have neck pains on a daily basis.. I wonder how bad it would be if I didn't rockhound..??
Hahaha oh man the food comas will be real!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours btw!
Nice finds, but y’all can keep that dang snow! My southern blood freezes at 60°!!😝
Wow such a great video. Love it. And the rocks to. Very beautiful. From Jordan
Really kool .
Taylor, now the water has come down in 2021 on the Great lakes. rock hounding should be a bit less stressful and bigger beaches ! Enjoy
You can never have enough rocks. Fun to pick and never leave something that is interesting. You can always put it in your rock garden. Take care , hope the family is well.
Thanks! Same to you and yours!
Magnetite!?
Oman’s oh my goodness.. oh there’s no waves here.. OH CRAP! Hahaha hope you didn’t get soaked
I look mostly for greenstone and diamonds. I collected a couple bushels of petosky stones but got tired of that and dumped them in the driveway.
Always a pleasure to watch you! I'm wondering what makes the water on the north shore such a different color?
Beautiful ! But believe me i not going to go in ice time to find this beautiful stone , you still to young you have to care for bone pain . because is horrible .i look only in summer . and i found a hasper is so beautiful that is incredible that is real is red so red and black .well i just look because i love stone just for my self i don't have business . i am real curious abou that big full of holes that you found i want to see it when you cut it. Please .love you .
Black Rock could be hematite? It's much more magnetic though.
Loved seeing the big lake in the wintertime. Not a view I’ve seen in a long time. Thanks for letting me tag along with you and scoopy on your adventures❄️
Happy to have you along! There will be many more winter wonderland adventures!
Cool! Interesting! I learned some stuff!! Thank you! I’m amazed by the agates you find, some so defined , some not so. If all my chalcedony were agates like yours, that would be awesome! I’ll have to see and search where here on Beaver Island has those gorgeous fortification agates. I love all the rocks I have and totally love finding them, and I love that you, Agate Dad is appreciating the non-agate world of minerals \ rocks. Rock on Dude! Your videos are magnetic lol.
Love the pun! Thanks for the good laugh!!
Maybe try using one of those strong fishing magnets and dragging it along the beaches?
Break open that 8:42 rock.... Those pockets are where crystals form...
Maybe the darker the black the more magnetic it is? Cool to find out. Pyroxene might be related to iron?
Hi, I made a comment about your 2 nuggets in the original vid entety. my links and comments are there. I still think they are copper nuggets. The dull red and green patenia that was more obvious there is at least indicative. A little iron in the mix is no surprise.
Maybe a cut would help identify!
Is copper magnetic?
@@AgateDad Copper is not, but there is all kinds of iron around there, and it could be a mix of Iron and Copper. Sometimes silver and copper are found together. No surprise in that. It's just really neat. Did you check the links in the other comment? They are beautiful.
I havent yet, good to know!
When you had to time to run across the beach I had to do that in high tide in California at night
That sounds fun!
After the wind storm rock hunt. Great finds. Not many days left. Thanks again for sharing
Hopefully winter will be kind to us!
I’m going to check all mine now. That is amazing!
Nice video Agate Dad. Beautiful and informative but just curious where are the agate kids. Presumably Agate mom should at minimum get a shout out for enabling you to tool around to half a dozen beaches. Sincerely breakfast/storytime/teaching/crisis intervention et al dad. Jk mostly anyway. I'm probably just jealous.
My seven year old son wants me to clarify that all the crisis intervention is due to behavior of three-year old son and I have been accused of libel. 😆
I definitely love vids like these, the roaring madnesss of Lake Superior...You know Man vs The Rushing Water....Tell me something, Is the beach red because of Rhyolite?
I'm actually not sure!
Dude u have No idea how much I wish I'd seen this video about 3 months ago when I was searching EVERYWHERE to find out what the hell the pretty white rocks that I kept finding on the beach while hunting for agates were (I called em snowballs)... Eventually I figured it out thankfully... here u find 2, the same type it seems that we have on the Oregon coast... Zeolites!! They're so pretty and actually do tumble and get even prettier, just much faster than agates obviously since they r so much softer. Well that was enough to prove to me how well u know your stuff- subbed!👍
Thanks for the subscription! And glad I could be helpful!
really fun to watch you on the North Shore right now. I am missing being up there. It's going to be a long winter.
JASPER IS THE BEST! Ok, watching. :D
I've really started enjoying it more and more lately! So many variations!
@@AgateDad Yep - and it's hard, so it polishes beautifully. It makes me sad it's so underappreciated. :D
Let's do our best to spread the word on its beauty 🥰
@Harley Mace :D
Oh my! That looks too cold and dangerous for rock hunting. LoL 😳
Dude that looks like so much fun...If I lived on Superior theyd have to throw me off.....All those sweet rocks...And yes I love Love Love jasper!
Its definitely difficult leaving 😕 such a good connection to the lake
Some of the rocks you found would look awesome tumbled! I love your channel !!! I’ve been watching only for about a week or so.
Welcome aboard!
Great video, Buddy! I'm down Alabama way right now. Really hoping for a call out from someone to take me on an alligator safe hunt. Lol. Not missing that cold, though. ~Much love
Haha sounds freaky!
Did you find out what the rock at 14:23 is? I have a few of those
The prehnite you found was excellent! Love those botry’s!
About those two black rocks... A good way of knowing if they're actually meteorites, is cutting them in half, like with agates... If you see metal flakes, kinda like in porphyry, and if the rock is magnetic... Then it there's a high chance that it might be a meteorite ☄️
But I would still recommend you to find a professional (geologist for example) to identify it for you Agate Dad
I agree on getting a professional opinion 👌
Can you get Jasper that are Agates, correct??
Love the north shore!!! Even in winter! Also I really like the first spot you are at. I've found some good stuff there.
Its so beautiful with the snow ❄
Awesome finds as always!! I can't wait for next season to search for more agates and would love to find some with as much detail as the LSA's have!! You're one of the many people that got me motivated to start making videos. I love watching your content Thanks so much for sharing.
Thanks!! Its always fun finding some with details!
the little magnetic rock looks like iron stone.
Might have to take a drive up. I miss the beauty so much. Also I get brain farts up there too. And time goes so fast up there. Love your channel. ✌&❤
Time flies! Thanks!
Hi again TAYLOR
Love it there too! A beautiful pic of the icicles and the open water. That water rolls like an ocean and can have huge waves. It's that powerful water that is ever changing the rock selection. But
then oh so quiet at the end beach you found.
Thinking those two unique rocks look like russet baking potatoes and that other large piece when turned right has a raccoon face!! Always fun when the rocks speak in different ways sometimes lol. Bet you got chilled to the bone by the time you got done but still worth it right!?!
Thx for sharing as always and can hardly wait til next time. Stay healthy and hope all is going good with your new little guy...
Absolutely worth it ❤
By yourself bigger magnet
Your work is amazing, you find such beautiful rocks, agates and minerals. And your videos are so information! I was wondering, if there are that good of finds on the shore, what if you went diving out further, I wonder what's out there! Yes to cold, but summer time 100 yards out or so. Lol not me, just saying, I'm too chicken!
It was 92 here yesterday and I'm envying you in winter clothes with snow and water. Really cheers me up. Thanks, Taylor! Keep filming. 💖 P. S. I'm totally serious, no sarcasm at all. I hate it here!
Haha happy to take you along!
Found rock in Lompac. CA. On the beach. Looks the same and we found small clam shells inside the holes.
Thats awesome!
I'm so happy for you now that you have the polisher.
That has to add a whole new dimension to your picking!
I was shivering just watching you and it isn't even winter yet!
You'll have to start bringing a thermos with hot chocolate or coffee.
Cheers,
Rik Spector
It wasn't too bad! I definitely need gloves and layers while wading in the lake lol 🥶
I'm going up to the North Shore for my 40th Birthday and seeing as most things will be closed we should have a lot of time for some rock hounding!
Sounds like so much fun!
Taylor be careful when you go down those muddy snow covered cliffs! You should wear spikes. I can’t get up there to rockhound since my bicep surgery cause it is just to risky. So be careful the kiddos need ya♥️♥️♥️ Stay Safe and healthy the holiday season♥️ Thanks for the virtual rockhounding of the north shore for me♥️♥️♥️♥️
I do need spikes, should have picked some up at fleet farm when I was there the other day!
9000! Amazing and well deserved! Thanks for another great video and squirrel moment. 🐿️
Haha thanks!
Nice finds, I know you had to be cold. I remember going “up north” with my parents when my dad was deer hunting. Always so cold, loved the snow though. Have fun
It was a little cold, I need better gloves lol
Beautiful scenery and beaches in the North Shore area. Thanks for heading out in the cold! To show us great rocks. My mom 86 and I love watching the rocks you find with each video. Thank you for your videos - they are a welcome break / vacation during our busy day.
I am so happy I can bring you both along in these adventures 💕
Take/send the black ones to a lab to see if they are meteorites, some of them are worth $1k a gram ;)
Really? Thats cool
Whenever we went to a beach, Mum had this tradition where she would have to find a pebble with a hole in it or she would never return. We've got so many holey pebbles we lost count! My best beach find was a chunk of Nuumite on a tiny beach on the Isle of Sheppey UK. Weird place to find a rock like that :)
Love it ❤
I like hag stones too :)
This one was really great Taylor, I love watching your North Shore wild adventures! So beautiful up there! That big brecciated chunk of mystery rock is really cool, I cant wait to see if you cut it open!
It was a gorgeous piece!
The ever tumbling of the rocks by the waves is why get get so many well shaped rocks !
Absolutely!
love it!!
Oh Lord be careful!!!
i heard about magnetic porphyry but never seen any or any one find it! just subscribed
Awesome thanks!
I just love your videos. I find myself "saving" them for when I have time to really enjoy them! It is so cool to me to see all the stones that feel so familiar to me identified and appreciated. My Dad always used to look at the black ones with the little quartzy pockets in them because he thought they might be opal. I know you have seen them because they are all over those beaches.
So glad you enjoy them 😊 thats interesting about the possible opal, ill have to keep an eye out!
Iron n Hematite too......
Loved this, maybe some hematite 🤔 I find loads of it when I'm out magnet fishing.
Possibly!
Great video Taylor! Tough to beat that North Shore scenery. Congrats on your going over the 9k mark!
Thanks!!
All of the most recent snow has melted and it's almost 50° here in west WI, it's almost like the rockhounding gods have blessed me with a longer season 😂
Haha now if I could just get out!
What do you do with all these fantastic gemstones and rocks you find?
Sort them and either give them away or polish them!
Regarding those black rocks, given the weight of them and their magnetic personality, I would think you got yourself a couple of pieces if slag. It's commonly used for rail beds in the mid west. It's produced in huge quantities and had to go somewhere. If you find a piece with a lot of steel it, you can hammer it down.
What is porfori?
Google: porphyry
@@AgateDad 🤎
Nice finds! Those superior agates always have some killer bands love it
Yeah im actually surprised we didn't find more, but that's fine because we found a bunch of cool stuff!
