hi everyone thank u for watching :) ) if you want some other vids to check out:

I brought this game up in the comments of your Rise to Honor video.
Please do Jackie chan stunmaster!!!
0:07 dude, shaolin monks aint that bad, from what I have heard
How does just Nina make a better title, that doesn't spell reopen either.
I mean Tekken my bad.
Minime: "I didn't like this game, I don't recommend it. But I did like this game"
"Although I didn't enjoy this game, I did get a small amount of enjoyment from it, quite a bit in fact"
Viewers: *Visible confusion
This is honestly why I love most of his videos, like it sounds dumb when you think about it but you get what he means. I appreciate his ability to dig around in random forgotten and often not so good games and seem like he legitimately enjoys doing it. Nice break from the hyper cynicism of most game review/essay stuff. Just a dude playin games
Minimme is my favorite tsundere character
This game wasn't for me, but turns out, this game was made just for people like me!
I wish you can talk about The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer, the game that supposed to be the sequel to The Incredibles film before The Incredibles 2 happened.
@@HOTD108_ Well the first ten minutes of Incredibles 2 is about the underminer!
You might not know, but Rise of the Underminer spins off into its own alternate canon - It's followed by series of comic books written by acclaimed writer of e.g. Kingdom Come, Mark Waid. The comic is really good, but it ends on a cliffhanger due to cancelation of tthe series.
Mr. Boomer I don’t believe you
Larry Bundy Jr exactly
shinobody oh
I'm starting to think he's photoshopping his face into game covers
Really? I don’t see it.
Nah they just didn’t have that good graphics back then
I agree, look at his thumbnail for the Simpsons Game, something is seriously off about Homer's eyes.
Lies. I don't see it.
Stop smoking whatever it is you're smoking. These are all the original covers.
I have owned this game for 10 years and I never knew it was a Tekken spinoff until just now.
It literally says Tekken on the main menu bruh
Damn rip
Really? The title "Tekken's Nina Williams" didn't tip you off that this might have something to do with Tekken?
Liar
You're ahead of me. Ive never heard of this game til now
I am totally biased but I LOVE Death By Degrees and I'm very glad to see someone actually explore the game in depth! It is undoubtedly flawed, but the ambition and great ideas really do kick the ass or my other fighting game spin offs! :D
Ditto. You can really see all the effort that went into making this spin-off, and there's plenty of nice Tekken related Easter eggs scattered about. The graphics and cutscenes all have held up really well, too. Plus, Nina's Rogues Gallery of Villains all leave a lasting impression, especially villainess Lana Lei. Last, but not least, Nina got her iconic voice actress here, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn.
Death by Degree sounds like a Steven Segull or Jean Claude Van Damme movie.
RICKY XIONG I’m not the only one who’d acknowledged that...
Not sure if someone else has said this, but that 'take an item into a hot and then cold room' is ripped straight from the first Metal Gear Solid.
A lot of this reminds me of metal gear.
The Cypher drone, the bikini cartwheels.
Sword combat that is very similar to mgs2.
This is basically metal gear solid 2 with a female protagonist and a mediocre plot.
technically it ripped Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, MGS just reused the puzzle
Eternal Champions also had a bunch of spin-offs before Sega forgot the franchise existed for 25 years.
Matt Mcmuscle had an episode about the whole franchise and its not so eternally life . Its pretty sad how it ends .
The way I don't know what this is
Eternal Champs doesn't get enough love. I always comeback and play it... don't know how I even beat it once back on the day. Game is SNK hard.
Wait, when the hell did Sega remember that Eternal Champions existed...?
I would like to know what spin offs they had.
Interesting how this game came out shortly after Lifeline, another PS2 game with arcane controls, a mix of fighting and puzzling, and a blond action girl protagonist uncovering some kind of conspiracy with scientists and soldiers and a superweapon. Actually this mostly describes a lot of games.
Lifeline had a very weird concept. half of the mechanics works enterly by a microphone. you need to command the on screen characters lol
seriously I miss the ps2 era, that era was refreshing. developers were always making something weird yet ambitious project. nowadays everyone just makes the same shit over and over again
@@v-trigger6137 Nothing was weirder or more ambitious than 90s PC games.
Jerma introduced me to this game and its amazing
"Bark like a dog."
@@ryujijitei do a sexy pose
ive been watching your videos for some months now (almost a year), and watching this one for some reason it just downed how much i enjoy them. the content is different from most youtubers, very well made and you can just tell you enjoy making them and you dont do it just for "clout". keep up the great vids!
thankyou yo :)
That Harada tweet! I remember when he reposted one of my videos haha (thus why I'm tagged).
This game is amazing, I love every bit of it. The controls (which I don't consider bad at all) work fine, the battle system is fun and the camera (although it does cause some issues) is part of the challenge. You need to pick your fight in a good area. To me, someone who played this game a lot, the battle system is absolutely not a bore.
It does have issues, but it's an experience. Plus, this game offers amazing visuals and astethics. I highly recommend it 👌 but thats just me :)
Death by Degrees is my favorite MGS game by far
Isn't Tekken a spin-off of that bowling game?
Isn't Last of us 2 a spin off of that golf game?
@Greyson Gagliardo ikr?
@@blackknight9157 lol
Isn't Street Fighter V a spin off of that costume dress up game?
Tekken Tag Tournament had bowling :D
My dad found this for $5 when I was 11. I played through it during middle school and honestly? I’m probably one of the few people that really enjoyed it. The combat was satisfying for me, especially doing the critical hits and seeing bones shatter, good weapon variety and little ol me had a crush on Nina. Hell, this game was probably why I loved playing as Nina in Tekken 5. Looking back, I can see why people didn’t warm up to it and I wonder if I’ll have the same opinions on should I revisit it. I will say, as someone who hasn’t played MGS, I did think about DBD’s similarities to it. This game was probably trying to be a lot of things at once and I for one enjoyed it. Maybe we should have a remake of the game; get a better focus on what the gameplay should be, make changes to the story, there’s lot of potential to be had here. I for one am very willing to see it.
Tell me about it :) I played (and still do) this game so many times.
i don't get the hate/criticism for this title tbh, it's like they expected it to be AAA and perfect in everything. The game was damn fun years ago, would still love to play it again today
@KingOfTek sure absolutely
@KingOfTek i already said i find it fun
I remember seeing this game in a magazine and I was like: "Is that Nina from Tekken? Naaaah, probably not", well i was wrong hahahha
they really dropped the ball on that, shoulve just left it as "Nina"
Last time I was this early the video was still called "Ambitious Beat 'Em Up Spin Off"
haha - I'm trynna settle on something!
Feels like Namco did a survey asking Tekken players what other games do they enjoy and the top results were Resident Evil, Devil May Cry and Metal Gear Solid.
This was incredible. I have walked by that game for years in stores/rental shops and had NO IDEA it was a Tekken side story. I loved the cutscenes you showed and it sounds way more interesting than I ever thought.
I'm probably one of the few who finished this game lol. It can be fun, I enjoyed it despite the awkwardness of the control scheme. Just be prepared to wreck a Dual Shock 2 if you wanna get the most out of this game.
Also, the reason why Death By Degrees is going under the radar is because Harada does not consider this game canon to the Tekken storyline.
One of my favorite aspects of RUclips will be discovering older games I had no idea were ever even made, and it helps when the videos about them are this well made. Keep up the great work dude, I'll definitely have to keep tuning in!
"The characters are too underbaked to really leave an impression."
Lana Lei left a strong impression on me. She is basically Kitana meets Freddy Kreuger, right down to taking an insane amount of punishment before finally going down. Also, she gets plenty of character development, slowly going more and more deranged after Nina kills her boyfriend/bodyguard Bryce.
That thumbnails kinda hot ngl
I genuinely didn't even know this existed. Judging by this video, that's probably a good thing.
take it from someone who spent all of their pocket money on the game as a kid.
it's best left not known.
@@thisisarcana Yeah, I bought it for roughly $20 or less when it was only a few years old and it still felt like a waste of money.
So why does it make me want to try it??? I know I'm going to end up buying it...
Hey I'm glad I found your channel. It's fun seeing coverage of a lot of games I've never heard of that others seem to have forgotten. Keep at it!
You oughtta do a review of Urban Reign for PS2... I feel like this game is pretty damn good, but no one ever really talked about it... A hidden gem in my opinion...
has an american accent and claims to be irish. That's just 80% of the Americans I've met.
"I'm 1/4th Irish on my father's side and I love Guiness, I'm basically a citizen"
Ye are in yeir fuck Ethan.
Maybe it was Bostonian Irish 😂 go sox
I didn't believe it until I went over to New York, but yep a lot of them do claim to be Irish. Some are Irish, some are definitely not, but I don't care to be honest, it's in no way harmful. A lot of them don't have real descendants other than immigrants or people who arrived in to the country, so they like to discover their heritage. None of them are 100% American as that just doesn't exist, the only people who is a 'true american' are the indigenous people who lived there before being murdered, although 'American' would refer to the whole continent rather than to one piece of land within that continent
there really is something about this era of games that gets me feeling some sort of way. games like this and Spy Fiction come to mind where it's like, weird off-brand action games with bits and bobs from more popular franchises and weird still-trying-to-understand-3D-combat combat.
as an aside, and not to be all "PLAY THIS GAME"; Spy Fiction would be an interesting thing to look at since it's swery65's directorial debut (the Deadly Premonition guy!) and it's a great example of a "we have AAA game at home" game
You have very good audio quality! I’ve been paying more attention to it since getting into voice overs. Good work man
Nic Cage for Tekken 8, please
I prefer Robert Downey Jr. instead...
Gary Pay Than again, I compared the title to a Steven Segal film...
I would love to see a "Resident Evil" style remake
That would require effort on bamco's part tho.
Too busy making cheap anime games
Seriously?
Let's be honest this game is never going to be remade unless it's a fan project
thanks for another excellent thumbnail and vid to accompany it minimme
Always look forward to seeing an upload from you. I wasn't big into Tekken and had no idea this game existed, but I certainly miss how adventurous studios were with random or otherwise new ideas in the PS2 era.
I never really played Tekken growing up. I actually played the game for quite a while before I saw the title. The CGI in the cutscenes is actually really well done, especially for the era.
This game is pure aesthetics.
Man! I just saw your videos have Subtitles!!! Thanks! Thanks a lot, very appreciated
You pick the most interesting games of any RUclipsr I view and do a great job covering them.
I've always been into tekken but never really checked out Death by degrees though I've always wanted to play it despite some of it's rough aspects.
On a somewhat related note, the tekken devs did try another crack at a beat em up game with Urban Reign, which is sort of a beat em up fighting game hybrid and it's pretty fun.
Urban Reign is also hard as fuck. I always try to give it another shot from time to time but get frustrated after a short while. It's still pretty cool
IIRC Urban Reign was made by Soul Calibur devs, not Tekken.
@@SeriousSamson its the dark souls of tekken
Please do a review of Batman Begins (Video Game)
Very underrated game
Yez please
I thought he did already....I might be wrong
You made referenced The Longest Journey. That warms my heart.
It really deserves to be known for more than that damn puzzle.
Just looked up The Longest Journey looks cool is it worth it?
@@ThexXxXxOLOxXxXx Absolutely. It's worth it for the art and story alone - just don't be shy about using a guide if it gets too much.
Dude, you should talk about the Spin-off/tie-in of Total War: "Spartan: Total Warrior" for PS2.
As a child I played this but never got God of War, so to me now this just feels like the OG hack n slash
It was literally "We have GoW at home" but still really good
I don't know who you are. But I subscribe and I'm glad I found this channel. Keep it up!
excellent video, as always
thankyou!
Didn't even know this existed! Will keep an eye out for it, thanks for the vid :)
Dead or Alive's spinoff is literally the best idea in the universe.
"Hey, what if..."
"Yeah?"
"... Hot girls."
"... SOLD."
Dead or Alive is much better, and Ninja Gaiden was actually better.
@DaraG 1995 I seriously doubt that it lost popularity from having a crappy sexy spinoff, it was already known for being the even more sexual fighting game
DaraG 1995 Even more that DOAX3 was filled with micro-transaction...
Bro what a coincidence. I suddenly remembered this game like a week ago and I was looking for videos about the game and there wasn't much on it. There were a few walkthroughs and short gameplay videos and they were all over a decade ago. It's almost as if you sensed that I was revisiting this nostalgia trip.
Oh that's why. I watched your jet li video which was also a nostalgia trip. Makes sense now. Your jet li video was what made me remember death by degrees
Wow the boss with the katana at 10:10 looks exactly like Benicio Del Toro
Lol I was thinking the same 😂
Exactly what I was thinking
They definitely stole his likeness
Oh my God that the longest journey reference I love you forever m8
Woo! Would love to see more Fighting Game Side Games!
I didn't know there was a time when all these fighting games were getting spin offs... I kind of hope you will cover more of them.
Glad to see it!
minimme is one of my new favorites
I love your videos :3
Can't wait for you to review another Beat 'em up game named "Beat Down: Fists of Vengeance"
I've been saving up for this game for 15 years it's good to finally get a comprehensive review in 2020. Very impressed by those graphics on the PS2
I just wanted to say that with your latest videos you're bringing back a lot of memories from games I had never heard from again since I played them more than a decade ago (like this one) which gives me huge nostalgia kicks; also your analysis and overall your videos are great.
I wonder if you've ever played or at least heard of CY Girls for PS2? I enjoyed it a lot as a kid and it's definitively not well known, but apparently it got mixed receptions, I was reminded of it by this game, since they look similar.
I somehow haven't even heard of this but it looks like it has a really similar energy yeah, I'll check it out sometime and thankyou! :)
Do urban reign the good Tekken spin-off
Is it just me, or was that game grossly underrated? Like, it honestly had some of the most diverse gameplay, and amazing weapons list, and was overall a great game!
I too had The Longest Journey rubber duck flashbacks.
Playing it on PCSX2 right now. It is definitly a hidden gem. I like pretty much everything about it.
Thank you for discovering this game for me!
Great video! There was a game called The Cursed Crusade that did not get the best reviews also it was glitchy as hell but I absolutely loved it
Wow. I remember this game, but I had forgotten all about it. What a memory trip.
You should cover all the mk gba ports.
I just really want someone to talk about mortal kombat advance.
It's arguably one of the worse games ever made.
its sad because mk 4 on the gbc was my first introduction to the franchise just because it was free on an emulator
Stop skeletons from fighting made a video about mortal kombat ports
@@infernalshadows1522 Also pikasprey yellow made one on the gb ports
Yo MK Advance haunted my dreams as a kid.
I wish they still made games like this! Where’s my Sindel spin-off game?
Man now i want to play this game
I haven't played this game but I would if it got a remake because it seems to have aged badly, but it has really good concepts and ideas.
Shout out to Analogman, loyal patreon supporter and Digimon World 1 villain.
This is my 1st game in ps2, i really love this game
The fist game to use an X-ray mechanic is actually Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven which came out in 2001.
An Arkham and Ninja Gaiden mix might actually make for a great twist for this kind of combat system if it ever gets some kind of remaster/remake or spiritual successor.
I remember seeing a trailer/intro of this game in the early seasons of G4's Cinematech, but never played it until recently.
I've had this game forever and only just now people are starting to talk about it. I thought it was pretty good though. They just took MGS and leaned in the other direction on combat rather than stealth.
you know what i would play this game it looks kinda cool
A new minime video? Time for a warm cup of tea and a cig on my porch
I would say that the point here at 5:20 depends heavily on execution. Both bayonetta and specially mgr implemented parry/block systems similar to this and to a great effect, you can even go back to street fighter 3 to see a similar blocking system as well.
When MGS, Sherlock Holmes and characters from Tekken had a meetig.
Good to see that you recorded this in the native ps2 resolution. HD just looks just off on those old games.
It's because the ps2 had most often small texture. Even sub 512... When you ramp up the resolution of the rendering all those textures become more visible.
It's rare these days i see a game i haven't at least heard of....but this is one of those moments!
i actually REALLY liked vertiquest thank you very muck :) i bough it twice, once as a kid on the GC and the other last year on PS2 :)
hey i love this game so much!! despite the reviews, this game always make me giddy, the combo system hooked me plus Nina is my favourite character from Tekken
This was my go to game after school
Never did i think i’d ever see this game again
This game rocked
I remember mortal kombat shelleyan monks me and my best buddy used to play that all the time when we would hang out we loved the crap out of that game.
I was having a conversation with a friend about this game 1 hour before this video went up...
I do wish we'd see more fighting game spinoff beat 'em ups.
It took me so long to finish this game as a kid.
hi, i love you for the longest journey reference.
one of my all time favourite games but man i hate that puzzle! haha
minimme the puzzles were pretty obscure some times i get that ^^
Oh god, I remember playing this after buying a ton of second hand games for cheap, and finding this in the box.
What?! Lol. Was a big Tekken fan as a kid, that and Virtua Fighter got alot of time on PS1/PS2. Never knew of this...
I want this game.
I always trust you to dig up all forgotten gems that are worth looking for or something. You are graphically impressive!
I can't believe I guessed the right game on the social media update preview.
Looking good on that thumbnail 😏
This game looks like a good time. Might try it out sometime
The joke Patreon names are the reason I watch to the end. 10/10
"Lowbrow and corny"
And that's why it's awesome, Nina's hot as fuck so kudos to Namco for not being afraid to show her off like that.
These weird spinoffs are fascinating
7:50 i remember reaching this point in game and i got stuck here getting my ass kicked by that first boss.
I had to adjust the controls sensitivity to get past Bryce when I first started playing.
I pretty much never comment on youtube videos, but decided to come and say that I bought this last summer based on this review and actually liked it. It's pretty much like what you said so there is problems, but it was entertaining enough to play. Also got 24 the game and also liked that one and it made me interested about the show. I actually have the first season on my shelf, but never watched it.
This week I also got the Dwayne Johnson spy hunter, the first cars game and cars: maternational thanks to your reviews and will play those during the next few weeks so just keep doing what you're doing.
I liked this game back in the day
In the same year Namco also released Urban Reign which is the polar opposite of Death by Degrees. Very few cutscenes, very little exposition because they focused on the fighting and holy shit if the fighting is good.
