I’m pleased I’m not the only one who finds video complicated with all the settings and formats 😅
Thank you for this video,. I very much appreciate your effort ,.very good my friend,..I’m goin to watch all your videos ..,…
Glad it was helpful.
He, I'm not only one that uses the back of receipts for short term notes. Thanks for the vid. Greetings from Germany.
Recycling to save the planet
Great content, thanks Mike. Flying from Sidney to Auckland, hand luggage limit was 7Kg. my Camera bag was just under 10Kg. Airline staff came round all passengers waiting at departure gate and weighed all bags. I took camera body out and attached heaviest lens to it, hung it round my neck, thus reducing bag weight to under 6kg. They knew that I would be putting gear back as soon as they left, but had no issue with that. I have always found that if you are polite, and explain the need to carry the gear with you, they will be helpful.
great video when I get a lens for birding I will look into going
Well done video ...you bring things up to par when you mentioned how covid came in waves and that Russia has invaded Ukraine... etc... Makes me feel a bunch better. I guess it's because we all experienced together the world's hardships together and how we photographers had to endure these hardships together that makes your video "click" with so many of us.
Great job Sir!!👍
Thanks Mike😀 It's always so much fun listening to you and your knowledge that you share. Big Thank you so much 👍👍👍
A lot of great info, images and video. Thank you.
Excellent, look forward to more of your exploits in pursuit of beautiful images.
Thanks... 👌👍👍🙏
Greetings from Spain... 👋🙋🏻♂️
Another great vlog with tips and tricks
Brilliant, good Flight information 👍
Very interesting, Mike. I'll be looking forward to seeing your pictures from the hides.
great information and a pleasure to watch your video's as always Mike
Have a good one, Mike!
Hi Mike. Nice video clip. I basically do the same as you when travelling overseas. An acceptable hand luggage size back pack which holds my camera bags and 150-400mm lens in bubble wrap in its lens bag and accessories etc. Like you I fly with BA all the time. I also have a multi pocket waist coat although the pockets are not quite as large as yours. There is one issue however I am looking at overcoming. Not enough overhead locker space in economy mainly due to the large solid cases people bring on board that can only be put in the overhead locker one way leaving empty space. Here is the option I am trying out on a trip to Spain this November 2022. Cabin Max bag which fits under the seat in front of you!! I can pack in 2 OM cameras attached to 150-400mm and 40-150mm pro lenses plus 60mm macro and 15mm Pana lens. Also both OM TCs and spare batteries and chargers etc. Cameras and lenses wrapped in bubble wrap. There is also a pocket for laptop or iPad. If this works, which it should, then no more concerns about getting overhead locker space!!
I always try to get on early and rarely have the problem with the lockers, but always dread the experience of flying.
Excellent as usual..
Love your vlogs Mike very informative
Lookong forward to the rest of te series. The stone curlew is a weird looking bird.
Thanks Mike great info will be looking into this 👍
Great video Mike. Very envious of the Stone Curlew images.
Excellent video. The location looks great and I’m greatly looking forward to next weeks episode.
Looks like a great place to go. Looking forward to parts 2 - 5 👍
I’m looking forward for the other parts of your film! Great quality of the shots. Willem from the Netherlands.
I'm putting way too much thought into packing for my next trip. I like your concept, but I want to avoid carrying two bags. I won't be taking as much camera gear (OM-1, Pany 100-400 & 12-60). I'd love just a small (18L) bag, but I have a feeling that those around me would prefer I bring a few changes of clothes! I'm glad you covered this topic.
In the days of film we had to get maybe 200 rolls of film on the plane as hand luggage. Can't remember who we did that.
I have a roller Think tank bag for gear on the plane ! More countries opening up to visit now so hopefully have a holiday abroad soon ! Great info Mike looking forward to the rest of the series
If you shoot 10 bit 422 files (highest quality) on the GH6, they may not play directly on your laptop without first transcoding the files through editing software. If you don’t plan to grade your footage due to a high dynamic range of your subject matter, then 8 bit files look the same and will play directly on your computer.😊
Great video Mike, I haven't been abroad for some years, mainly down to ill health but I hope to change that next year and looking at close destinations from the UK such as Spain to test the waters as it were. I look forward to seeing the other videos in the series. Rgds Gary
Thanx all best
Great video Mike. I was there in early June.... fantastic but didn't get the Stone Curlew as good as that. Rollers were great.
:)
We also have very few rabbits in Denmark, and only in a few areas in the southern end of the country. I've never seen one - except, of course, the ones people have as pets. We've got lots of hares, though.
Your videos are brilliant! Love the informative relaxed presentation. Interesting comparing OM vs Sony - similar overall cost but one (Sony) has an expensive body and relatively cheap lens whereas with OM it's the other way round! Of course A1 is full frame.
Looking forward to the next installment. Enjoy your trip.
Welcome to Spain Mike. You're brave to come here un summer, this July has been the hottest on a long time. Interesting you're using gh6 too. I'm trying to figure out wich one of these( om1 or gh6) buy.
👍🏾🙏🏾
Great Video as usual Mike , the location looks fantastic, on a side note one of the reasons I bought an OM1 ( previous to that EM1ii,iii etc) , 300 f4 and 40-150 pro etc was travelling abroad . A FF kit if just not feasible any more,as a carry on . That said having bought into Olympus and now of course OM digital solutions I've found for wildlife at least my go to kit is the OM1 +300 f4 pro and not my FF kit
Hehehe told ya...😁
👍
Plenty of Bush-stone Curlews around where I live in Australia. I didn't know about the black line on adult birds though. They can be very protective when on a nest.
I remember them from the Cairns area and they were photographable from the car window.
Another great video, looking forward to the rest of the trip. What is your preferred travel tripod head?
I took the Benro S8 with me. My other proper fluid heads are too heavy.
Smashing blog Mike. Just thinking of investing in a new bag to carry on, thanks for the info. That vest, does it have a maker’s name please? 👍👍
Panoramic, but it is decades old.
I think your ordinary camera bag is some sort of OEM design. It is the same as mine, just from a different company.
Check out the Peter McKinnon backpack! You will be so happy!
Mike, such a great video. How did you find the GH6 in combination with out the 150-400 lens ? No wonder your slow motion video becomes so good 😊
Its no difference from using it with the OM-1.
BTW The slow motion footage from GH6 looks so much better than from OM-1. As good as from A1 I would say. And if you find it cumbersome to swap bodies, maybe using two lenses would be a solution? As far as I recall you own Leica 100-400 lens. It is fully compatbile wth GH6 in terms of AF and IS. Refocusing during 120p and 200-240p recordings with back focus button is invaluable. And for 4K 120p and 240p fullHD video it is more than good enough optically.
Really enjoyed that, Mike. Looking forward to the rest of this series. Out of interest, what sort of temperatures were you dealing with in Spain?
Sorry I did not make a note of it but very hot. Too hot to move midday. Just sit in the shade. Sweating in the hides in the late afternoons.
@@MikeLaneFRPS Thanks for the reply. I think I'd struggle with that. I don't cope well with extreme heat.
@@malcolmriley6897 El Taray is open in the winter when it can be very cold .
First class info Mike. Finnair 8kg hand luggage and 23kg in the hold. Any recommendation for the best time of year to book El Taray ? Looking forward to the rest of your vids . Ted. Nottm.
This is my only trip and was late June, but it would be good to try earlier in spring and mid winter.
Very interesting video Mike. What do you think of the Olympus Om 1. Is it good for birds in flight.
It is excellent. If you look through my recent YT videos I have several where I compare ti to the Sony A1
ok
