Great video and pics, Gareth. Thank you. As a born and bred Brummie, it was brilliant to see all the development work going on. Looks amazing and I can't wait to see it first hand with the family. I live in the city suburbs but various lockdown restrictions have steered us clear for 12 months. Anyway... was there a young lad with a glove puppet on his hand at 3:11 ?
Awesome Vlog as always Gareth. And good to see you out with the security magnet Gary Gough. :-) F/8 magazine issue 5 is absolutely mint. Very special Magazine. Love it. Can't wait for issue 6. Richie
I can imagine that first image as a cover image on a magazine or as a poster in a train station or university campus building and even at a bus stop, my fav of the day.
skateboarder @4:45 almost crashing into the mobile users on Corporation street. Watching this make me want to go back to work!!!! some great shots and Custard factory is always worth a visit as they change the artwork and different ones around every corner
There was a huge Pat Butcher paste up put up at The Custard Factory today. It’s fantastic. And I’ve taken a thousand photos of that Bull. Never been challenged by security once.
You should have used Gary as a distraction to get a shot of the Bull 😉 I got a shot of it on a visit a while back and no security issues, maybe my mate taking a picture of a nearby security camera attracted their attention more 😄 Birmingham on my doorstep, great city for street photography. Love the images especially the lady on the escalator, so simple but perfectly executed with the diagonal line 👍
Great video and Birmingham has certainly changed since I last visited. The missed shot for me was around the 3:46 -3:50 ish Mark and the guy with the yellow thing under his arm passing all the yellow signage, must have been a shot in there somewhere
Next time, both of you should wear a jacket with "security" on it. You may not be sent away then 😁 I think the missed shot is at 2:26, the guy sitting on the left bench, in line with the lady in the white coat sitting on the right bench.
5:55 to 6:25 top left corner there is somebody sitting on a bench. The linear aspect with the steps and walls with the person sitting amongst those details would make a cool shot
Love the reflection shots. Subtle message when guard spoke to you in front of the bull - his line was also bull. BTW, the bull reminds me of the bull in front of the New York Stock Exchange - statue by Arturo Di Modica - recently died. Did Arturo also create your Birmingham bull?
Our bull was done by a guy called Laurence Broderick who was originally an ice sculptor and so all his work has this slightly smoothed out look, inspired by melting ice. He had Di Modica's permission to make a bronze bull, after he was worried they were too similar. Di Modica said he loved the smooth look of it and requested one of the miniatures for his own.
Check out Maarten Rots. He does abstract photography. Maybe not what you would call street abstracts, though a lot of his earlier work is architectural abstracts. Lately he's been doing abstracts using projections. Cool follow, nonetheless.
I cant believe that yellow jacket stopped you from taking pictures of one of the most photographed icons in Birmingham! The Bull, normally you have to get in a queue to get a shot of it, I think the yellow jacket was out of order I have never heard of such nonsense, everybody takes a snap of Bully when in Brum! I will try and find a couple of mine and put them on Instagram (now on) I always enjoy watching people taking pictures in my home town and I liked all the pictures that you took but I would say that I am a brummie! sorry I failed to spot the picture you missed, it will be interesting to see Gary's pictures, he looked peed off did he get booked or something? Thank you...Since writing this and after some enquiries I have read that you are allowed to take pictures of the Bull and other monuments with a small camera or mobile for your own personal use only! Its the first time I have ever read these rules and I live in Birmingham and used to come here quite often before the virus, This time next week I shall probably be in prison! Take care...
I totally agree with you it's your job yt. I have been nervous to do the same RUclips is my job. Have you had any problems with police saying it's not essential work. Very inspiring video as normal thx
Can’t stop you taking a photo of the bull, it’s a tourist attraction from what I’ve been told, it may have been the fact you were filming though he didn’t mention it but come on, how many of these security guards actually have a clue? Loved the boot shot, the low POV tramline shots were definitely my favourite, style I shoot that but not really got the hill in Manchester. You should know better than to take Gary, definitely a security risk. Birmingham has been on my list of places to visit for two years but just not been able to get there as yet.
Sorry, but many photos without a deeper meaning. Those I would just throw away. Your Video "[...] with a professional! [...]" I found so much better. However, thank you for inspiring me.
lol I've taken so many photos of that bull with my x100v, weird as soon as you "look" like a photographer they start to harass you. Also you were there when no people were there, there's always tons of people there taking photos and they say nothing
You need a T shirt "I'm not with Gary" for when you around security guards.. 🤣 nice one Gareth 👍

Nice job mate, I like the boot shot. Thanks for sharing.
I just wanted to say thank you for everything you do!

I didn’t know Birmingham was so into art those falling figures were amazing! love it!
They are! looked amazing! amazing city!!
Birmingham security are such a pain, jump on you so quick! Enjoyed the video my dude.
Got my copy of F/8 mag Gareth :-) Thank you :-)
Great vid. Birmingham is one of my favourite places to visit and also photograph :-)
Hey thanks so much. Hope you like it. Appreciate the comment 😊
You are brilliant at this. A fantastic eye.

I love the boot! :) The shot you missed was at 16:58, the guy with the red bag crossing over the "Tram Only" sign!
Loved it. Thanks for all the idea!

Excellent vlog and shots Gareth, as for the missed shot I have no idea I just don’t see street shots, ha well never mind one day 😥
Well Gareth Danks.!
Are you ever going to tell us all what the Missed Shot was.? Or have you Forgotten.? LOL📸
Cheers Dirk good video
I live in Vienna and I have been thinking about tram and tramline compositions, so cheers!

thanks so much mate!
Is it a mirrorless camera?
Soo Great to See You again 😍😍😍😍
Sooo Beautiful Shots All Colours just wow 😍😍😍😍😍

I want a tenner for every time you say "Really really.." lol
I'm just learning photography any tips for street photography
MISSING SHOT: The person walking over the 'Tram only' sign? that's the one I noticed.
Rock n roll.
Haha thanks mate
Cool video Dirk
Love the first one and last one. G. Gough top bloke done a couple of shoots with him. Not street though, so no problem with security. 😂
What would your magazine cost for us folks in the states?
Hey Jim, $7 i think it is.. the website works it out for you mate :-)
10:28 that's a belter of an image, love it!
hey thanks mate.. hope to catch up with ya soon buddy

Interesting walk. Cheers
Should have told security to jog on and took the shot of the bull
Security don't half talk a lot of Bull!
Taking Gary with you, just asking for trouble. Some great pics though.
3:25 could have been a cool shot. Dark gloomy colours in the background elevated by the postman bag!

The problem is that so many people, usually security guards are paranoid in regards to photography and don’t actually know the law.
@@rogerauclair1670 I have added a bit more script to what you have read..take care..
You make cool video Dirk
I totally agree with you it's your job yt. I have been nervous to do the same RUclips is my job. Have you had any problems with police saying it's not essential work. Very inspiring video as normal thx
Be aware that if you shoot Spiderman in your picture for any commercial gain, you will get sued by Marvel Comics?
I have shot a model at the Custard Factory. Great place to shoot models. Been there twice and the graffiti is continually changing.
Love these out and about films you do Gareth, great to see Gary too.
You get stopped by security, because Mr Gough looks a very dodgy character! lol
Time around 3.40. Tram going one way, word tram and arrow going the other.
close mate.. :-)
missed shot: guy in red jacket on the left side 3:50 (i think)
Or maybe the Tram only arrow pointing the wrong way at about 3.30?

2:29 in the video - missed shot, the lady in white coat, against the red bin.
missed shot was in 2:25 the lady sitting down on the phone with white jacket
2:34 brown black brown black pattern
2:27 lady on the bench with a red backdrop
close but not quite! :-)
@@GarethDanks 😭😭
Is it the shop front display with a mans body in a grey suit with an X where his face should be? (16:58)
Sorry, but many photos without a deeper meaning. Those I would just throw away. Your Video "[...] with a professional! [...]" I found so much better. However, thank you for inspiring me.
If you did take a photograph of the bull,
what could he have done?

2:26 2:27 Lady on the bench talking on the phone
3:26 Man with bag crossing tram lines dead on the arrow "tram Only" Michael
Boom! Well done mate! 😊👏🏻
@@GarethDanks You said spot the missed shop @2.27 before this time stamp?
Coventry accent I hear?
2:24. The walking lady seems to be standing over the knee of the lady in the bench (perhaps). Otherwise I didn’t watch the missing spot.. hahaha
Ir 2:20 the guard is hiding his gun behind his back....
4.00 man about to get run over !!
4:49, the skateboarder
They're going to be busy protecting the bull from being photographed next year with hundreds of thousands coming to watch the Games.
Maarten rots is a a name for your abstract list...
amazing!! thanks for that!!
Try zone focusing at night at F1.4-2 😂
Easy cus you failed to specify what lens. I choose a 12mm f2 😂👍🏻
@@GarethDanks I was using 35mm 1.4 laid on the floor almost pitch black 😂
I have to admit I can't see it...
Make that 4.08 lol
75mm full frame equivalent? That makes no sense to me
3.49 Man in the bobble hat ?
What is the point of putting up a piece of art only to not let people take a picture of it?
Exactly!! Ridiculous!! he let a lady snap it with her phone after we left too!! i nearly went back! lol
Lockdown?
If the Street Genre Police get on to you just change your title to "Streetish" open to all sorts of interpretations.
I've shot where that bull is...thats public space??? I've never been approached there....I'd have told the jobsworth to clear off there...
It’s not public space, despite what you might think
You guys need to wear hi vis vests, security wouldn’t. bother you then!
Shame you couldn’t get a shot of the bull, what a Pratt saying it’s private. Stupid rules
Was that for real!! No pics of the bull? Who want spending money on securtiy for doing a job like that?
