'The Thing' 'Alien' and 'The Terminator' were game changers in the sci-fi genre because they all had a very distinct visceral impact that still jolts you to this day.
I’ve seen this movie at least a dozen times and I’m still not burned out on it yet. Imo, it’s definitely John Carpenter’s best film. Great cast, great cinematography and great music. Plus a very bleak ending that perfectly caps things off. In Space, no one can hear you scream. But in Antarctica, no one will come to your aid.
Watched it in an empty cinema and stayed in to watch it three times over (one could do that in the uk at the time). Day after I convinced two of my school mates to wag school to sneak in the fire exit and we also watched it three times. They were as blown away as I was. A perfect film, up there with the very best of e'm. In my opinion of course. 👊
I was 16 when this came out and one of my buddies saw it Friday night, told us all about it and took us Saturday night. We watched it twice that night and came back the next night, etc. All told we must have seen it at least a couple dozen times that summer, at drive ins and regular theaters. Still the film that I've seen the most times in a theater and in my top 5 most-watched all time. Also one of only 2 movies that ever made me nauseous, during the autopsy of the 2-headed thing. Other movie is Natural Born Killers, due to some of the editing. Not a knock on NBK at all though.
Dude, that's crazy ironic! Me and my school buddy used to cut school and sneak in through a fire exit at the Lowes Theater in New Orleans. We would sneak into all three theater rooms and watch Alien, The Thing, and Prophecy in one day. we were the only ones in the matinee times with 4 other people. We snuck in and saw Alien and the Thing like 5x throughout the week!
Yes, although it could be difficult, as the final film is cut differently than the original story and script was intended. Some events have been completely changed into the film, some scenes have been filmed to replace the missing scenes, etc. It would be interesting to see what the workprint of the film is, I think it will be different in content and plot compared to the final film. At some point, a video or video series will be released on the All Sort of Movies channel, where the story and background of the movie Thing (1982) will be broken down. It will be interesting! A similar video series is from the film Alien (1979).(ruclips.net/video/niG7RQiacS4/видео.html)
This Ultra Prime Classic release was out the same time as E.T. E.T. was sold out , I saw The Thing instead absolutely best random happening. The Thing in my universe blows E.T.away
Absolutely, I agree with your thoughts on The Thing '82 and ET is a bit too sickly sweet in most parts. Also, I believe CEOTTK is actually better than ET.
Saw this at the drive in the day it came out. Fantastic. My favorite movie. Just incredible all around. Carpenter is way ahead of the curve and missed the boat in his directing.
Won’t ever see that again in today’s day and age. The terrible prequel they made of course had to check boxes when it came out. Made absolutely no sense. It took place in the Norwegian Antarctic base.
@@troyortiz2414 seriously the updated version shows what happened at the Norwegian camp when they find the Alien creature, & if you check the original you will see the axe in the wall is exactly where Macready finds it & the hole in the roof where the Alien creature jumped out of the ice the last thing the Alien creature copied was the 1 dog they had & now it matches with the 1982 version of the film Duh, I have both films & they're both great movies.
There is a single player video game that continues the where this story left off and if you liked the movie the video game is worth the play. I actually jumped many times while playing it as it is dark and spooky. You play a character from yet another expedition that discovers the destroyed camp and go through similar scenarios that these characters do as the plot unfolds learning what happened to the camp.
We need a sequel.... A truly great sequel where The Thing escapes the Antarctic and makes it to a populated military base in the mainland. There is no escape. No hope of stopping it as The Thing multiplies across the face of the earth and absorbs every biological lifeform. A true dystopian ending of the end of mankind.
I got spooked out just watching these particular scenes. What a great movie. Think of the Mark of the beast being the Thing. The person You're looking at isn't who you think they are..
The effects were impressive at the time, but looking back on it now, you can tell they were just effects, not actually some alien that could transform its cells and organs and sprout teeth or tentacles in an instant. The 2011 prequel, of course, used a bit too much CGI, which ages even less convincingly than the old practical effects, given that CGI on a budget looks noticeably like CGI, particularly given the limitations of the technology at the time. All that said, the acting in the 1982 film was really good, imho. The characters were believable and consistent, and that sold the situation they were in, making you suspend your disbelief. Also, the dog was a great actor. You could just imagine some alien intelligence behind it, merely using the form of the dog as it plotted to take over the American camp.
The uncredited actor..., the Dog-Thing! Really was a surprise when it transformed into the "Thing"! (Remember "Alien" had just come out 3 years ago), people were subject to a whole radical change in sci-fi movie effects..., from hokey rubber monsters to the horrifying gruesomeness of these other-worldly terrors!
So, if they had left in the scene discussing escaping through the tunnel (connected to the generator room,) that would have been the means of survival if the Thing (the birthing dog) had gotten out. Or Knarls was infected! And left the generator room either before or after the explosion.
People forget maybe that this is remake - the original did have women in it! As to music, well, as always, composed by Carpenter himself. JC is also a genuine scholar of Cinema. Look at Assault on P13 and its two sequels. Closely modelled on Hawks’ Rio Bravo trilogy. Apart from Big Trouble in Little China, a catalogue of great films.
I hate to say this, but truthfully, I hope there won’t be a “Thing: Part 2”. We don’t need another classic motion picture destroyed because of the stinking Woke/DEI shit. We don’t need a worthless politically correct horror movie.

1st. this is one of the greatest horror films ever made.
Definitely top 5 of all time.
Yap 💯
The first Alien is equally as good. They ruined the end of this one with that claymation version of The Thing. 🫣
It was good gore 🫠🫠🧠
2nd, this is one of the greatest horror films ever made! Agree!
One of the few movies that is already so perfect it should not be messed with or remade. Ever.
Now follywood rames it just to make you mad
It's been REMADE 3 TIMES ... This is the 2nd version ... Check out the original 1950s version
They made a terrible prequel about 13 years back. Don’t watch it.
It WAS a remake
The actors are what made this movie engrossing. And real
Watched it 82 and still watch it till this day ❤
Love this movie…unbeatable atmosphere
Love the music , and background noise, it was perfect.
Best practical FX ever

These extra scenes should be in the movie. The more the merrier
Wow. I went to the theater twice and saw this in 82. The deleted scenes were great
Few extra scenes I havent see before. Thanks for putting this out
The scariest movie ever..
It never gets old
I have this in my list of Top 5 Movies. In no particular order: Alien, Cross of Iron, Memories of Murder, The Thing (1982), Margin Call.
It would be great if they would bring out a totally uncut version of The Thing, there seems to quite alot of unseen footage.

My absolute favourite horror film
The best SF horror movie!!
This is a cracking edit .... well done to whoever done this
The single most greatest horror movie ever made on the Earth 🌎 anything with Kurt Russell in it is an instant classic.
never never remake this great horor movie
This was a remake. I like the original better.
Superb in every aspect, the benchmark for horror sci fi 😮
I remember this movie giving me nightmares lol. The original short story was a good read also!
This Ultra Prime Classic release was out the same time as E.T. E.T. was sold out , I saw The Thing instead absolutely best random happening. The Thing in my universe blows E.T.away

The thing with The Thing is that it is not a thing, it is the Thing.
The Thing is... I mean, here's the Thing...
And that’s the thing.😂
Well put 😂
That's really got me thingking ...
Saw this at the drive in the day it came out. Fantastic. My favorite movie. Just incredible all around. Carpenter is way ahead of the curve and missed the boat in his directing.
Not one single female in this movie except the voice of the chess computer that Mcreedy dumped his scotch drink onto!
If they remade the movie today, there would be a Woman. She'd be black and probably gay. Maybe trans. Or both.
Won’t ever see that again in today’s day and age. The terrible prequel they made of course had to check boxes when it came out. Made absolutely no sense. It took place in the Norwegian Antarctic base.
There was but her pregnancy prevented her from continuing.
Awesome!

In the book Bennings is killed by the Thing on the ice, or rather the Thing pops up from under the ice and engulfs him.
Masterpiece !!!
The doggy tho some tute! 🐶🐾😚
John Carpenter made the best movies ever. Escape from ney York n such . C'mon man
Absolutely fantastic 😁
Can't believe it flop if it did well we would have gotten the sequel one of the greatest horror films ever made perfect film
Came out at the same week as ET, bad timing.
It became a cult classic on VHS (Blockbuster video rentals) just like Terminator flopped at the theater but became a hit on VHS rentals
It sold alot of VHS copies

Nightdive studios are remastering it recently and I could not be happier.
Agreed very good film!!!!
We need a sequel....

That could be a pretty dark movie!
Jokes on the thing. Climate change gets it in the end.
No we don't need a sequel...
See the comic book sequel.
There's a ps2 game sequel
Las dos son alucinantes ,los efectos especiales son fantásticos
when i saw this in the theatre, it felt as though i was watching alien all over again.
I got spooked out just watching these particular scenes. What a great movie. Think of the Mark of the beast being the Thing. The person You're looking at isn't who you think they are..
I think Bennings may have been watching The Chrles Hallahan character change, or maybe that was Blair.
Howdo you know😂😂❤😂
It Was Rough At Outpost # 31
20 jeans old i was wen i saw the movie!
Love this movie
I cant wait for the remake. It’ll be so much better.
You can improve on perfection
8:16 I think this deleted photage was suppost to be the interior shot of Mac's shack (where Mac and Nauls go right after they found Fuch's body).
The only horror its how this video its so chopped up to pieces
That scene in the kennel had to be either Blair or Norris.

Got a question.... what happened to Nauls?
Some of us are immune 😂
My favorite horror/sf

Or Knarls was infected! And left the generator room either before or after the explosion.
Wonder if that figure was Palmer?
And special effects 😮😮😮
The thing would overwhelm any lifeform it came up against, including alien.
Xenomorph vs. The thing
rare footage
That completely does not explain the blood sample part at all.
That part was not in the movie.?
Not to be remade.just a continuation from last two survivors with surprises getting right graphics and story.dhould be box office smash.
People forget maybe that this is remake - the original did have women in it! As to music, well, as always, composed by Carpenter himself. JC is also a genuine scholar of Cinema. I watched it 3 tomes loved it.🥰
Classic
Again how do you know😂😂😅😅.
Why are they using Friday the 13th music
I hate to say this, but truthfully, I hope there won’t be a “Thing: Part 2”.

THIS IS BITS AND
PIECES OF THE
FLICK.....THAT
SUCKS!!!!!!
The best part of this movie they didn’t have to use any cgi to make those amazing effects
The person responsible for the effects was 19 yrs old at the time the movie was made.
The only thing that ruined this movie was the cheaply done claymation of the Blaire monster.
Can you get this full version on blue ray or dvd?
