- Quickly cast your mind back to the start of 2023. Before Red Bull won all but one race, before Verstappen’s dominance tanked F1 viewership numbers more than any scandal ever could, before any hope of a title battle had been ripped from our hearts. I’m talking about when Aston Martin turned up to race one in Bahrain and looked like potential race winners. It was a heady three and a half months as Fernando Alonso looked within touching distance of a race win, finding regular podiums in a way that had eluded him since his time at Ferrari a decade ago. Then the upgrades came, the car declined, and it’s become the same old story for Fernando Alonso. Aston Martin for those eight short races looked like they could become a new power within Formula One but everything fell apart. 16 points in the last five races which includes a sprint race, losing out to the likes of Haas and Alpine, it’s a collapse that has been far greater than Alpines, but far less public. So what on earth has happened to Aston Martin? And why is it so embarrassing for the team? I’m George, you're watching F1 Reverse, and this is Don’t @ Me, a break from our normal coverage to give me a chance to share my opinion on what's happening in F1. Let’s check it out.

It's a shame for Alonso, great pilot but the team just dissapoints...... and Stroll....
They had so much promise but the decline since the start of 2023 has been pretty shocking
It appears that Astons so called success early last year wasnt so much baswd on their performance, it was McLaren, Merc, and Ferrari were just way behind at the time. The best scenario for AM now is wait till Honda arrives. And hopefully theyll be competitive.

Na. They had real pace ,and after half of the season their development and upgrades became bad while rest improved

Great job, George! Great commentary and I'm hopeful that Aston Martin will do justice for Fernando and get him a competitive car.
I hope that the new regs and new partnership with Honda help the team out. The problem is both Strolls...tbh. Aston Martin is a dream car for my husband too, he would sell me, our son and possibly his soul to have one, any one in British Racing green..lol, same as you George, especially the safety car, he loves that car.
They seem to do a soft bounce back in silverstone and they are getting a b spec new car in hungary and by how modular the upgrades have been, im praying this will be a serious bounce back
What happened to Aston Martin? They resigned Lance, that's what.
Right!??! How crushing to the motivation of Alonso and the team it is when another driver especially, Yuki would actually want to be there....
Anyone else would be beating Alonso. Actually Lance is beating him. Like he did in the last race in Silverstone.

Get Mattia Binotto as technical director and don’t give him the keys to the strategy office
Besides Lance not contributing a lot for the team, it could also be a Mercedes issue dumbing down on Aston Martin and/or them basically preparing for the switch to Honda.
Because once the new regulations gets approved around early-to-mid 2025, Aston Martin would want the earliest possible time to test.
A pity. A so traditional brand, good driver, deserve more.
Teams bring Upgrades while Aston Bring in Downgrades
i personally think AM are only looking at 2026, take the ain for 2 seasons, get the wind tunnel time and look to dominate the scene from 2026,

I want to like Aston Martin, but Stroll...
It's quickly becoming an "Aston Martin Racing doing Aston Martin Racing things" meme. Here's hoping Alonso has some kind of performance clause in his freshly minted contract to bail if he wants. Obviously, he's stuck at AMR until next year, at least.
Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I really believe Alonso was instructed to “back out” a bit to make Lance look good.

Lol, I thought I was the only one who thought this. Especially if you compare the previous gap of Alonso and Stroll to the current one…..something is fishy.

2023 was another season in which Alonso lost against Hamilton like other 15 seasons of his 18 racing against him.
In 21 seasons Alonso has never helped his team to develop his cars. Actually the 2023 car was developed in 2022 with Vettel. Aston martin is a team with good sponsors but bad owners, bad pilots, bad tech team, bad development team etc. It's impossible for them to succeed.

for me Daddy stroll made this on porpose cause if the car is not good his son will not be put in question i think is being done so Alonso cant win and not being in front of Stroll the hole idea of Alonso in the team i know from insiders was cause if Stroll won or match Alonso drive it would create more trust from investors and all other partners but Stroll could not follow alonso so they decided to go more slow and now changing the car to be more for Stroll liking, and you know the kid dont know nothing about that car so right now the team has a car that cant be drivven in the maximum cause is being develop for a kid that still dont know how to use the car... The kid is the problem of that team!!!

Btw it was Vettels hard work that got Alonso those podiums, since then the car got worse. So looks like Alonsos feedback is only making the car slower
