Wouldn’t take it on a big long drive? I recently drove my $700 Ed with a badly blown headgasket and only running on gas 2500ks from Vic to Qld no issue except topping the water up. I’m sure your well taken care off slightly later beast wouldn’t blink an eye mate😉🤙🏼
I drove my EF wagon from Adelaide to Brisbane towing a furniture trailer fully loaded, the head gasket blew on that trip, I didn't even know until weeks later. That old girl just kept going.
I have absolutely no issues driving early 90s cars in the last 10 years, they are simple and reliable, and most importantly quickly fixable for next to nothing. When i was 18 i got my drivers license, so i got my first car, a first series Audi 80, from 1973, it was amazingly rusted out, but i still drove it for two years, it was a great car to work on, totally simple. Then after that a late 70s Granada coupé, with an old 90HP v6, it was an amazingly comfortable and reliable car. After that i got a few other cars, but all of them were late 80s-early90s, some fuel injected, come carburated, some diesel, some petrol, but all of them simple, easy to maintain, particularly cheap to run as daily, besides the occasional thi gs thanks to their age, like a few welds on the rust spots, fixing a few oil leaks, and these sort of cheap and easy things. The sweetspot is still the early 90s though, those can be considered modern cars, efficient fuel injection, all the creature comforts you'll ever need, and all for relatively cheap and mostly reliably. If i had to choose to buy a new car for 20k or an old one for 20k but in excellent condition, i would choose the old one without any thinking. When the new cars are thrown away after 10-15 years, i'll be still happy with mine, with just sensible maintenance
I totally agree! I'm always drawn to the older cars. Like I said in the video, my BMW 135i was cool and fast, but was constantly worried that something was going to go wrong and cost me thousands to fix, and it did a couple of times, and it was only 7 years old! Anything that goes wrong with my XR6 and it won't cost much in parts and I can fix it myself.

As long as the cooling system is good you could drive this anywhere. It's well worth replacing the radiator, water pump, idler pulleys, belt tensioner, belt and hoses as preventative maintenance. Any of these could fail at any moment and you're stuck on the side of the road. Replace it all with new parts and you'll be good for another 10 years.

As an owner of a 2011 Toyota Kluger and former EB Falcon driver, I still have a soft spot for Fords, especially the SOHC Inline 6s. Sure with the Falcon you don't need to rev its tits to feel the accelerative capabilities, but there is nothing like that low end torque that pulls you effortlessly into high way speeds, especially up mountains. I thought of buying a used Territory Ghia petrol many times but running costs relating to wear and tear have always been a show stopper for me.
