      @@RetroGamerBoy The graphics of the Bitmap Bro's games were all done by Dan Malone, absolute legend. I'd like to know what he's done since the 16-bit days... if he's still active in game development, his style hasn't stood out as strongly.

    I must admit, I love the Genesis boxes. This is one area where I absolutely think the Genesis pisses on the SNES with its crappy cardboard boxes.

    • @RetroGamerBoy
      @RetroGamerBoy  2 года назад +1

      Ya I though the same, even as a kid. My SNES boxes always looked a little more tatty than my MD and Genesis ones. The choice of cardboard also makes it super expensive to collect complete in box games.

    Generals of the Yang Family was originally a Taiwanese game released at some point during the mid to late 90s no one is 100% sure of exactly when but it came out but like many Taiwanese games from that period they seem to be popular choices for releases these days.

      Not very interested in mods myself Mike.? But The 3ps interest me because it’s a sega sanctioned product , like the wireless controllers & sonic mania.

    I agree, the sound effects for your attack moves in a beat 'em up is one of the most important elements. It has to be visceral. It's one of the best aspects of all classic beat 'em ups. generals of the family is not a new game... the game is a translation of Yang Jia Jiang : Yang Warrior Family (this game is from the 90's and its taiwanese) and like Shui Hu - Feng Yun Zhuan (water margin) it rips some sprites and gameplay elements from other games AND from "water margin" (not a bad thing, just indicating this as detailed info)

    The camera movement in that second game is attached way too precisely to the player movement. A bit of a dead zone before the camera moves in response to your movements would have made it far less visually jerky and just uncomfortable. And the fact his movement seems very linear too, no smooth slow-in slow-out arcs to jumping for example, makes it worse still. It doesn't look like a great game, but I guess it's okay. Typical Amiga platform stuff imo.

    I'm totally into new games being released for older consoles. But I think that, if it's not to bring something new, with mechanics never seen before on the console, or some kind of inovation in the graphics, something that one couldn't imagine back in the day, I think it's a waste of our time to give attention to generic games being released. Pier Solar was an ideal candidate, because of the lack of Square like RPG's on Genesis. This Beat'n'Up here, totally the kind of game that don't manage to be better than even the more average 90's beat'n'ups on the Genesis, it's a totally waste of effort and time. Magic Pockets looks slightly more interesting, but still feels like a generic platformer with Amiga graphics.

    • @RetroGamerBoy
      @RetroGamerBoy  Год назад

      These games are from back in the day and have been released for the first time on the console in most territories. I do agree with games having to do something new. A game can be great without having to innovate, infact this most games. I would like to see more people release games for the console and for them to see success. The more this happens the more it encourages others. And while not all of them will be great some will.

    "Streets of Rage 2, Streets of Rage 2" rubbish
    It's Bare Knuckle... and it was Bare Knuckle 3 that had story cutscenes but of course Sega of America's staff decided to censor and alter the game into Streets of Rage and heavily censor the games while at the same time they made their in house rubbish Eternal Champions with their torture porn violence ripping us off back then.
    Play the English translation rom of Bare Knuckle III to get story.
    As far as the Generals game it's obviously a copy inspiration of Capcom's side scrolling beat em ups right down to some of the tropes... only it's made by amateurs at programming such games because although they managed some good looking graphics, the gameplay seems very meh... enemies don't scream in agonizing loss like in the Streets of Rage or Bare Knuckle games...
    That game is more like the watered down rubbish port of Double Dragon where you beat enemies and they didn't bother to replicate how the arcade version had better punching, kicking sounds and how enemies would groan or scream when beaten.
    Aka even Golden Axe shows some insanity of coding mastery for a game that was reprogrammed early in the life cycle of the Sega MegaDrive and still holds up to the Bare Knuckle series.
    Paprium belongs of the MegaDrive Genesis... a shame that the company hasn't produced or shipped more copies due to their legal issues... that they're talking about putting it on PS4 and PC? speaks volumes of how it's not getting to us who still have our old game systems and are not into piracy because we want physical release versions.
