The idea that state violence is legitimate, or exceptional, and that it isn’t even framed as violence is unthinkingly accepted by most people in stable democracies.
Tubridy is far from being alone in his hypocrisy and naive moralising. But that’s intentional. You don’t get to be the one of the nation’s biggest TV stars by questioning the power structures that empower the ruling classes.

Tubridy is a West Brit. Simple as that. Constantly trying to guilt Martin or make the Provisional IRA's military actions look worse than the British Armies. I knew Martin and as a man he was the most genuine and polite man you could ever meet. I'm proud I shook Martin's hand in Dublin when he walked down Henry Street.
While I could perhaps phrase it a little more eloquently, I'll simply say that my respect for Turbidy as an interviewer after seeing this has plummeted

That said, these talk shows always dissolve into juvenile acrobatics when the interviewers wheel out the same tired old questions about IRA membership and sleepless nights. Predictable and boring.
What a biased, judgemental and condescending interview. But it must have elevated people's perception of McGuinness as he handeled it with class.
Rte love questioning the IRA and Sinn Fein but never question what the British did and covered up.....

When u was a boy in the 50s I often went to bed with a very sore bottom for not telling the truth.
I eventually figured out the hard way as well as the sore way it does no good to lie. When truthful you can never be tripped up. So it was tonight.
I was a witness in a trial asked 20 questions on same issue I was asked after trial what was my trick for not being tripped up. Some very sore bottoms as a child was my reply.
As an American I have always been taught the exploits of European Imperial Powers conquering and imposing their rule over the indigenous (non-European) of the Americas, Asia, Africa, Near East (Holy Land & Middle East). And yet here is the Irish (a European people) enduring a similar experience and responding to imperialism. Is this the right way to view the situation?
