Former military person here. In graduate school, I exercised what we used to call “emergent leadership” (simply taking the lead, as opposed to “appointed leadership” by virtue of one’s position). I did so by organizing study groups to prepare for exams. When group members took on the book chapters or class lecture topics that they felt most comfortable with, the group functioned well and we tended to get superb grades. In fact, we consistently predicted over 90% of our exams’ questions and answers. Ha ha, flashbacks to military instructors stomping their feet during lectures when getting to test items! I guess my team-building activity was to bring the coffee!😄

I was on a MTT team in Iraq in 05-06. Mostly Marines augmented by Army National Guard (my guys) and leading 850 Iraqis. It was great! We had a strong mission and it was the wild west during that time. That was my best team.

My grandfather spent two years in the army as an 11C (Indirect Fire Infantryman) at the rank of sergeant before working in HR for something like forty years. A few times he told me that a lot of things he learned in the military apply to the business world. He first mentioned that in one of the letters he sent me when I was going through basic training.

I have experienced both being part of teams that really works together with the same ambition to reach that goal and teams that has been really disastrous.
A good team are able to achieve more than you ever could have imagined together while it only takes one teammember that arent up to the same level of commitment as the others to destroy it for the entire team.
I aint a military guy but i work as a Biomedical technologist in a hospital.

These principles are critical and this video does a good job associating them with civilian / industry worlds very well. Its true in all the successful teams I've been a part has used these principles. And teams that struggle or have failed usually have one or more "me (s)" or varving standards. I've been military, contractor, civil service, and contractor again since the mid-80s. Great video!!!!!!

This makes the idea of special force is much much more suitable for me, every day I get closer to special force, the more dangerous situation and bad become the more I train as special force unit

Excellent principles 👍 biggest problem these days is finding individuals willing & capable of living these principles, let alone composing an entire team of them…
everyone these days needs a safe-space when they get stressed.

I only semi agree with that. Not "everyone" needs a safe space. Their are those of us who relish adversity.

I wonder if this is gonna feel like a new topic, ill watch till the end.
    All my thoughts:
"Damn you have good vocabulary, and this is just the first 10 seconds
oh so these principles, let's see them
In 0:40 you really flexed your brand really well, I can notice a slight layout change.
    1. Individual Competence - Ha, we seen this before, let's see what's new.
okay, I think guiding 2 is collective training, maybe this is a different deck of add-ons.
    2. I like how the past topics add up today but I feel I've heard all of these before
In fact, "a team forged through the crucible of adversity"
But to be fair, you gave a civilian application.
Speaking of which, you can talk about many things in civilian life that doesn't have to be work/business like Romance.
    3. Tbh, I feel the cohesion-thing is based on if the individuals are of good character/to hang out with.
I feel it's unrealistic to suggest when im thinking of crappy coworkers who're just using me for my labour, I can't relate to them.
    4. Responsibility, okay something new I think, pretty good. Reminds me of "extreme ownership"
Loyalty? It has to be in the right place/time, that virtue is almost absent.
In-conclusion: We can, but should we? Don't throw your pearls on swine.
My best team honestly my friends in a milsim unit.
    Irl, people suck.
Can't wait to join the emergency services and work with a very good team."
