Nuge is a solid top 6 forward who you can expect to always get around the 20-25 goal margin, and is a good player that being said its because of having guys like McDavid and Draisaitl around.

Like Bergeron, In Nuges 3rd year as an Oiler, during an interview he was phrasing that he wanted to work more on his defense to develop as a two-way player for years to come. At that point, he was aware of the Oilers were not playoff ready. He felt that if he can improve his defense, his offense will go along with it, and surely it's paid off. You don't often get those types of 1st overalls

  • @kragger99

  • @kode-man23

He's never complained, he's never even remotely insinuated that he's unhappy with any situation that he's put in, and he took the biggest hometown discount that I've ever seen. "You need me to play 2nd line centre? You got it. You need me to play the wing? No problem. You need me to play 3rd line centre? I can do that too." How many 1stOA picks are willing to be that flexible?
Edmonton is legitimately his home, and when it came time to make the decision on how bad really wanted to stay here, he literally put his money where his mouth is. They BETTER retire his number when his career is over. 94 should already be retired, but hopefully they do the right thing and get 93 up there. Absolute gem of a player and a person.

    @blushingwillowtree6800 Год назад +27

RNH has always been my favourite player. He is usually overshadowed by McDavid and Draisailt combination. But, he has his epic moments and I have always believed that he is THE leader of this team. Connor wears the C but RNH is the one guy you can always rely on in a way that Connor/Leon are still not quite there - and that's the consistency of RNH as a two way player. It is so unusual to see him have a bad game or an off game. He is consistent consistent CONSISTENT. And you always hear about how involved he is with the team. Mentors younger players and keeps himself active in the community. Love to see it! He is their best two way player and I really think that he is heavily relied on to ensure the opposing team's top line doesn't outscore OUR top line through his great backchecking, PK role, and refuses to let the other team get the puck off him. Jay puts him out against the top line all the time and he delivers this excellent two way play that is so impressive and consistent. Really allows the other superstars to focus on scoring. You just hope the young guys are taking it in and learning from him. If we win the cup, I know McDavid would get to hold it first as Captain, but RNH better get to hold it second because he is the heart of this team in my opinion and he deserves that. (It is Connor's team but that doesn't mean he is the heart of this team, it takes more than legendary status to be the heart of something, the poster boy yes but not the heart necessarily.) I hope we keep RNH forever and retire him as an Oiler. No trades and no moving!!!

A buddy of mine played in the WHL at the same time as RNH and asked RNH to sign his own broken stick after they played against each other. He is also a massive Oilers fan so it was pretty cool to see RNH get drafted by the Oilers later on. That same buddy also played against Eberle and the Pats the year after Eberle was drafted by the Oilers and he waited in the autograph line in his (Lethbridge) Hurricanes gear after their game to get him to sign his Oilers hat. I had the opportunity to meet RNH in the offseason and he's awesome.

Edit: RNH was routinely dragged down by garbage teammates for most of his career and sacrificed offense for defense to make up for his bad linemates. People forget that once Eberle and Hall were traded RNH became the babysitter of every line he played on until this year

Then he came into the NHL, he was playing and/or thinking that was going to happen still. Over a few years he slowly started to realize that he was not necessarily going to that still.
So he trained or practiced more as he realized that his game and himself would be different and have to adapt.
And now he has become of the better 2-way forwards, and he could possibly (granted will take more time) be as good as the best in Patrice Bergeron.

Nuge has been mr. Reliable for a long time. It's nice to see him having such a great season, he's the backboneof the team for sure.
I grew up 20 minutes east of the centrium. Been there many times.

RNH is what Patty was for the Devils. An absolute SOLID player who would be productive while not having that "superstar" vibe. Then he would break out when the team was ridiculously good and succeed! Won a few Cups also. And then for that, he became an absolute legend for the team! As well as for hockey in general. I see this happening for RNH... minus the Cups... lol

He is also pretty handy with his fists. A really tough guy! Wow! He is the guy you want on the power play but equally as important, on the penalty kill. The Nuge and Hyman on the PK… yeah man!!

Nuge is the man. As an Oiler fan I respect a Calgary fan saying nice things about players who deserve it. Despite us being on opposite sides of the provincial hockey rivalry.

The thing to remember about the 2011 draft is that it wasn't a strong draft. Huberdeau, Scheifle, and Gaudreau are the only ones that have more points from that draft class.

Long time Oil fan here, and I too thought I had Nuge figured out. He has been a scoring machine this year, and he even fought? I mean, he might have before but that's the first I've seen him fight.

Been to the Centrium. Nuge is underrated. Everyone looks at his offensive numbers but he's solid on D.

Nuge has always been a guy who was actually hurt, rather than helped, by being surrounded by great players. Whether it was behind Hall and Eberle or behind McDavid and Draisaitl - Nuge was always the #3 guy. When you've got a team with that many 'top guys' he ends up on a different line as a result - and for a long time his numbers were down because he'd be expected to be two-way as he's too small to check. Happy to see his growth. Still pissed I can't say the same for Nail Yakupov.

Most underrated player in the NHL. Both sides if the puck dude is elite. One of the best playmakers in the league and has a lethal wrister. Also a big penalty killer.

Nug is just as good as anyone from om the 2011 draft. Point wise at least. The goal is to get the best player available and it's hard to say who was when you look at the names. Agreed he doesn't have last year Huberdeau season, but he will. He may not be a legend but it has to be a relief to never have to hunt for a second line center and know exactly what you're going to get.

Incredible year for the NUGE. Today, he's got more GOALS than Tavares, Matthews and Marner, as well as more points than Matthews, Tavares, AND Nylander. Are you kidding me? He is under the radar, but is a star this year, and as you say, a solid two way player who is amazing on a back check.
