I truly believe that had he known they would have done this with his character after his death, he never would've accepted the role. It could be a grown up Prince T'Challa that comes to Earth 616 since his world was destroyed by Doom or it could be an alternate variant King T'Challa. Just as Reed Richards had a variant in Doctor Strange 2. Variants don't have to look identical. I think they handled Black Panther 2 properly, they didn't write themselves in to a corner or anything.

I just don't see her wanting to turn the title over to a variant when her own brother's son (616 Black Panther) is right in front of her. I know people don't want the Child, but there are many ways to age up Toussaint. If Shuri is in Doomsday, she could lose Toussaint in a void (like Cable) or even lose him in the Quantum Realm, which plays loosely with time rules. Toussaint returns in Secret Wars after time and space has been destroyed as an adult and Shuri turns the title over to him. It's her nephew. He's family. Why wouldn't she?
