I met John Middleton over the 2022 season, my son in 2021 caught a Rhys Hoskins homerun ball!!!! I told him about what happened and he immediately told me to bring the ball down to the stadium, he had Hoskins sign it and brought to me immediately!!!! With Phillies tickets to the next ballgame!!! He was one of the nicest humans I have ever met!!!

Hey Mr John Middleton, you're a lot more generous and polite of a guy than I would have been at that moment.... I respect that you're talking to the media, in public. I hope that behind closed doors in private you're saying something else. I certainly would be.
No sir, we didn't just "get beat." We ALLOWED ourselves to get beat. We as a team don't take batting practice B4 two games. We skip batting practice.... yet we allow one (Turrner, B4 game 7) of our guys to sit for the media before games. Sorry sir, for the League Championship Series when we expect runs will come at a premium, we don't allow anyone but Mgr or GM to hold pressers -- AND everyone takes batting practice. I put a lot on Thompson, a laissez-faire leadership style. And if he didn't require batting practice, then someone, one of the 'leaders' on this team, needed to drag teammates to take it. So in the 4th inning w/ bases full and 2 outs Rojas could have delivered a soft slap liner over the head of 1st and 2nd basemen into right and brought 2 or 3 runs across, instead he's an easy out. (or think about this... Rojas with his speed and no one expecting it, he could have dropped a push-bunt toward SS in that dead zone left of the mound that would have given him a hit.... and even if he got thrown out, that run from 3rd would have crossed the plate already. Instead Phils got nothing from that opportunity. You work on that stuff in March, AND you take practice B4 LCS games). In LCS, final game, loser goes home, AND you know both team's bullpens are going to be used, the high-leverage guys coming early, the 4th inning is NOT "too soon" to take some shot. Especially when you got a guy like Marsh who knows his home CF. (And...IF you don't have heart-burn already.... ask yourself if the team would have had a better chance to make something happen in that same situation if you had.... say.... Jean Segura at bat with 3 on and 2 outs in that 4th inning?... Stott and Bohm together on the left side were more than adequate defensively.... did Phils have to commit 300 MM for a SS.... a guy who can play only one position in the field at a time and bat only once in the batting order?.... No Segura. No Z Eflin and D Robertson in the pen. The 2022 team won one more LCS games and two WS games. Was 300 MM committed to one guy too much....? Fans have heart-burn. You should have some also.
Mgmt has to make adjustments. Learn from mistakes, and don't repeat them. Dbacks Luvello did that. He made adjustments. He sat down one of his starting players when he felt that was needed. OTOH Thompson put a rookie into a high stress situation in game 3 with a 1 run lead in the opponents home park in the 7th... the lead was given up. Then, after Kimbrel gives Dbacks the win in game 3, Thompson trots out the same two guys in game 4. Luvello recognized where adjustments were needed AND he made them. Thompson?.... sorry sir, he got out-managed. (got to ask you sir, how many more MM'$ is the Phils payroll for 2023 higher than Dback's payroll....?.... do you need some antacids right about now?)
The 'better' team .... on paper.... got beat by the 'lesser' on-paper team ... because leadership of that 'lesser' team recognized the moment(s) and managed accordingly. Phillies leadership didn't. And that sums up the series boss.

also love the prognosis of what our window looks like goin forward, 5-10yrs!! we know youre committed to making them contenders and we couldnt ask for a better owner, someone to set the course and have everyone follow suit! #gophils #ringthebell #phillies
