hey great video. question, would this lens be ideal for real estate photography as well?
You can for sure. It's super sharp and produces clean images for photos as well!
You should look into HLG3.
It's impressivly strong for Real Estate video.
Fairly high dynamic range (Not on par with S-log 3, but much better than S-Cinetone), plus it provides more colors, thus easier to expose in camera and quicker to color-correct and/or grade afterwards 🙂
People really do underestimate the HLG3 format on PP10.
You are actually the second person to recommend using HLG to me so I'll have to try it out in the future
@@jeremydeihl Nice!
It is incredibly strong to be honest.
Very good for when things are quick. Those run'n'gun situations where photo and videos are done in the same house.
I am upgrading from A7III to A7s III soon but will continue to use HLG3 for my day-to-day use in houses and only use S-log3 in needy and high-end situations, where I have extra time to really get that exclusive look and exposure perfect.
So yeah, I cannot recommend HLG3 enough. I love it.
I also have the A74 and I'm considering buying the Laowa 10mm 2.8 for my 4k 60 (crop) which would bring the focal length to 15mm. Do you recommend or will I loose resolution because it's using the apsc frame? Thanks!
Great looking results you are getting. Can you provide more detail on settings, like are you overexposing by 1.7? I am using auto ISO set to overexpose at +1.7 and it seems too bright. Should I go down to +1.3? I’d love to hear what you are setting black to and anything else.
For the A7iv I always ride between 1.7-2.0 over but never till the 2.0 is blinking. As for the black point, I have adjusted that up and down over time but yet to find something I feel is perfect. I currently have mine at -1
It’s interesting you said 1.3-1.7 over exposure. Slog3 performs best at 1.7 according to Gerald Undone. I set mine there and it’s perfect.
After about a year of constant use I have actually found that when I use it for real estate that 2.0+ seems to be the best. I have noticed the camera does better with the highlight recovery than most and the grain in the shadows looks cleaner at 2.0, but not to where it starts blinking. That's just my preference though. Whatever works best for you!
whats your expose triangle? what iso levels do you use without getting grain
I’m thinking about buying the a7 iv Been watching all your videos Thanks and keep at it
Thanks! If you have any questions about the camera before you buy that I have not covered feel free to ask 😁
@@jeremydeihl thanks do you use XAVC-S HD or XAVC S-I HD?
I’m going to try 1080 60 p in full frame to see how it looks. I shoot video in 4K 60 crop mode with the tamron 11-20 f2.8. 1080 is probably good enough and I can shoot in full frame with my 14-24 f2.8.
I was shooting 1080 with my 12-24 for a long time, but just yesterday I finally found a Laowa 9mm for the APSC system and got it
When using your Gimbal + Sony A7iv, do you turn your SteadyShot stabilizer off? I keep being told the IBIS in the camera can behave a little weird when mounted on any type of stabilizer. I haven't run into this myself, but was curious about your thoughts. Your videos are INSANELY helpful btw! Thank you so much for all the work you put into them!
Just like you I have heard that, but I have never had an issue with it. I think it's an issue that becomes more apparent the faster you move the gimbal and camera together and I am always trying to go as slow as possible with it 😂
@@jeremydeihl Cool! That's what I figured haha Thank you for the quick reply!!
Hi Jeremy,
Great video.
I was wondering how you expose for bright sunlight streaming through windows when recording video.
Honestly bright light through windows is the hardest part. Sometimes you have to forsake the window view to expose the interior properly and sometimes you have to show the view so the room looks darker. It's a personal choice you have to make on site because even the most expensive cameras can't do both all the time. I know it's not a perfect answer, but unfortunately I don't think there is one 🫤
@@jeremydeihl thank you. That was helpful.
Definitely get a 9mm to try. Great pair with the A74.
It's the next lens I'm going to buy, and my first APSC lens for sure
Can you show the quality difference of Sony 12-25 f4 vs Laowa 12mm f2.8?
i shoot real estate on this camera and im so frustrated by the amount of orange and grain im tempted to shoot on auto like a noob... will try pp8 and over exposing thanks for the video
I have had a lot of the same issues when trying to use this camera for real estate videos. I get lots of flack from people when I say I grab the GH5s over the A7iv every time for real estate videos, but the harsh reality is the quality of video it produces is WAYYY better
you dont feel the 12 in 4k 60 is no super wide?
do you keep image stabilisation on?
How do you fix overblown windows sith the a7iv,
Hey, do you do any live training events, or interested in entertaining me for a day? I am about 3 hours from Raleigh!
Every once in a while I do talks and I used to host events at my studio a few times a year until I moved and shut it down to stop spending marketing hours and money on portrait work when I really wanted more real estate. That being said I am always down to hang out and talk shop! You can email or DM me if you ever want to try and set something up :)
Just did my first RE projects earlier this week on my a74 using Slog3. Also use a Laowa zeroD 15m f2!
Would love to see how you correct and grade your footage + do you shoot in the XAVC S or the S-I format? I’m trying to play around with how much more information I have to work with using the S-I and if it’s worth the extra burden on needing more SD cards haha
I have a few videos I made about 8 months ago that go over the basics of my grading process for video, but it uses V-log from the GH5s instead of Sony footage.
