“Find the opportunities to make the world a better place”. Well said Jason. Those are words to truly reflect on.
Something I was taught more times that I can count and have to keep reminding myself, and that I think is very pertinent when it comes to doing tasks alone (especially with higher risks) is: Think twice, do it once.
Many times have I just gone into a job even one I have done before and made an error because I did not remember those wise words: Think twice, do it once.
"Oh I've done this a million times... and there goes a body part!" Complacency is one of the biggest dangers in a dangerous job.
I ran demo construction crews , rule #1 attack all the heavy physical work 1st of the day , step down at mid shift, light work and clean up toward end of each day. Next day attack the heavy physical again rinse and repeat, also day 1 ok, day 2 getting tired , day 3 everyone's hurting ( make it lighter day ) day 4 getting strength back , day 5 stronger, after that all days are similar good flat performance.
Packing extra chainsaw chains is always a good idea. Years ago we always went out with 4 chains in addition to the ones on our saws. Dad usually did the sharpening with a fairly precise chainsaw grinder that He had. This kept us busy during the cutting season during the colder months when there were few bugs, ticks, and the snakes. While on vacation from college or on weekends, I would cut mostly dead or trash wood and tops which was usually good firewood while others cut logs. The management of the woods kept it healthy, and it is a wonderful place to this day.
From clearing this "road" to the knife, everything you do is done well. Contemplating life is why working alone is so good for your soul. However, don't leave out the Lord. Remember, our entire life on earth, as well as our Life Eternal, is dependant on that relationship.
He quoted Jesus by saying we should try to do something for someone else. Putting others before yourself.
Thanks. Agreed.
I was a Park Ranger in Maryland for 26 years, retired in 1996 from there at age 50, then became a Deputy Sheriff for 16 years. But I missed the outside work in the woods and the smell of the corn growing in the summer evenings. I like the looks of the knife, been a knife freak since a young kid. Next video provide a link, interested.
Any chainsaw work by yourself , you should at minimum be wearing chaps and have 2 tourniquets on your belt , all the time! Hard hat is a great idea , can save you from a kickback , I've been doing tree work for years ... good video, just want you to take some precautions for yourself, don't want you to get hurt from something preventable! Cheers 🍻 🤙👍
Good call.
I do the same thing I clear and maintain trails not because i have to but because I want to and that is a huge difference. and its very rewarding.
I'm one that like doing jobs that have a visual result. Nothing better that seeing the fruits of your labours, Great Clip Jason. I'm always keen to see slightly off topic clips. 😁
Thanks for watching!!
What a wonderful spirit you are.
Same work that I do and most of the time it’s just me and God.I can appreciate your views on how we make this a better world because as Christians that is exactly what God calls us to do.
Yes, do it as unto the LORD, and He shall reward thee!
How did you get started doing youtube? I've been thinking about doing it and made 1 video but haven't done anymore yet. I'm new to the preparedness lifestyle but I want to talk about that and most importantly teach about being a good strong Christian man. Thanks for your time and keep up the good work
I’m trying to do the same thing just be yourself and don’t mimic what everyone else does I think that’s a good start but I’m no big time dude
@@Done293 I'm not sure if I need to get a decent camera just to make it look a little better cause it was ok with my phone but not really great.
@@southernpreparedness1691 yeah you can look at my channel all done with a 12 except for some drone stuff
@@Done293 ok thanks. So are you doing Patreon or something similar and if so when did you start it
Mountain laurel, love the knife looks perfect for edc, keep your tools sharp & your feet fleet
Knife shape is too easy to slip hand to blade.
The quick flo spouts from tractor supply I have found are well worth the money when I buy a new tanks. Saves a ton of frustration from using the new tanks
Great content friend!! :)
I love that knife! I used to think you needed a big knife for survival, and for splitting wood, they are nice. But I’ve learned a small knife can do if you will do. And a knife like that will do a surprising number of things very well.
ah and the knife (and sheath) looks awsome! Good job.
Looks like pawpaw to me, but I'm up in southern Ohio
That’s a great looking blade I’d be interested in one for sure
My own personal mantra has been to leave a place/job/situation a bit better than I found it. Doesn't always work, but I keep trying. The knife is cute and handy, but I'd prefer at least a minimal choil or swell for some safety (so you don't need that tourniquet in your pocket).
@@SurvivalDispatch I carry mine in an ankle holster-style trauma kit.
Always look up for widow makers when cutting and wear proper PPE
I agree on the gas cans.
Wicked lil knife 🔪
Same..I despise those new gas cans.
Yeah man I'm waiting on the release of the knife. Them are pawpaws ain't they? Good show.
Rhododendron. Thanks for watching.
I swing an ace like a champ
Good video
Nothing I love more
Been cutting for decades
The riskiest times I've had are when someone else distracts or gets in my way
Knife is excellent
Once you started talking about the old vs. new gas can nozzles, I knew I’d like your video(s) 😂. Can’t stand them!!!!
Hahahaha! Can’t stand them!
The knife looks great! I'm a big fan of that size for a fixed blade. I currently EDC an Esee Izula, which is similar in size. I do prefer screwed-on handle scales for ease of maintenance or replacement, but the pins are probably smoother for ergonomics. I love the sheath, though!
I don't have a lot of experience with pukko style knives, but I don't like the lack anything to keep my fingers off of the knife. Maybe add a bit of a groove on top and bottom as well.
Finally someone else with plb. To me your not very remote at all if you can reach your site by driving a tractor but if you ran that saw into your leg your locator beacon might be the thing that saves you. Just saying I have a much different definition of remote . For us personal locator beacons are a must
Something zen about that kind of work
The knife looks great however it could use a small guard to protect your hand from the blade. That would be my only suggestion. I really enjoy your channel keep up the good work and God bless
Thanks! Be sure to subscribe to On Three as well!
That would be a great neck knife for sure. Yes sir
I hate the new cans
Nice knife!
For trees of that size I would use a 20v sawzall with a pruning blade. It is a tiny bit slower but you don’t have the on-site maintenance to deal with so in the end is the same speed and it’s not possible to cut your leg open.
Much larger than 8” logs and a chainsaw really starts making sense.
I believe that plant you have been cutting is mountain laurel.
Sharpening my chainsaw on my tailgate is my "break" logging LOL
Being safe is very important.
Yeah, I agree. Crap gas containers.
I'm clearing about an acre, I don't have any heavy equipment. I just have a chainsaw and a pole saw :(
Especially as I fatigue, I actively check where I've placed my feet to make double-sure that I'm not about to do something stupid. Whatever model of Stihl you're interested in, pay the extra money for the "pro" model. The lighter weight is worth the money if you have lots of work to do. My suggestion for the knife is to add a little something to prevent the finger from sliding over the blade.
For logs under 8” like this I really like a 20v sawzall with a pruning blade. It is just as fast and way safer.
I've still have tons of clean up to do since damaging ice storm we had. The mud isn't helping. I forgot my first aid kit last time so, I'm going to start carrying my tourniquet in my pocket or waist pack. Something that won't get in the way. I like the knife. I'd consider making the holes standard distance apart so you can use other clips like a tek-lock. It would just make it more versatile and molle compatible.
The sheath is tek-lock compatible. Thanks!
Your knife is sweet. L👀KS very durable for a neck knife. Love the job you did on the trail too. Would love to purchase that knife… are they for sale?
👌. Refuge Medical, good choice.
Rhodedendron. Probably Catawba. What model Kubota is that? I have one almost identical.
Hey Jason, are u in southeast Virginia? Location? Just curious, your terrain looks like where I live.
I'm watching on a phone and I'm no horticulturist anyway but adding your area and the look of the creek and rocks, it looks like rhododendron.
Nailed it!
There's a lot to be said for a good working machete. I prefer the tramontina 18" myself.
I want that knife!
My small hands would appreciate a knife like that !
@@SurvivalDispatch I am looking forward to it !!!
Hey. Nice Vid. Where is Alan?
Hey mate what's that water bottle with the filter you used? I've been looking for something like that :)
Great video as well; I'm planning to make my own homestead and feed myself. The dating scene for a 30y/o, unvaxxed, straight white male is abysmal to say the least >_
Grayl Water Bottle. They’re fantastic
@@fohtechie69 Thank you!
I really enjoy your channel. Where can you purchase the knife in this video
Soon it will be available from Bear Forest Knives.
We called that a laurel bush where I grew up. Not sure what it actually is, could be a rhododendron, laurel, magnolia? They are everywhere in the NC mountains.
Rhododendron is correct!
nice spot
mnt Laurel rhoadadendrum
I’ll buy the knife. Just let me know when it’s available.
Jason, since you started talking about kydex sheaths, I followed your and Alan's recommendation on a survival kukuri. I ordered the exact same kukuri from Knives By Hand and pretty much followed the bluing process and other touches. However, while practicing putting the knife in the sheath, I split the sheath at the back. In the video on that knife Alan mentioned you could get a kydex sheath made. I think I would rather have a kydex sheath as that would be lighter and also allow me to carry it horizontally OR vertically. Could you recommend a place or someone for me to contact to have one made?
I know that Jason recommends Matt Tate and I believe that he mentioned someone else in the past.
@@chris1638 Awesome. Thanks much.
@@ktroyn you’re welcome.
Yes, see if Matt with the American Survival Co. can help you out. Thanks for watching!!
@@ONThree Thanks Jason.
Laurel
My only comment is, I want that knife, where and when can I buy it? Lol
Is that rhododendron you're hacking through?
I wish someone would tell me what that plant was. It’s everywhere in the mountains. I’ve just called it a magnolia bush because that’s what the leaves look like
Rhododendron. Similar to mountain laurel but with bigger leaves.
@@ONThree thank you sir
Hell yes. The old school spouts work better.
Insightful! I like the knife. Please send me one. :)
Work alone allot key 1 slow down
Rhododendron bro
Florida Anise???
They big bushes you've been hacking out of the way its mountain laurel.
Very hardy
native rhododendron

One of the worst legacies that lawyers and democrats have left us is terrible gas can spouts!!

My love…You say you can be selfish with your time and money. Not very true. You dedicate your time to others and your money. You don’t make nearly as much income as those that surround you but you’re far more generous. You’re not very flawed either. You’re not Jesus but you are pretty amazing.
