Then on to meaning and other branches of it. How many can do it even now? Both knowledge of Itihasa and purana, and professional knowledge in many fields were widespread until the Islamic invasions in the North. If the Hindus were not educated, how do you reckon India could remain the most prosperous economy in all recorded history until the Seventeenth Century, according to British economic historian Angus Maddison?

Dravida means enveloped by Drava or water, a term used for the South Eastern Coast going back to the Mahabharata. People of Kerala Karnataka and Andhra do not consider themselves "Dravidian". Brahmans were those who took up learning spiritual practices and rituals as a life vocation. In Buddhist lore the Brahmin was typically described as "a poor learned Brahmin". Buddhist texts as well as Buddhist rulers accorded high respect to Brahmins for their contributions to society. So don't divide Hindus by colonial devices. That era has passed.
