How to FIX Windows 11 - Muffled Mic "Audio Enhancement" Curse

- To fix the muffled mic "Audio Enhancement" curse in Windows 11, you can simply uncheck the audio enhancement setting. Here's how to do it:
Open the Settings app.
Click on System.
Click on Sound.
Under Input, select your microphone and click on Device properties.
Click on the Advanced tab.
Under Signal enhancements, uncheck the box next to Enable audio enhancements.
Click Apply and then OK.
This should fix the muffled mic issue.
Warning: The Microsoft Gremlins may reset your audio without any intervention from you! Keep checking it by tapping the mic before recording. If no levels appear, you know the audio enhancement curse has kicked in again! Just reset mine AGAIN!
I just dealt with that. Came back after a few months and suddenly my audio sucked. Thanks twice now, absolute lifesaver.

OH MY GOD!!!! I bought years ago a 16 dollar mic because i was and am still broke but when i heard the sound quality i was disencouraged to make content to post online because of sound, thinking that it was low quality (which it still is but without the muffling is way better) and just thought that broke people couldn't afford to be decent content creator. this video was a life saver, i totally didn't know that and you just made my day 1000x better since i now know i didn't and i won't have to wast my money in the future. Thank you! This has fixed the problem for me. I had to use Linux to record all my videos because they audio recording always appeared clearer there, now I can switch back to Windows. Thanks again!

Thank goodness! My headset was working fine until this morning when my computer decided to do an update. Suddenly, everything through Teams was muffled. Three different headsets and nothing worked right. Hopefully, the settings stick. I don't need professional quality sound or recording, but the nurses at my hospital need to hear me when they call the pharmacy for help.

@@pmpexam So far, they seem to need to be set by headset. The one I used yesterday is fine, but a different one was not. It had to be set up on its own.
It is completely over the top annoying. I sometimes miss the old WIN 3.11 for Workgroups days. If you built a batch file in Dos, the dumb thing worked unless your install was corrupted. Granted we used it at home from my freshman year of HS in 93 until we installed NT on my machine in college to keep the other students out of my personal machine. lol
Every WIN update recently seems to follow Apple and assume we are all doofuses who can't follow simple instructions. And they hide the settings 5 levels deep.

I did everything and thought it was fixed and then it was not. My problem is with OBS. This is how I realized there was something wrong, recording through OBS. It keeps coming back to that quality even after all these steps. Usually turning on the option to monitor the audio through OBS forces it to become bad again. I just dont know what else to do.
Oh dear! I am so sorry to hear that. How frustrating! Perhaps try not monitoring through OBS and see what happens? I noticed another issue with this Windows version is a revert to Mono quality instead of staying on Stereo. So many issues. I wish I could assist further. Don't give up!

That should not stop the correction process. The real issue is the enhancement selection variable. If you can turn that off, you are golden.

The absence of the "Enable audio enhancements" box in your microphone's advanced settings on Windows 11 can have several reasons. Here are some things to check and try:
1. Missing Tab:
Check if the "Enhancements" tab itself is missing. Not all audio devices come with built-in enhancements.
Look for the tab under both "Speakers" and "Microphone" properties.
If the tab is missing altogether, your audio device likely doesn't support specific enhancements.
2. Driver Issue:
Outdated or faulty audio drivers can cause missing features.
Go to Device Manager, expand Sound, video and game controllers, right-click your audio device, choose Update driver, and search automatically.
Alternatively, download and install the latest drivers from your device manufacturer's website.
3. Conflicting Software:
Some third-party audio software might disable built-in enhancements.
Temporarily disable any non-essential audio software and check if the box appears.
I hope you find a fix for this issue.

Unfortunately this is beyond the scope of my knowledge.
On my option it would not let me click the selection - although it displayed what you mentioned should be changed it was greyed out and I couldn't change it 😞

hello, how do I fix when I'm using my mic on calls the audio quality drops significantly, im currently using a headphone with mic (Logitech Pro X) it's wired.

You mean sound clean? You can mute it when not in use. Please explain further.
