I believe the steering wheel is made by McLaren's Electronics division. And I do believe McLaren make the steering wheel for most of the teams.

NASCAR is more about the dash especially now with it being digital and switches on the boards for the dash and startup

I held the Merc wheel for a few seconds in 2014 on my tour in the pits, it screams quality! Quite incredible how well-made and strong the parts in a F1 car are. Cool video! :)

Thanks for the video it is very interesting. It has less button than I thought with all the things they have to manage during the race. It seems the left switch manages all ERS systems at once (MGU-K, MGU-H modes and maybe the engine brake).
Didn't expect the "Mark" button to check the telemetry data after the session, great idea.

When drivers explain things they remind me of workers at target don't have clue what your talking about and figure out a product themselves as they show you it lol
yeah, this was shit.
Well there are differences between the drivers. But yeah, Lewis sounds like beyond stupid.
What you people don't realize is some parts of the steering wheel are team's secrets, so he goes around it saying something it does but not what exactly it can do. Also, they're not used to call the functions full name, for example, he may call the engine mode selector EMC(like aviation MCP, EADI, EHSI, FMC, FMS), after years of calling it like that he may forget what it means.
ctdesing I think this makes the most sense. He obviously knows exactly what each button does but he’s careful not to give away team secrets.
I don't think Lewis sounded stupid. He went along telling you what each button does. How can you possibly liken it to someone working for minimum wage in a shitty shop; Lewis knows every inch of that steering wheel better than you'll ever know anything in your life, because his life depends upon it. It's like how a soldier knows every inch of his gun.

250 grams actually makes a difference guys. G forces 6 times of that amount increase the cars adds a kilo of relative weight on the car.

It's for the pit lane they press the button so the car doesn't go over the pitlane speed limit.

all the pitspeed button does is prevent the engine from going over a certain RPM so it wont go faster than say 45mph, as in with it in you can hammer the pedal down all day long but the max speed you're gonna do it 45mph

It's a shame they don't get a licence and do one for most f1 steering wheels or interchangeable manufacturers decals etc.on a separate note,as a Hamilton and f1 fan I'm happy he's at the top and made a fantastic recovery from what was a 2nd place start to the season. Just shows even with problems he didn't let it affect him in the long run. Many thanks and great video.

As a guy who works in the industrial connector business, what Series of connector plug do you use on the back there where it connects to the steering column? D38999 or possibly Mil-26482? I see it's got one of the red plastic dust caps.

@@bigboimihai6559 Greetings from the future. In 2019, drivers+seat will have to meet a minimum combined weight of 80kg to keep all the drivers the same "weight". 200g of weight saving reminds me of some of the hardcore backpackers I know; they will literally cut the handle off their toothbrush to save weight.
You should get a race engineer to do one of these steering wheel videos as well.

For future steering wheel videos just use a camera over the drivers shoulder so he can hold it normally. A front on camera for something like this is ridiculous.
