I build my own kits, too. Suggestions: roll up a grocery store plastic produce bag to use as a water container; they will hold more than a liter. You can fold and roll them tight enough to secure with a slit drinking straw. Fill it from a stream, add a water tablet, and carry it inside one of your socks for added strength. Shorten your straw of antibiotic gel, you won't need that much. Use the room gained to fill another short straw with Vaseline, and use that to rub into your cotton ball for an improved tinder. Don't use Steri-Strips (or the antibacterial gel) on a puncture wound; only use them on small gashes/cuts. Using them on punctures traps bacteria inside and promotes infection instead of wound drainage. And maintain your tetanus inoculations.
Yeah, the old 35-mm film canisters were GREAT for holding damned near anything! More than 20 years ago, closer to 50, they sold those rolls of 35-mm film in little round metal (steel) canisters. Back then, they weren't rust proof, and they had "pry-off" lids that had sharp edges and you could really cut the crap out of yourself, but they were handy for small parts and tiny anythings!
@@jasonland455 ahahah sorry I speak manly french so sorry if its not a english word I thought it was! Film are the thing you put in those old picture camera before it was electronic. +INDIAN PREPPER 24*7 hey ,if anyone else wants to learn about survival try Zamartar Survival Remedy (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my brother in law got cool success with it.
Cool kit. I always put a button battery (2016, 2032, etc.) with electric tape around it in mine. I slide an LED in one side for storage. To use, pull out LED, and slide one leg on either side of battery. Boom! Flashlight!
Great kit well done keep the whistle on the outside clip if you need to make a quick signal or scare off an animal you don’t have to go digging around for your whistle
I do - they were always quality intros but once seen I prefer getting straight to your insights,, recommendations and advice which I always value! Thanks again!
A small kit is arguably better, because you are more likely to have it with you. A bigger kit is something you take on a bigger trip, but situations happen when you least expect it.
Awesome video (as usual) Ben! I have several of these bottles laying around and have made a couple of them into match safes. Never occurred to me to do a mini survival kit. Excellent idea! Great choice of contents also! Thanks!!
I like this idea. I'm always over helping my mom at her place about half a mile from home, and I will break a fingernail, get a splinter, or cut myself and I often have to go home to get a magnifying glass, good pair of tweezers and a splinter remover or neosporin. I kinda keep a lot of that stuff in my man-bag, but I frequently don't take it with me that short a distance.
Actually working on something similar to this myself. I found a small waterproof capsule with carabiner top at Dollar Tree (who actually have lots of cheap survival stuff). It came with earbuds, but I just got it for the case. Your kit really needs a micro light of some kind. Yes, fire gives light, but you can't waste a match every time you need to light up a particular area or signal for help. A few needles and sewing items wouldn't be a bad idea either. And a ferrocerium rod to compliment the storm matches.
If you have it, wrap a couple of ranger bands over the Kevlar cord. They do a couple of things: 1) Protects the cord. 2) Adds friction to the outside of the case which helps to prevent it falling out of a pocket. 3) Ranger bands make a very good flame extender. Very helpful if your dealing with marginal or wet tinder.
Absolutely loved pill bottle video, sanitize gel in straw as Neosporin, saniwipe. How creative, very inspiring. Awesome job bud. Really going to play with this concept. Thank you so much ✌️
Great ideas! I would love to make one for myself too. I like to wear a Tilley summer wide brim hat that has a pocket inside. I like to use heavy duty small pouch and make small kits to place in the hat. I have a mini chem light, handcuffs key, band aides , safety pins, compass, and a mini ferro rod in the pouch. I live in Farmington Michigan , so the areas that you probably hike and fish, I am there too. Great video
MAN I love your videos. It's so nice to see some videos that aren't just knife batoning videos for a change of pace. I always learn a lot from you Ben. :-) Thanks!!!
Nice! Think for that particular bottle, one Birthday Candle should fit. Gives you a little light for the night while you're trying to get a Fire going. Hope this helps.
Good little kit. Something I never thought of is the emergency numbers. Great Idea. But one thing on that is, at the top or bottom of the strip write out "I.C.E. = In Case of Emergency" as not everyone knows what that stands for. I didn't until I watched this! 😂😂😂 I can see how you could have one each for medical, food, shelter, etc. A couple of things I thought of. 1st, add a couple more safety pins to the bottle, smaller ones. It seems like you never really need just one! Ha ha. The 2nd is probably a matter of personal preference but I never use that kind of split shot. I use removable ones. More times than naught, if you're in an area that has fish in it, you're likely to find additional mono on the ground. Lastly, take another segment of staw like you did for the Neoprene but this time fill it up with petroleum jelly. That has a lot of uses. 1st and foremost, spread some onto your cotton & you'll be set for starting a fire. Lastly, if I'm going out anywhere that these could used, I'm packing mg Leatherman which makes this kit even that more useful.
nice. I use the small bottles for my matches. Since my girl is pregnant, I keep her prenatal vitamins bottles, much bigger and they hold a ton of stuff. I also keep a smaller bottle full of cotton balls impregnated with Vaseline and since the other has the UCO Stormproof matches, those two bottles alone make for a decent fire kit. they also work great for sewing and repair kits, don't have the worry about the needles in those. These bottles are great in conjunction with an Altoids tin.
Great kit. I would add a little bit of money like a $20 bill i and maybe a quarter in this kit and in the kid's kit that you made in another video. Thanks for posting.
I would use a smaller hook size, #8 or 6, a coil pack of 6 or 8 lb test leader and a few small split shot. It is more probable to catch small fish than large in fresh water and this size hook and leader will hold a large fish should one bite - if you don't try to horse it in. The hooks and shot can be carried in the leader package which is usually 2 plastic disks on a center spindle. Carry extra hooks! Use the pill bottle for more important gear such as matches or meds
Nice kit. The little square floss containers are great to put a couple of snells into, maybe a couple of split-shot wrapped in scotch tape. Floss is very strong. I have them in all my psk’s.
I would glue thr compass on top of the lid. You can use the fishing line as dental floss or pick your teeth with the fidh hooks or safety pin so the flossers are unnecesary. A plastic dog poo bag takes up the space of a soda straw and has many uses including water collection and purification. The water tablets can be individually wrapped in tin foil to save space. I would include a few baby aspirin, too. Instead of that giant knife, I would put a couple of exacto blades (you can use fishing line or filament to tie it to a stick to make a handle) and use the extra space to add a tube of alcohol or acetone (important to getting a fire started in damp conditions) and I would glue the striker for the matches onto the bottom or side of the bottle and include a coil of fine floral wire.
only thing is the razor could be traded for a swiss army knife. giving you more items with one knife. and depending on the model you coose to go with it could be added with the razor
Pretty cool 😎. I’d probably trade the whistle toothpicks and mirror for some medicine but different strokes. I need to get those individual water purification tabs. Great video
Great idea... you can improve it in space by gluing the compass on the top of cap and wrapping the hooks on outside under line, and my want add a small zip lock bag to drink water and same aluminum foil on inside. I did one similar to yours without the mirror and clip. My bottle that I used was a bet longer I added the electrical tape on the side upper of bottle. Great tip.
I'm not big on the tiny kits...myself I like kits made from water bottles...can fit all the essentials..don't have to skimp so much...a pill bottle...I might make a fishing kit...or a small fire kit...but cool little kit none the less..
Randy Yeager I like use them for my UCO Stormproof matches. Cheaper to buy them in a box then it is in the waterproof container and it'll fit just as many if not more. I really like using the large bottles my girl gets from the pharmacy for her prenatal vitamins. They will hold way more and I have never yet broke one in my pack, they seem to be pretty resilient.
An Altoids tin can also come in handy when wanting to use the tin in emergency situations (e.g., making char cloth/rope; boiling a bit of water; as a candle holder w/ windscreen; and other modified uses). The variety of useful techniques are only limited by knowledge, skills, and one's imagination.
Great idea! For a container you can use a bag from the produce section of most grocery stores. The .youtube channel MeZilch gave me the idea. You can actually roll them up an put them in a larger straw. You can then use the bag and straw to create a drinking device. I would be interested in knowing how you affixed the string around the bottle so it did not roll off.
Old Fart I have seen those bags too on his channel. I’ve gotten lots of ideas there. To wrap the cordage you double the one end up making a loop at one end (top) then starting from the bottom with the other end wrap around the bottle and the loop until you get back up top. Then put the tag end in the loop and pull from the piece sticking out at the bottom. It secures the tag end and the other end is wrapped.
Great stuff. I don't like to use pill bottles as they don't seal well enough. I tested it by putting in weights and put them in a pot of water and it didn't seal using the lid both ways. Thanks, dude.
Duct tape wrapped around bottle, then wrap some fishing line, then some cordage secured with ranger bands. Plastic bag for water, rolls up tight, takes hardly any space
Wrap bottle in just twine tinder and cordage, a little tape can ga around it as well. Compressed tinder quicks instead of cotton ball. Magnifying lens for splinters and fire.
MI Prepper I have enough tinder with the cotton ball and matches. I didn’t want to wrap anything thicker to make it larger than what it is. Also wouldn’t put tinder quicks on a wound. Not sure I could start a fire with a very small fresnel lens. I’ve tried it with the credit card sized ones and it’s difficult. A convex piece of glass works much better. To each their own though, that’s the fun of it. Thanks for the comment.
Great! One exception- a cotton ball's fibers would stick into a wound. Not a good thing. some non stick gauze would be better, which also could be used for other things.🙂

have you thought about using the tubes that soluble vitamin tablets come in yes they're long but it's a lot more space for things like a sail needle with thread, and the pop off caps on these things have a little pocket full of a dessicated to help keep contents dry personally I use them to store 'civilian' heating blocks in (the disc shaped ones) I'm wondering if the Coglans tablets would fit.
It's good but a bigger pill bottle would be better yet like a giant pill bottle like once you get like 90 day refills in because you might be able to hold more stuff in it which means you have to potential for a slightly bigger survival kit that's just a thought off the top of my head other than that it looks good and sound.

Canadian Prepper it’s going in the bug out roll as a backup.
Canadian Prepper, nice tiny kit.
Kevlar line is one of the best cords I have, very strong and versatile
Great! One exception- a cotton ball's fibers would stick into a wound. Not a good thing. some non stick gauze would be better, which also could be used for other things.🙂
It's a good idea to have a Back Up kit if you lose or misplace your main kit.
Thanks for your ideas
Very nice. Thanks for sharing.
I'd add a small magnifying glass like you can get in an eyeglass repair kit, and a couple eyeglass screws. Also, a couple bandaids
Oh, and a pair of tweezers
the nelsporn cream also can be used to start fires
Small ferro rod and a few Imodium… stomach issues will take toy out. Stress, dietary changes, questionable water…. Imodium for the win!
the petroleum base in the neosporin could also amp up the fire starter qualities of the cotton ball.
I like it. I'm looking at kit to carry on my PFD for river trips so water proof is a requirement
Oxxnarr D'flame it’s highly water resistant but not proof.

Urrrrr.....No credit card multi tool?.
Always see that junk in ' survival kit.'
LOL, nope.
Ok have fun not living 🤗
Only good use for them had to be the bottle opener when you don't have a bottle opener
Have one in my wallet, the blade, bottle opener and screwdriver have come in handy, rest is useless
That is really cool 😎
How you been good kit I am making. Some myself
I'd throw in a jolly rancher 😋
