    A few ideas :
*Small glass vials (from food flavoring or perfume samples) make for excellent mini-containers. Unlike the straws, they can be opened and closed repeatedly.
*Vitamins may help wound healing, but in an emergency the most immediate hazard is infection - replace them with alcohol, betadine and antibiotic powder (in glass vials).
*Mini lighters are small enough to fit the pill bottle and aren't ruined when wet like matches. One will last for hundreds of uses.
*Needles and fishing hooks are useful in a wild survival context, but smaller ones than those used in the video. Take 2-3 of each, they don't take much space and are easy to lose or break.
*Use a bright color tape - cammo on the bottle means you'll lose it easily in the bush.
*You can skip the lead weights - just use a small pebble attached to the line with tape (I've done that, less than ideal but workable).
*CD mirror is ok, but aluminum foil will pack tighter and can be shaped either flat for signals or curved for other uses.
*Maybe some tweezers - small and useful (for example - extracting splinters to prevent infections).
*LED lights - there are some very small used on keychains. Good for signals and finding you way in the dark.

Good idea. I love compact survival kits. A few suggestions from my own experience:
Instead of sealing the open end, leave it about a 1/2" longer. After filling the tube, fold over the end, then crimp the end in the middle (vertically) and fold again. Cut a 1/4" long section of another straw and slip it over the crimped end. That will seal it but allow you to open it without cutting (in case you have no blade), and allow you to reseal it afterward.
Magnetize the needle by rubbing it across a magnet. Then you can use it as an improvised compass by slipping it through a small leaf and floating it on a small puddle. The needle will point North (verify it with a real compass to make sure which end is which - and mark it with a Sharpie). Instead of thread, pre-thread the needle (especially handy if you have poor vision or it is dark) with dental floss. It's stronger, and can be used to bind a shelter, small tools, arrow fletching, etc. (And you can sew with it)
A plain condom works as a water bag, but so do supermarket produce bags. A bag can be folded and rolled up tightly and stored inside a slit straw section. A square foot of aluminum foil is handy as a reflective signal mirror, solar concentrator (for fire-starting), and can be formed into a cup for water, among other things.
Also, dab a bit of Vaseline into the cotton wadding, it will catch a spark better.

    • @ginamoore66
      @ginamoore66 2 года назад +2

I never thought of condoms to carry water. That is genius!!!!! Also I like tampons and Vaseline in an emergency kit and should fit in a pill bottle. The ones with plastic applicators can be makeshift life straws and using some of the fill with Vaseline is a good firestarter.

@@ginamoore66 I'd be leery of using a tampon as a filter, since it won't filter out many organisms. But in a life-threatening situation, take your chances, You might get a cure after rescue.

Put those pills in a straw too so they wont get contaminated by the slip shot lead sinkers or draw moisture. You can get straws that are 1/2" across, allowing much more room for items. I would cut some of the straws to the length of the bottle. Pack efficiently. Even fishing kits can be out in straws. Smaller Bic lighters would fit perfect in this kit. Two or three methods of making fire is better than one. You could make several of these kits and keep some in vehicles, backpacks, etc. Plus, by making them yourself you you can tailor them to your own personal needs.

'Altoid tin' survival kits are probably better. I've managed to get a knife, flit and steel, can opener, an aluminum carabiner, safety pins, 50 yds of thread, ten feet of fishing line, needles, bandaids, and alcohol wipes in it without over stuffing it and it's kept closed in my backpack with four ranger bands I made myself. They're sturdier and hold more things without taking more room than a wallet so the fit into pockets better than pill bottles.

to the people going on about the lead weights and the pill,
the amount of lead absorbed by the pills would be negligible. you could probably swallow the lead weights themselves and pass them before any true lead poisoning set in.
remember, people used to ingest lead/mercury/etc. all the time medicinally. most paint was lead based, and many metals used to make pretty much everything we needed contained lead as well. it usually took years for exposure to THAT much lead to produce symptoms and negative effects.
lead poisoning takes place over a long period of exposure. those two pills he put in are not going to be enough to do any damage.
besides, if you are resorting to using this little pill bottle kit, odds are you are in a pretty bad situation.
a one time minuscule dose of lead is going to be the absolute least of your worries.

7)Sugru (seems stupid but it could be useful sometimes)
8)baking soda (in the straw container - to mix with water, acts an antacid)
    9) coke can and tealight (you can make a light reflector which will make light go only where you need it)
    10) rubber bands (they got lots of uses, and you can make a slingshot too, maybe it could save your life throwing led throwies in the air at night someone can notice of you)

+theredscourge cyanoacrylate was invented in world war 2 for use in making gun sights but it was realized it could be used to hold wounds together in battlefield situations, apparently first done in Vietnam in 1966. Just saying. I'd also wrap the bottle in two condoms, as you did for the cell phone awhile ago in one of your condom hack pack videos. This waterproofs the container, as well as provides a firestarter, cordage, tournacate, and makeshift bandaid. (*If you put cotton above the wound*)

    • @_FrankieV
      @_FrankieV 9 лет назад +2

+LucasWildFire There really is no "simple" way of doing anything in a survival situation, it all depends on what you have available to you. If you're ever put into a position where you've put something you need into one of those straw capsules, you'll find a way to open it seeing as it's only plastic separating you from it's contents. If anything, make sure to carry a nail clipper since they're small, convenient and you could easily snip off the end of the straw.

Mini survival kits are cool, unfortunately to much miss information on the web of what a survival item is. Shelter, fire, water, rescue signaling, cutting tool. That should be the focus. Can’t do shelter in that small of kit, but can do fire. Your signal mirror won’t signal far enough to reach anyone farther than can hear you. (Use Real Mirror!) For water, collection use a crock pot liner or grocery store produce bag with aquamira tabs to purify water. Finally you need as big of a pocket knife as will fit in your mini kit. In reality razor blade type cutting tools are worthless, they are to flimsy and dull way to fast. A small pen knife with real carbon steel blade is best. (Pen knife by Case) The kit will be more than a dollar but will actually do something to help survive.

Haven't combed through the comments so hopefully my comments/suggestions are not redundant. 1) I would use strike anywhere matches and if you need them short just cut the handle. 2) Do not use duct tape on the razor blade. It gums up over time and will leave tape/adhesive residue on the blade when peeled off resulting in a gummy blade that will not cut nearly as well if there is no residue. Use electrical tape. Great suggestions in the video!

I save pill bottles like crazy, I even have other people save bottles for me!!
I have many pill bottles in different locations stuffed with the following: 1 face mask, 2 latex gloves, 1 glow stick, 1 match book, and 2 ear plugs...
I even managed to melt two bottles together to make 1 super long pill bottle!
Here is what I put inside the extra long bottles: 1 laser pointer, 1 flare, and 1glow stick.
Thanks for the video, very informative ;-)

    things to add:
tiny tubes of super glue for wounds, or building a shelter
nails, also for building a shelter
oil held by a couple straw tubes, this can be used to make a fire
a craft stick wrapped with a lot of guaze
also, you can put a pen, paper, and a plastic bag in there. this is so if your by the ocean, you can write a letter to send help, put it in the bottle, and throw it in the sea. someone would eventually get the bottle and look inside. you can say that your on an island, by alot of trees, or what your surrondings look like. you can also put in a compass at the bottom of the bottle, so you can find your way and say in the letter if your north, south, etc. and the plastic bag is so that you can empty the bottle and put all your stuff in there so you can put the letter in the bottle and hope somone finds it. i hope this helps

And a small ferro rod which can be struck with the side of the safety razor .
