  • Here's how I cook a whole frozen chicken in my Instant Pot!
    Ingredients:
    1 Whole Chicken with giblets removed (mine was 5lbs)
    1-2 T. of cooking oil
    1-2 t. salt
    1/2 t. black pepper
    1/2 t. onion powder
    1/2 t. garlic powder
    1/4 t. smoked paprika
    1/2 t. dried thyme
    3 garlic cloves (optional)
    1 lemon, sliced (optional)
    Cook on Manual setting for 10 minutes per pound (mine was 5lbs so I cooked it for 50 minutes). Let NPR for at least 10 minutes. Optionally, broil 3-4 minutes per side on a foil lined pan to crisp up the skin. Strain and save broth from the pot for soup or other recipes! Enjoy!

    what a relief to have my questions answered in a concise manner without a history of the chicken and what you might use it for and endless adjustments of the camera etc. Your presentation was great - thank you so much! Also nice that you didn't have music to distract from your voice.

Unfortunately, I just put 2 whole chickens in the freezer yesterday! What a great idea. AND I have been searching for how to pressure cook the whole chicken when frozen. Nice work! I like the added broiler step at the end. Crisping up the skin makes a huge difference in both appearance and taste. I would strain that broth, skim off most of the fat and put it in a deep saute pan to make a sauce for the chicken. I'd probably add tarragon, white wine and thicken it slightly with a corn starch slurry then whisk in a few pats of cold butter right at the end. Serve the sauce on the side for an upscale touch with little effort.

    Looks really simple, thanks! One tip that might be useful during broiling-- cut the bottom of the chicken and flatten it out on the sheet. Then you could get even crisping with no flips. I believe this process is called "spatchcocking" when it's done prior to cooking. Search on that term for tips on best way to do it.

    This is my new favorite kitchen tool! Day 1 I was going to pressure cook a meat ruclips.net/user/postUgkxG-7WiT7ocumjytOpHDFt632PL0pxXRAg and potato stew, decided I wouldn't eat it that night so I went with a slow cook so I could go to bed and put it away in the morning. I love that versatility! The sauté feature works great and adds tons of extra flavor to dishes, and I can easily sizzle meats in the bottom then deglaze for some restaurant worthy flavors.Big bonus - you can cook a whole frozen chicken in about 2 hours. Amazing! I've seen a couple videos, haven't tried it yet, but I will soon!

      How do you do this? How long do they take?

    • @Mytitus2journey
      @Mytitus2journey Год назад +1

      @@jbob1548 individual frozen chicken breasts take 25 minutes. If it was a block of thighs, legs, or breasts maybe 35 minutes and for the whole chicken I cook them for one hour. I do them all on high pressure meat setting. You need to add 1 cup of liquid (water/stock) and any seasoning you like. Don’t count ketchup/Barbecue sauce or something like that as your only liquid because it will burn and cause you IP to turn off.
      If you live at a high altitude I would add a little bit longer to my cooking time.

    When I saw the size of your chicken in the pot, I though you were in trouble. lol If you have a big cut of meat, a trick to make sure it fits is to put it in the liner in your freezer until it's formed. Then it's good to go. My freezer's pretty full (and IP used alot), so I bought a plastic container the sane size as the liner and use that. Thanks for sharing your video!

And just an idea, I have watched your videos and have noticed that you use the combo of salt, pepper, granulated onion and garlic, have you considered mixing these together at a ratio of your liking and then keep in a tight sealing container. And then you can add the other spices and herbs. Thought this might save you some time!

    • @SpiritBear12
      @SpiritBear12 5 лет назад

      Even if you froze the chicken in it's original bag, all you'd have to do to get the bag off the frozen chicken is submerge the chicken in it's bag is a large pot of almost hot water. It'll defrost the chicken and bag just enough to loosen the bag from the chicken and get it off when you open it.

    Can the temperature be set manually? I thought I saw you setting it, but wasn't sure. Thanks for sharing and I'll use your link when I buy it!

      +Wild Swan Thanks for using my link! 😊 The instant pot has 3 heat settings... Normal, Less and More. It also has a High and Low pressure option. If you search online you can find out what temperature each of those are for the different programs. The majority of the time I just use the "Manual" setting on high pressure.

      Followed your recipe last night with chicken we raised in our back yard. Adding the fresh garlic seems like a little thing but those aromatics just make it amazing. Thank you for taking the time and investing the effort into making this video.

    Does the cooking time differ if it's a defrosted chicken vs frozen? Thank you. I can't wait to make this. :)

    • @IndigoNili
      @IndigoNili  7 лет назад +30

      A good rule of thumb is 10 minutes per pound for frozen and 6-8 minutes per pound defrosted. :)

    Great video but where was the taste test :( Was it tender or just a bit tough, going from frozen to cooked in such a short time. Looked very tasty.

    Great video.
    I wish you cut the chicken in half so I see how the inside look. Hence I can tell more about how inside us cooked.

      I've done boneless skinless turkey breast before. I cooked it way down and shredded it for tacos. Worked great!

    Didn't know it could be done!!! Thankyou for a NICE VIDEO!!! I have a burning question maybe you can help! lets say..its done..Done!! what if you take the chicken out and it truly needs...another 10 or even 15? minutes..Ive been here several times..Is there a way to get the process going again to give it that extra time to have the meat ( any meat for example)cook Properly!!! thanks!! Hate to say it but when in doubt I OVER calculate.....its time and practice I have the xl I love it! Thanks

    • @IndigoNili
      @IndigoNili  6 лет назад +1

      Yeah, with meat you can totally put it back in for a few more minutes if it's not done. Since the pot is already hot it comes back up to pressure really quickly. 🙂

    I've had my InstantPot for about 3 years now but I've only used it a few times. Always have trouble figuring out how to set it. Every video/you tube thing that I watch never has exactly the same one I have so the buttons are different. I notice you used the MANUAL button and I don't have that. I have a 12 lb,. frozen chicken that fit in mine and I did all spices, etc. Since my chicken's so big and according to your math, I think I set it for 2 hours on pressure cook. (10 mins per pound, 12 pounds=120 mins) I'm hoping I don't have an explosion or burnt chicken on my hands!!! Thanks for your simple video!

    How do you make the chicken stock that you saved in the pot after you took it out?
