As one who rarely eats melons I went and cut my finger today while trying to slice in half a honeydew. Blood was all over my kitchen floor. I never realised how dangerous slicing open a melon can be if one isn't concentrating properly as I could quite easily have lost my finger. Step one: Be careful, and concentrate!
No need to wash a melon with soap!! Just scrub it with cold water, why do you want soap on your food !! Especially if you are a beginner and didn’t fully get all the soap off !! That can make you really sick !
Melissa Wear - Ya, I have a spray bottle that I filled with a mixture of water and vinegar which I spray on my fruits and veggies while rinsing them under cold water since vinegar sanitizes but is safe to drink and I also have a designated veggie scrubber as well.

Melon seeds can be dried & eaten, or, leave them outside for birds (if you live in an area that has cardinals, those birds really love melon seeds).

Next buy a cut glove. then put this on the hand which holds the fruit still. Eventually it will save you from cutting your thumb and other fingers.
