When I was 18, I was a bartender in a drag club in Toledo, Ohio (Anyone remember Caesar's Showbar - Joe Wick?). It was the absolute best time of my life. Thanks for this clip. It was by far my favorite scene/number from the series. The Cher impersonator is EPIC.
I’m originally from Toledo and not long after graduation, my best friend decided he wanted to be a drag queen. So I went to Caesar’s to watch him perform and support him during his brief turn as a drag queen, and I always had a great time there. It was a fun bar - lots of energy - and those of us who were not yet 21 could still get in with a stamp on our hands that said “18” which no waiter or bartender ever asked to see when ordering drinks! This was way back in the 80s when Joe owned it and was involved with the main attraction, Denise Michaels. After my friend stopped doing drag it was almost twenty years before I went there again. I’m a dance teacher and got a client who wanted to learn how to dance for better drag shows. Eventually he invited my wife and I to watch him perform and we did. The bar looked totally different - it seemed smaller - maybe it wasn’t even the same location anymore?? I can’t remember for sure. But what I do remember was that there was nothing familiar about Caesar’s anymore. It didn’t seem to have that larger-than-life energy that the bar had back when we used to be packed in like sardines on the tiered, lit dance floor with stairs leading up to it. Did they at some point move to a smaller location by the early 2000’s?
I got soooo teary eye’d during this scene!! 💄💋👑👠🌊 I must have rewound it about 5 or 6 times! I finished the series last night! And I couldn’t be more in LOVE! What an AMAZING show! What a breath a fresh air after just in my opinion, some really bunk ass new shows I was super amped about and could barely make it through the second episodes. And now I’m super sad that I have to probably wait around until next CHRISTMAS for season 2 of AJ and THE QUEEN! Hopefully not, but still. I HIGHLY recommend AJ and THE QUEEN if anyone hasent seen it! ❤️🤍🖤✨👠💅🏼💄💋
